Haha, what was it originally, 6 frames of improvement that turned into 47?
Yeah, pretty much. That sort of invalidates some people's opinions about it being an "unnoticeable improvement" and their choice to vote "meh" or "no." But oh well, guess that can't be changed. ;P
I'd suggest making a new submission, but that will mean even more frames will be shaved off afterwards and it still won't be published. :P
Drrr.. that is the point! ;) I mean seriously.. I called it the last time an M64 run popped up. Whenever someone submits an improvement, never even attempt to publish for a month as someone will ALWAYS find an improvement soon after. Yet to fail ^^ Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

Of course it's just waiting for the right moment. I also uploaded a improved version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXnmLv1GPAQ
Would it have wasted too many frames to have grabbed the extra Bombs form the Darknuts in Level 3 to bring you to 8, then try to collect them later? I keep seeing the potential for you to have 2 extra bombs at the end of Level 1 if you had gotten them... Having Link flash the camera when he gets the ladder... Perv! Otherwise, looking good! I had to vote Meh. While you can visibly see the execution is bang on for a TAS, it's incredibly slow and plodding... quite honestly bored me after 5 minutes. Just not my cup of tea to be honest. Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

I honestly wished this run had been left until we could figure a way to do the other levels. There's enough of us to be able to work together as a strong, intelligent and creative community to have possibly made it possible. But... it's been submitted, so I am hoping the others can be hexed in or something or other, or this can be redone at a later point with the rest and obsolete. I am going to abstain for now to mull it over further.. but I am leaning towards a yes. Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

Sadly no matter what happens with this run, this site is going to sink for a while because of this thread alone. I'm not saying it won't rise again.. but no matter the decision, people are just going to bugger off due to not agreeing with whatever choice is made. I hope one day the fighting comes down to the frame improvement of a run and not the language of it. Although I am sure it will truly get nasty when enough frames in SM64 are saved that people are going to royally bitch when it shows that 1 frame seperates it from 5mins and sub 5mins. ^^; Darn these big franchise runs :) Mr. Kelly R. Wow... what can I say. A shop keeper who does squats constantly.. the boy on boy loving in the village.. Link eats a damn chicken as he hops backwards!! [That sure as hell looks like pixelated blood!], proves how annoying Navi is as a Dodongo even eats her [Illusion?] and dies after spitting her out, constantly abuses naked females by throwing them [who sadly seems to enjoy the abuse], does a BnE to stalk a lonely Princess and gets tossed out after committing suicide... cons a dimwitted shop keeper and then thinks he's King Arthur. And that's the first 35 minutes!!! LOVING IT! After watching it a definite yes vote! Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

Definitely a yes vote, more so because these camera angles TOTALLY ROCK! But mainly because it's made of awesome. I just wish you could BLJ up the pillars via some sort of camera angle manipulation so you didn't have to jump kick back and forth so much. If that was possible there would be maybe a second saved? This was ridiculously boring to me. There was absolutely nothing that screamed watch me. THIS is why there's an actual game called Sonic The Hedgehog 3 to TAS and not this poor excuse for a time trial. Virutally nothing to really watch and when there was, it was overly dull and repetitive and not in a good manner. I've seen far too many other racing titles that have been tas'd that have provided far more entertainment then this. I'm sorry, but this was a poor choice for a TAS, imho, and I had to vote No. Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

Gave this a Meh. I mean I liked it a lot and it was well run, but I feel this has so much more potential to offer. A 100% Run that nails all the gaps as well? Now that'd be absolutely epic! As a result, it just hits the Meh.. and barely... but only because I know 100% would be way better. Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

I am a bit concerned by the fact that the author openly admits there's possibly a lot of improvements due to only finding out about stuff at the end of the run. That alone makes a Yes vote falter hard. It looks great, but knowing there's serious potential left over makes it hard to just let that pass. I know how hard it is to make a TAS and how frustrating it is to find out at the end of something big, but in this case, it seems like serious potential through out and not like "We did an SM64 120 star run and 5 minutes before we found a 3 second improvement in the first 2 stars." where that'd be a hell of a lot more acceptable. I also understand the excitement to get this out when it's fresh and anticipated, but knowing there's a lot to go... it sets a dangerous precedent on such a short run. If it was over an hour that's a bit of a better tasting pill to swallow.. but still. I know this isn't the most popular thought considering how much positive there is on this run, and it was done very well and very entertaining.. but in this current moment.. that's not enough. [And this is also not like Super Metroid where there's countless new things being found out after the fact..] Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

Suggested Screenshots

I have a couple of suggested screenshots that I either though looked good or acted as a statement about the run. I don't think they are usable because of the compressions standards, so I'll include the frame numbers as well. They are, in order: 38170, 40177, 61252, 70378, 72469, 75409.
Definitely this last one. Something's just hilarious about goosestepping space pirates.
I vote Yes for 75409 :) Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

Had to vote No. I mean the video is quicker then the ingame timer, the pacing was boring, the cut scenes were yawn inducing and too many, the lack of killing bored me, not enough Meryl naked, not the PS3HD version, the dead scenes were painful to watch, and the fact someone insisted they were going to do a HD encode, but we have to wait 6 days and they're not an official encoder. And of course if you took everything up to the last 1% of the comments seriously, then what's wrong with you :) Definite Yes vote.. although.. lack of a cardboard box scene with a puppy peeing on it was sad. :( Just love the bit after the credits though. Definitely got me to watch the Let's Play of the other MG titles. Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

That was an incredible run of an incredibly touchy as hell game! Considering how shite movement and positioning can be, you blazed through it and made it a solid piece of entertainment! Definitely a Yes vote... even if the music grates ones nerves, which is not your fault. Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

This argument has gone on for way too long. They're seriously never going to start at this rate. Each of the four TASers have stated their opinions in private chat, and the ruling is 3-1 in favour of not using the Chuck glitch at all (the 1 was for going all-out). The decision should be up to the TASers themselves to figure out, and while I like the idea of asking for the community's opinion, the arguments are never going to stop because there's always going to be some filibuster. Christ.
The whole reason to ask is to guage whether if they exploit the shit out of it or not, will people vote Yes or No due to such, hence their trying to guage first before going gung-ho and having tons of people whining and bitching. They seem to have an idea of what they want to go for and the public has spoken, so I think they will start soon enough if not already. Can't blame them asking.. it is a very controversial point nd they wish to ensure their work is with best chance of being accepted. Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

Mister - You should be ashamed of yourself! This run is making me salivate so badly I flooded my house! This is the epitomy of awesome and releasing such a teaser is just so... so... NAUGHTY! In other words, I am loving it and can't wait for the submission! And maybe somewhere down the road... a 100%? I mean this is a hack that screams quality everywhere and I'd love to see more! Thank you for your harfd work on this! Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

Wait and see my ass... I waited and all I saw was.. well I'm sorry.. but crap. This was an absolutely abysmal choice of titles with virtually nothing that stood out as even remotely entertaining, let alone TAS worthy. It's so simplistic looking and too long. I'm sorry... this is a no vote. Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

3 months + to judge a movie? I have to think this one is now a record, unless someone can cite one that took a lot longer. Must be one helluva decision to make and I sure don't envy the judge(s). Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

Here is my wip for the SDW 120-exit run. In this video I compared my run with Pangas wip Part 1 Part 2 The most frames were saved with 3 new breaks, like 40 frames were saved with cornerclips or lag manipulation.

Just as Sonikkustar did in the NES topic for this game, I'd like to point people's attention to this nicovideo TAS which beats the J version of the game in an amazing 13:04.
Recently, improved run (12:59.67) was uploaded on Nicovideo. http://nicoplayer.blog60.fc2.com/?id=sm16785567 First, I thought this author has submitted the run.XD
Now THAT'S what I'd love to vote YES on. But I'm not quite sure about the password warp technique.
I can agree, minus the password warp technique. I mean using the allotted amount of deaths to your advantage in a game such as this is one thing... it's clever usage that saves time... password use? Just makes a TAS look like crap... and barely superhuman at all. Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

I am quite impressed. I figured this would be a boring ass run and totally was wrong on it. It's a pity they never decided to try ideas like this with some of the ports of SMB to spruce things up a bit. It was short, well executed and entertaining. Yes vote here! Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

Voted Meh. It's a really lousy game, the graphics are nothing to write home about and the music is crap... and it's boring as heck. What KEPT it from being a No and just a Meh, is that when I did research, I can see how optimized this was, and that is no easy feat. The technical raises it up just enough to be a Meh.. though barely at that. Mr. Kelly R. Flewin
