Sorry but I have to bring up a point from the other thread.

I'm afraid I have to disagree. You shouldn't submit a purposely suboptimal run. Or the publisher should flag it as "contains speed/entertainment tradeoffs" which would be ridiculous. Hex in that other frame, please.

Yes, but Silent_Slayers already pointed that out, and that frame of improvement was already implemented. By looking at the submission text, updated by adelikat, it would seem that the frames of improvement are 2 instead of 1, so it is possible that the latest version of the 0-stars run is even better than the aforementioned video.

I disagree and I quote moozooh:

I'm somehow sure the SM64 team would have submitted the new version anyway if this one had been published by the time of the recent discovery.
If this submission was already published, I'm sure they would have submitted a new one, and you'd have to add another link in the obsoletion chain. Causing even more forum drama and more "lol no vote cuz I'm bored". I vote this submission gets on hold and we wait for the new improved m64 file. (and I can't help but laugh thinking at the eventual 120 stars submission which will suffer from these "hey I saved one frame" posts even more)

Voting no because:
  1. Does not beat the complete game (I might vote yes for a complete cup, at least, but not one track)
  2. Uses the E version instead of the U version
  3. Does not know that F-Zero X can go up to 3000 km/h (NTSC) or 2500 km/h (PAL)

Maybe it is possible to hex edit the MKV file? I'm not sure how the h264 codec works, but it might be possible to encode only from the modified frame and paste the new encode over the old one, maybe at the expense of one or two more "P" frames... I know I hex edited mp3 files in the past for various reasons...

MisterEpic, I am looking forward to your SD encode without camhack, because I really want to watch this TAS in a proper way (no camhacks and no HD). I will abstain from voting until then. edit thanks to MisterEpic's SD encode below I can now vote on this. Yes vote.

I 100% agree with this, I don't like these runs made with two players in Grand Prix mode with items and bonus. It should be one player only, in Time Attack mode, with no bonus items. Sadly I also agree that a TAS of these competition levels doesn't have a high entertainment value per se (even if I am a Sonic fan, there is a certain point where you have to draw the line and say no).

I watched this today for the first time (I somehow missed it when it was submitted) and I say it's epic. Have a belated yes vote. ... though I was secretly hoping to see a Sonic somewhere

It appears that archive.org didn't derive this movie yet as of now. So yes there is no file to stream yet. Which is weird, archive.org usually is fast with derived files. Keep an eye on the details page.

When I upload videos to Youtube, I either use uncompressed WAV or a ridiculously high bitrate (-b 500) OGG. The rule is, since Youtube will transcode anyway, you should upload things as uncompressed as you realistically can with your upload speed.

For what it's worth, I have to agree. Those blended youtube videos are incredibly annoying to me. Everything is so confusing, I prefer to lose some action and get sharper images.

I just watched this. Some of the glitches used were amazing, this is one of the movies which would easily get a big yes vote from me... but unfortunately I saw most of the WIPs of the 100% run, and I am extremely disappointed to see you submitted an any% and not a 100% run. I'm therefore going to vote meh because I wasn't entirely satisfied by what I saw. There is way more potential in Wario Land.

I would argue in favor of "low-glitch" over "glitchless" because there are plenty of minor glitches that can be utilized, like the Knuckles/switch confusion in Angel Island.
I have to disagree, I'd rather get rid of all the glitches (and not just some of them, which would be arbitrary) if we're taking this route. The switch confusion isn't a "minor" glitch as it definitely requires TAS techniques to be performed on purpose, and therefore one could argue that it shouldn't be used. The camera abuse in vertical wrapping levels, instead, can be done in real time and would be a much better candidate if you wanted to include "some" glitches in a "low glitch" run. I don't think the debate would come to unanimity, so "no glitches at all" is probably to be recommended.

I think it was good to have Tech and Entertainment split. I think it was bad to have 100 degrees of precision for each of them. Many people (especially newcomers) have no idea of the difference between a 5.9 and a 6.1 Solution hybrid system. You vote yes/no/meh on Tech and Entertainment separately. Case in point the 0-stars SM64 movie. Do you think this movie is Technically well done? --> Yes (can't deny that) Do you think this movie is Entertaining? --> I'd vote "Hell Yes" if I could, while other people can now legitimately vote "No" in this field if they want to In this way, having a "Tech = No" vote for the 0-stars SM64 movie would easily label it as bullshit. In the end, obsoletions might end up having votes like yes/meh or yes/no and still be published, while new publications would require a yes/yes...

What concerns me, however, is how this change would affect the usability of the front page. If someone has the custom of glancing the front page of the website for a quick review of what's new, would this split make that harder or more inconvenient? Or could this split be designed so that it actually makes it easier to get an idea of what types of new publications there have been recently? Any ideas/suggestions what the front page would look like after the split?
Cookie-based (or db-based, since many people have accounts here) front page preference? Like, "what would you like to see? [x] obsoletion [x] new publication" Back to the original question, while I don't see the big need behind this idea, I have nothing against it, since it might help classify things in a better way. I am somehow between meh and yes.

Does not use vertical screen wrapping
This one isn't clear, as certain levels such as Ice Cap 1 or Marble Garden 1 are required to use vertical wrapping because of the way they're designed. For example, look at Ice Cap 1: It appears obvious that the screen wraps by default (interestingly enough the programmers forgot to set that property in Sonic 3 alone if you play as Tails, so he will always die on the first slope unless you manually reset the wrap property by entering a bonus stage or a special stage). The fact that the camera goes nuts if you look down and jump is just a glitch that can be exploited. So the definition should be probably reworded to "abuse" instead of "use", or "does not use the glitch that happens in vertical wrapping levels".

Oh wow, first Super Mario 64, and now this. Can this be the best week in tasvideos' history? I think I don't even need to explain my vote here, I'll just post the suggested screenshot 71270... (10308 bytes)
