For what it's worth, here is an encode made with Flygon's parameters, tesa and crf=18: http://www.archive.org/download/ristar-tas-bonusstages-mmarks/ristar-tas-bonusstages-mmarks.mkv Even if it won't be used, this was short enough and I did it anyway, not a big waste.

Voting YES because it's a good improvement to an already good movie. And here is screenshot 12654 as suggested: (6057 bytes)

I would gladly be up to encode this, using Flygon's parameters and whatnot to provide you guys the highest quality possible, but first I want to know if my encode would have a chance to be published, or if I would be wasting my processor power again, since I have this feeling that the staff doesn't like me.

No. Your screenshot is a 24-bit RGB PNG (option /c2 in PNGOUT), when it should be a palettized PNG (option /c3 in PNGOUT, /d8 because it needs between 17 and 256 colors). So I see your 10271 bytes and I raise a 7822 bytes: Maybe my encodes are prohibited, but I am still good at using PNGOUT ;)

Flygon, the audio was dumped just fine for me, maybe you have to double check your settings. Captionless encode, since it won't be used anyway: This is good enough to deserve a borderline yes vote. Not the most entertaining game in the world, but it looks very optimised. It's a bit better than a meh, and a bit worse than a full-powered yes vote, but I don't dislike it.

I saw your 3x2x encode on Youtube, no offense, but I hope you're making a 320x224 version as well, for those amongst us who aren't fans of HD and prefer original resolutions.

No double cross-system obsoletion?

Love Gimmik! I wonder if you can do some Sonic, maybe a level that doesn't use many glitches so Sonic doesn't go away from the camera.

I think I played this game once! Not bad, I'd watch a TAS of it.

However, there is something that really bugs me. This shouldn't be called "newgame+", as that description was kind of specific for another game, just like the aforementioned Super Mario Land run is labeled as "hard mode" even though they are the same in the underlying concept. This should definitely get the "second quest" flag on the publication page, but as for the branch name, I'd avoid "newgame+" in favour of something more Sonic-specific such as "Hyper Sonic" or something along those lines.

I agree with the post above, it says what I was going to say as well, therefore I'll give this a meh vote. Excellent game choice, with plenty of possibilities for interesting combos and spectacular things. But subpar execution. There were fun moments, but not enough of them. If I could, I'd vote a "please resubmit" like they do on OverClocked ReMix. However, I agree with Sonikkustar and DarkKobold as well, meaning that I am in favour of the double cross-system obsoletion if this (or, hopefully, a more entertaining movie) is accepted for publication.

I usually disable movie messages. It's a matter of personal taste, in my opinion. Even if it's present in other peoples' encodes, it doesn't bother me.

Out of curiosity, would it be better to make this movie start from a snapshot (i.e. SRAM, I think) instead of requiring a savestate? I'd prefer one standalone movie file that can be played in the emulator, rather than requiring both a movie file and a separate savestate file. If this isn't possible, that's fine; I don't know particularly much about this kind of stuff at this point.
If I remember correctly, unfortunately it is not possible to embed savestates of any kind into a GMV movie (like, it was possible instead, for the Hard Mode Super Mario Land movie which is in the workbench right now). External savestates are required. The only way this could work without savestates is if you have a gigantic movie with this movie attached at the end of the old movie, resulting in two game completations in a row.

Just curious, why are noobirdoh's videos and channel unlisted? Share that stuff with the masses, man!
Well, I wasn't sure I could keep this stuff as public, as I am uploading TASes not created by myself, and most of the times I'm uploading those videos without asking for permission first. Therefore, I let only people who come from here to see them, to avoid the classic problems linked to the idiotic Youtube userbase, since I don't want to be told "U didn't play thiz", "cheater!!1!1!", and the like. All I am doing is a service for the tasvideos regular users who can't set up an emulator, helping them into watching movies until an official encode is made. But now let's not go off-topic (I feel guilty otherwise), as Nach said this is quite possibly the best Game Boy TAS of the year, so keep on praising MUGG now, please :]

Let me be the first one to say: YES VOTE. It was about time someone did the TAS of the hard mode.

Here is screenshot 2064 as suggested by marzojr: (11743 bytes) And here is a screenshot of "Binary Zone" as suggested by RadioKJ: (6732 bytes) I have to admit, while the Binary Zone idea intrigues me, marzojr's suggestion describes this TAS in a nutshell -- "what is Hyper Sonic doing in Angel Island Zone?"

I do my HD encodes in MKV before I upload them to YouTube. I don't have any MP4 for you. Sorry. Maybe Noob Irdoh would do it.
Sorry, but I use MKV containers as well. EDIT: By the way, have the Youtube links: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tD-_hePFl8Q http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H18dPX_MtsM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qJQx7DEUD8 I used both my main computer and my laptop to get them uploaded as fast as possible. For you.

I could finally get this to sync thanks to Sonikkustar, and as I expected I gave it a very easy yes vote. Multiplayer TASes are always entertaining to watch (I can only imagine the pain it is to make them, though!). DarkKobold did a very good job on this. edit: Youtube video removed and no official encode being made from me as requested by DarkKobold himself via Private Message.

You know, I was actually thinking about this just a couple of days ago. In my opinion a possible solution would be "uses the SDA route". Basically you take the route used in the SDA, meaning that it can be played by human hands, and you optimise it. Unfortunately I still think it would be rejected, but as I said more than once, fortunately we have Youtube :)

When looking through the site, I found that there is a case where movie numbers don't quite indicate the obsoletion chain. Historical movies (those made before the site) often have higher movie numbers than the movies that obsolete them.
Because of this, I think the movie number shouldn't be used for sorting purposes. It should definitely be included in the file name so one can easily find a movie file given a movie ID, but it shouldn't be used for sorting. Version number to point out the obsoletion chain would be neat instead, but then we have things like this to break the scheme again. Maybe a hybrid solution should be used: in the rare cases where a movie number decrease with an obsoletion, and only in those cases, a v1/v2/v3 numbering should be included. In all the other cases, movie number only is ok. I also agree on the 5 digits padding.
