When I tried it, it got past two of the guard enemies, went a bit further to a cave with different music, and when it exits that room the character gets stuck in a wall.

I second the emu/rom question. Obviously a VirtuaNES video, but i get bad CRC stuff with both standard US versions, and the Japanese version of the game.

You didn't exactly join in during peak hours. Most people were probably asleep at that time. If you were to try again during the evening, you'd probably have better luck.

I enjoy the music in the Sonic series of games the most. This includes the classic Genesis titles, the Adventure series, Heroes, et al. Adventures 1&2 and Heroes all have very awesome final boss themes.

I once planned making a 3D animation that shows a NES console, a TV screen and a robot who plays the NES. The TV screen would show frames from the actual timeattack video, and the robot's fingers would be synced to the data in the FMV file.
Oh wow. Wouldn't this be awesome if you could program a real robot instead? Set it up to use an NES advantage controller or something if the size issue is trouble. Moving a joystick would probably be easier than using the d-pad for a robot anyway. And then you could feed the FMV data to the robot, and have it played on a real NES.

I'm sure I could get timers like that too if I felt like wasting 10 minutes and a life at the final checkpoint of an act.

Yeah. This run is.... severely unimpressive. Although there are a few spots that you went that I normally don't go to. Mainly with Tails carrying you around in Hydrocity. Maybe I'll do a run without worrying about rerecords as an example. P.s. this works with Sonic and Knuckles & Sonic 3 (JUE) [!]

Yeah, walk through walls doesn't look like it will work with the SNES version. It doesn't seem to let you turn around as quickly from a run start.

Seems like a a neat game to make a speedrun of. Especially since Out of This World has been done. Flashback is available for SNES and genesis, so you can take your pick. I think there's also difficulty levels, so someone could play on expert to make it extra cool.

Yeah. I would suggest Azureus if you can get it to work. It's the most configurable and aesthetically pleasing. ABC is a good second choice.

Nrg's quick guide to video compression! Generally, when I compress videos I've recorded, I use 2-pass DivX video with mp3 audio. Virtualdub and Goldwave are the utilities I use to handle this. From the source mpeg, you can open it directly in Goldwave, then you can just go and choose Save As.. and choose the mp3 encoding you want. For the video, you open the source again in Virtualdub, and pick the DivX compression, head to the advanced config and choose multipass, 1st pass. Audio won't be converted. Save as AVI.. choose a filename. Then when it's done we change the config to multipass, n-th pass, and save as AVI, using the same filepath. Close the mpeg, open the new avi, get the wave file for audio, and get the option to match framerate to audio. Save as our final avi, and it's done! Of course... this may not be the preferred method for everyone, but :/ whatever.

Heh, I was kinda wondering about that. Cause it pauses the game when the movie ends and I'm like... what the.. it's not done yet... I actually took the time to dodge the rest of the attacks mind you.

The only experience I have with something like this is when I was watching the Terranigma super video. You needed an older version of zsnes to keep it in sync, and I couldn't see through a sandstorm layer.
