And MagicEngine does PCE. That's nice, but the reason I use BizHawk is its all-in-one solution with a good UI. So my answer is "no" then. Bummer.

In that case, NES and PCE. SMS/GG would be cool too if it's not that much work, but I'm not as much of a fan of that system.

I'd like to request being able to overclock an emulation core's CPU for the (possible) elimination of slowdown. MagicEngine had this feature, and it made some games like the Gradius port infinitely more enjoyable. Certain MAME derivatives also can do this for slowdown-plagued games like AC Double Dragon. I know it goes against the whole accuracy thing and can really mess up certain games, but I think it would be a fun feature to have for casual play.

Three differences in the J version I can think of off the top of my head: - The player sprite always faces forward. - The coast doesn't have the white "beach" border pattern. - Contains religious references and symbols (but I don't recall any specific instance). Edit: Just booted the ROM. In fact, NPC sprites only face forward as well. And some are different than the U version. Additionally, it seems the "Talk" command has 4 sub-commands for which direction you want to talk to.

Wow, I honestly don't even remember posting this or attempting a run. 2005 was a pretty hellish year for me, that's probably why. Glad someone saw it through to completion eventually.

The arcade version of Batsugun is STILL not 100% in MAME, so the only version out there is the Saturn one. Plus is has the neat "special" mode. Would it be possible to use tate mode? That'd be pretty awesome. Some others: - Princess Crown - PuLiRuLa - Prikura Daisakusen - Guardian Force (neat shmup-like STV game featuring a tank with a rotating turret... I completely sucked at it)

Ah yes, my elementary and middle schools were equipped with horribly-outdated Apple ][e and ][gs computers. The MECC games were a staple of in-class recreation. Although Oregon Trail wouldn't make the best speedrun, Number Munchers might be fun to watch, assuming you crank up the math level to as high as it can go.

Life-up bonuses at: 30,000 100,000 500,000 1,000,000 and every 1 million afterwards I think the life max is 30. Not 100% sure though.

Nice! Although incredibly frustrating if you die, it was a favorite game of mine from the rental place. The music is really good. Enjoyed the WIP, keep up the work.

Shadow Zeroes are also found in the original Seiken Densetsu (final fantasy adventure) on Game Boy. Interestingly, they're quite a pain, as when you discover them for the first time (Medusa Cave), you're weak enough to where they can nearly 1-shot you.

Yikes, this emulator is totally messed up for me on my new computer: A-Bit AA8XE LGA775 Intel chipset: ICH6R/925XE Pentium 4 @ 2.8ghz LeadTek GeForce 6600GT Extreme Crappy RealTek onboard sound Win XP Home Direct X 9.0c It will run games okay visually, but the sound is full of crackles, and movie playback crashes it after a few seconds. I can get rid of the crackles by using -restore in the command line, but movies just won't play. ;_;

Not bad at all. I rented this game several times as a kid, thinking I'd be able to at least get further than the last time. I think 4-2 was as far as I got before I gave up on it. You have more than enough bullets, you should be killing as much as possible (without slowing down, of course). You skipped nearly all of the mushrooms in area 1. Since most of the enemies seem to die in one hit, I wouldn't bother with Megagon until you have some unavoidable big enemies coming up. Yeah, if you start firing early, I think you can take down elephants and alligators with the gun. Another fun idea would be to waste all your bullets as fast as you can and stock-bash your way through the game, assuming you can do so while running.

Wow, someone's actually revived this. To make a long story short, a lot of IRL shit went down since my last post here and it ended up with me getting hooked on World of Warcraft, which is still going strong. I check these forums maybe once a month. That game steals souls. Consider my run officially kaput. I don't have the time or the patience to make these anymore. Good luck to you Hero!

Both were ported to Saturn, actually. It's a crazy-expensive 2-disc set. SoM requires the 4MB RAM cart to run.

This game is great. My sister and I both got GameBoys for Christmas in '91. I got Nekketsu Soccer (Nintendo World Cup) with mine, and she got Catrap. I think I made it to somewhere in the level 40's, but I gave up because the puzzles were incredibly brutal by then. I remember spending hours solving each level at that point. Warp run... bah. I'd much rather see it done properly.

No, I've never seen Kain's jump make the screen flash like normal criticals. This is in both FF2US and FFIV.

Yup, the easiest way to do that is to set the message speed to the slowest setting (8). That way, you can manually advance every bit of action text in battle and manipulate who attacks when, who attacks what, what attacks are used, and criticals. And, as an added bonus, manually advancing the text as fast as possible is faster than the fastest message speed. Testing all those frames is a real fucking chore, though, especially for a game this long. The debugger should help with that.

I haven't touched this run in a while. I made it a good ways into Lava Dome, and discovered that I (Tagazin) can't use the Life Spell to kill enemies with one hit. I tested every single frame in multiple battles, and it just won't connect. When Reuben uses it, it works fine, which leads me to believe that my level is too low. Or the spell is bugged. Whatever. I don't have plans to continue this test run anytime soon. Before I can proceed, I need to re-route Lava Dome and skip the Life Spell, as well as learning how to use the debugger for manipulation in battle (testing all those frames sucks so much), neither of which I have any interest in doing right now.

The reason I went into the menu was to change the HP window from the blocks to numbers, and I figured I'd switch her to manual while I was there. If I ever do attempt a submittable run, I won't be changing the HP window, so yeah, I can just hit Y to make her manual.

Yup, they sure are. In a submittable run, I wouldn't bother getting any.
You can haggle Tristam down to 15 gp on those bombs. Your choice.
But that takes longer, because the game has to scroll another block of text. In my opinion, speed is everything in RPG runs. Every little bit helps.

Definitely. I wasn't sure how the magic/seed situation would be by the end of the Pyramid, so I was a little stingy with magic if I could manipulate an otherwise 1-roundable enemy encounter. You know something else? I never bothered to check left+right and up+down to see if they did anything. Plus, this movie was made with the old snes9x (unimproved). It might be best to start over from scratch, but like I said, I'm just not interested right now. I went ahead and uploaded my progress as it stands: Movie - ends after Life Spell in Lava Dome Snapshot - world 3 start (F9 slot)

Question - do you have to keep recording input after you beat Chaos, or will the ending text advance by itself? If it's the latter, then you should stop the movie on the frame that you input the last action in the Chaos battle. The movie is great, otherwise. I'll vote once I hear an answer to my question.
