Yes, translations can and have affected the way a game behaves. For instance, look at FF3J: the esoteric job bugs used in piro's run no longer work the way they do with the popular translation that's available.
You mean there's more than one? In that case, how would the TASer and the TAS community are going to choose the best one? Checking at ROMhacking.net?

Why can't Luigi get through walls? He can in the Japanese Super Mario Bros 2... and, about the fireworks, just waste a few frames...

So, new runs should be obsoleted or go along in a separate section (like the Rom Hacks) Also, is there a limit for hacks based on a single game? I really hope not, but it's something that happened a few times, and there's always some talk if the submitted run would obsolete another romhack.

I.. Don't know... It's fast, well played and all... But, in the end, it's the same movie as the unhacked Super Mario 64. Some walls are walked trough, Bowser is defeated... Voting meh on this one. A 151 star run should be better for this movie.

I like them. They're disturbing sometimes, like Ridley and inside out Draygon. Voting yes on this one ...although I must ask: does this game have any story? It's seems I'm missing something about this game (besides never playing the Metroid Prime trilogy) why everything started exploding for no reason (I know it's Metroid, and almost every game ends with a planet shattering explosion, but still) and the identity of the enemies the enemies are. I know it's a hack, and I shoudn't be asking this, but it makes me wonder...

...wow, now you're generalising for the sake of generalising. You took joke submissions and menu debugs to make a point. TASes made without an purpose besides giving a chucke. You presented 11 TASes under 2 minutes. The site published more than 30.
First, [submission 2602]not all[/submission] [submission 2557]short[/submission] [submission 2997]submissions[/submission] [submission 2906]are[/submission] [submission 2896]joke[/submission] [submission 2085]submissions[/submission]. Second, at time of writing, we have 2485 published/accepted submissions and 1313 rejected/cancelled submissions. That's a ratio of 1.89:1. Through some database magic, I can similarly inform you that there are 71 published/accepted submissions with a length under two minutes, and 159 cancelled/rejected, for a ratio of 0.45:1 - much less than average. This negates both your new point and your apparent original argument related to length of the run.

At what point did you bring this up again? I'll note that you did respond to at least one other point in my replies to your original line of argument, so I can assume you did read the rest of it.

[movie 1451]Here is a published movie that fits your criteria[/movie] (barring the "under 2 minutes" portion). [submission 2331]Here is a submission[/submission] barely over two minutes and fits the rest of your criteria. [submission 2085]Here is another submission[/submission], which is even under two minutes. It may just be me, but I do not think any of the above can be considered fast-paced.
I consider this game fast-paced. The character runs at a reasonable speed while dodging everything. I can be wrong, but that doesn't matter, does it? You don't really want to discuss this. You're just going to ignore all I've said, possibly making another snide comment about my post. Now I see why you didn't quote anyone. You still insists that I've pointed the run's duration just to mean it's short instead of adding to the "fast paced factor". You still keeps trowing site numbers and submissions. I'm done with that. You complain that not all of your submissions examples are jokes or debug modes, two quotes later you do basically the same, using an universally loathed game to make your point and to mock mine. You're trying to ridicularize me, since "my criteria for fast paced games" should make one of the most sluggish games ever made fast paced. You don't want do discuss anything, you just wants to be right. This attitude shouldn't be welcomed in a discussion board.

Just because its entertaining doesnt mean it should be published.
Could you please elaborate? I'd like to hear more about what you have to say about this. I can see this applying to that debug mode in Super Metroid, but not in this game Note, I'm not being sarcastic or anything. I really meant it.

"completely avoiding any contact with enemies[...]"
Is it much of a technical challenge to pull this off? Given the absurdly simple gameplay, I submit that it is not. Further, as a rule, the site audience generally prefers movies making creative use of taking damage to save time rather than strict no-damage runs.
Example of a game with simple gameplay. Example of a movie where taking damage was deprecated (by the way, I love both runs) The way you said,it seems all games in this site shold take damage to save time, even where the game doesn't work that way

"using glitches to finish the game"
I count one glitch; did you see more than one? With respect to the one glitch, is it a significant time saver? [submission 3171]By way of comparison[/submission], it is not. Does it significantly alter gameplay? Seeing as the result is merely to let the player character continue running to the right with slightly less impediment, it is not. Does the glitch, therefore, have significant technical merit? I submit that it does not.
Ok, I misused the plural. ok. So, you're saying this glitch is not big enough to be counted. Not every game is Mega Man 2 or Super Mario 64, you know...

Define "fast paced". Usually that describes runs which require quick reaction times on the part of the player and, arguably, a continual feeling of imminent danger - that one little mistake can cause everything to go horribly wrong. Perhaps it's just me, but I don't sense that here.

There have been [movie 230]runs accepted[/movie] [movie 363]under dubious[/movie] [movie 1646]circumstances[/movie] before; the point of my bringing this up is that if a poor quality run is accepted, the community will tend to look upon this with shame and embarrassment (just look at the general reception the first of those movies has had in the time since it's been published).
I'll try to explain better. The best way to overcome your mistakes is to fix them. If exclusion is not an option, the community should make a new submission, making it better and fixing the mistake. I tried to be all poetic last post about this, guess it didn't work =(

Normally, a boring TAS would need to have at least a modicum of technical merit to be even considered for acceptance (and, conversely, a run with less-than-average technical merit would need to be supremely entertaining to be considered for publication).
well, in my book "completely avoiding any contact with enemies while not stopping at all" and "using glitches to finish the game" seems like a nice tecnical merit...

I see neither entertainment nor technical merit (or, indeed, the possibility for either) here, so I do not understand how this can be considered for publication in any sense.
This TAS have only two minutes, it's fast paced and uses glitches. Also, it's far from being the worst game ever TASed.

The way I see the site doesn't host "mistakes", just movies people do not care enough to work in improving it =)
