I'm having trouble finding the ROM on that Chinese-language site that Mars linked to (and the first link seems to be broken). One of the links on the second page pointed to "hrm.zip", but it just redirected me to another page I didn't understand. Can you explain how I can find the ROM, or post an encode?

Thank you for listening! Perhaps I am taking your words in the wrong light. Your English has gotten so much better, I'm probably starting to forget to think about the fact that you aren't a native speaker :) I'm still pretty upset about how angry you seem to be at Brandon's TAS, but I'm really glad you are able to take criticism maturely. We'll probably never agree on everything, but I wish you all the best - don't take my other post in the Minimum Input thread too hard ^_^

Oh HappyLee, how I wish you were excited to add your expertise to Brandon's new idea to produce a well-optimized collaboration! There is no need to tell him how much he sucks - he knows very well that he's not a superstar SMB TASer, and didn't even try for most glitches. That's just not what he cares about! And that's okay! He has undeniably contributed something that many community members are interested in, and sparked the desire to see how far his idea can go. You could help us all find out and come off as a hero, but instead you've chosen to disparage Brandon's work. I understand what you said about how for you this game is like a whole other world. But that's why you have to understand that your opinion is in the minority, and that this game can be meaningful for other people in ways you can't appreciate. I wish you could get excited about this run and help out, but if you really can't, please just back off and let the people who do care have their fun. I have no idea if the judges will accept this run or not, but at this point both sides have made their case, and you won't influence them further by continuing to insult people.

HappyLee, you make great SMB runs, and it seems like you used to have a great sense of humor and fun, too. But recently you seem to have gotten quite egotistical, and begun to belittle the accomplishments of others and trumpet your own. It makes me sad, because I used to be proud to be a huge HappyLee fan. I wish you would realize that your work speaks for itself, and that the success of others does not diminish yours in any way. It doesn't look so good when you go around saying that you're tackling "one of the hardest tasks in the world", and that you beat someone else "pretty hard", when you're not even directly competing with them. Just show us your great TAS! Tell us about the technical challenges you overcame, and we will be very eager to listen!

A maximum input run of Tetris might be entertaining for a minute, since the blocks would be spinning around and moving back and forth like crazy before falling perfectly into place.

Voting yes. I think it's weird that people find this more technically impressive but less interesting than HappyLee's normal warped run -- I think that run is *way* more technically impressive (this run is barely glitched at all!) but way more boring. I mean, it's a great run, don't get me wrong. But the main entertainment comes from knowing that every last frame has been squeezed out of it. Here, you can actually follow along and see the very clever ways that frames are saved, and to me that is FAR more entertaining.

Can the stairs to the warp zone in 4-2 be entered a la the second gif here in fewer than 6 presses? I don't have experience doing the trick, but the page seems to indicate that it should be possible, if tricky. If I'm counting right, it seems like you could do it in 4 presses: 1. Add L to decelerate and steer away once ejection starts 2. Jump into the stair instead of onto the top platform 3. Release L and add R to walk through the wall 4. Fall onto the pipe and press D, keep holding R. I'm sure I'm missing something, or maybe it's just impossible. Sorry if you've already tried this a million times/already know it's not doable for an obvious reason, Brandon :)

This is very exciting! The encode is so good, and we got a really neat improvement from andrewg himself! :D Strong support for adopting minimum presses as an accepted category, and the yesest of votes on this run.

Heartily approve of this category. The two I've seen so far have been easily as entertaining as most normal runs.

Waiting for the full version, I want to more accurately relive my days of being able to pass this in GH3 :D

Thanks for running this and putting together the compilation, SP! This is one of my favorite ways to watch a TAS, it's great to see a fuller exploration of the possibility space so you can see *why* the optimal route is optimal. And congrats on winning your bet ;)

I agree that there is a qualitative difference between runs with subtractive constraints and runs that seek to do as much of something as possible, and that the former tend to be more interesting to more people. That isn't to say that certain individuals might not want to watch a max-coins run, and if they want to make one they should go for it. I wouldn't support it's publication on TASVideos though, and given that the low-score run didn't make it, I expect the majority would agree with me. Unless it were exceptionally artistic in some other way at the same time, that is.

I just want to make sure that everyone in this thread is aware that the Rupee is an actual name for many currencies used in real countries right here on earth. Also, I am gladdened to see that SlowKing has resolved not to get riled up over Spider-Waffle anymore, and I hope that Spider-Waffle will return the favor by being as polite as possible, and attempting to make it very clear why his suggestions are reasonable in the face of existing knowledge.

I love the task! I did a very similar thing with Mario 3 for my very first TAS attempt. I still want to do more of that run someday...

There's half of a cutsceneless encode on nicovideo on page 9, but I doubt that's what you're looking for ^^ I hope Tompa finishes it though!

If this really just straight up beats an existing run, I don't see why we should reject it just because we think Cardboard will probably submit a better one in a month. It's currently the best we have, and for all we know, Cardboard could have a heart attack and die before his run is finished (please don't actually die, Cardboard! :P) Seems like the improvement is significant, I approve of there only being the one, no-damage branch (especially if there's no reason to take damage anyway), and I think dark_rocco deserves his moment in the sun. Yes vote.

Thanks for both of those videos/songs BomF. I appreciated them for entirely different reasons :P I ended up skipping around a bit in the run after a while, but it was neat to see all the different environments and silly items.

Mildly dislike "BizHawk" and think the emulator will be more appealing and find greater success if it is changed. "StarHawk" is decent (and clever) and I doubt it matters that much that other things have been called that. Strongly agree that .tas is a bad extension, for all the reasons CoolKirby gave.

That video is incredible. I'm so glad you uploaded it. I watched.. a lot of it..... The minute or so starting at ~34:33 is especially profound.

Came back to this thread to re-request a cutsceneless encode and point out that for those who really really want to see the cutscenes in English, putting out a nice set of subtitles would be a good direction to channel that energy. But Tompa's already on it (Thank you! So much!) and Melismatically already made that point, so I guess I don't really need to post after all.

Is anyone working on a cutsceneless encode? I *really* want to watch this, but I also really want to wait for the cutsceneless if one is coming. Assuming that such an encode would chop out around 30-45 minutes, I think it would do a lot to increase the number of people willing to watch this movie.
