I've got also this cannot open movie error. There's something that I have noticed. When you play the game at normal speed and you pause the emu and frame counter activated then use frame advance, sometimes 2 or more frames are skipped. Ex. Frame counter activated while playing the game at normal speed. Pause it. It writes 600. Use frame frame advance, it writes 602. Where is 601? :P Here is something that I think is clumsy. If I want to configure something in VBA, I discover that this Menu is pretty bad. Just an example. If I want to remove somes of the graphics layer, I must go to Options->Video->Graphics layer then uncheck them. The main problem, after unchecking one it closes the menu and I am forced to redo Options->Video->Graphics layer. Seriously, there's too many options in VBA. Why Video doesn't have it's own window with a cancel or ok button. I am pretty sure you can do something cleaner than this. So wasn't enough for v17? :P P.S. I use the Graphics layer as an example since I think it was one of the unpleasant things to configure in VBA.

I didn't tried your new version. I always capture with PNG and it doesn't crash here with v15. + When I capture screen it also captures messages like frame counter.

We can't capture picture when emu is paused.

In FF4, I use the Memory Viewer to help me manipulating luck. Something that annoys me is the "Automatic update" box doesn't remain checked when I close the window or emu. I want it to stay checked.

cottage = cabin in this version. Though, I won't use neither of them in my run.

There's so many new items and somes have been removed. The strategy is different than what I have thought before starting this game. Some of those new items are really useful.

Hint: When the movie is finished and encoded in AVI. Pause the movie when there's dialogue :P

But since we both agree that the SNES and GBA versions are different enough to warrent seperate runs there's no need to debate it much further. ;)
Who knows maybe some people don't like that idea. ;)

How well do you think you'll be able to manipulate Zeromus's actions? I haven't checked, yet, to see if Big Bang's damage was lowered by stealing the Dark Matter yet, I've only fought him once so far. It's possible that's another 'bug' that was fixed, though I always thought the Dark Matter theft was intentional.
I don't know. I am used to FF2US which doesn't have Darkmatter and there's lot of new things in that game. New items etc..

There's actually a discussion going on in the Final Fantasy III topic about whether Locke's scenario should be skipped entirely due to a new glitch found that lets you walk through NPCs. You may think that's stupid as well, (and I personally would much rather see that part of the game done, too), but it's very personal what people think of it.
I don't like that bug. It's not because I think it is a stupid bug that people must be forced to think that it is stupid. For RPG, I love to see the whole game. Not parts here and there to be like an incomplete puzzle.

Omega: You don't seem to understand either. I will ask you a question. There's 2 versions of the game. One that contain some stupid known bugs or one that doesn't. Which one will you choose? Btw, there's not so many TAS that use glitches like that. Lot of them do have glitches but not so many that let you skip whole part of the game. Most of them let you do those parts quicker. It's not the same. Zelda 2 and 3 TAS do have glicth like that. Seriously, they aren't amazing. The 1 hour movie is better than the glitch movie. By " 'stupid' " glitch like that" I meant, and it was evident, a glitch that let you skip a whole part of the game. Not common glitches like in SMB for example or the useful duplication glitch in FF2US or IV.

So, you are that kind of man that is trying to make me guilty because I think it's better when bugs are fixed? rofl Imo, it was better to be fixed and some other things that could be abused like the easy leveling trick in Giant of Babel and the useful duplication item trick . I agree with Square-Enix and you feel angry because of that. Things that people should expect from a remake: 1st. Bugs fixed. 2nd. New features. 3rd. Improving existing feature. Like better music.

At any rate, due to the differences, I still think a seperate run of the US FF2, or JP FF4 on the SNES should be attempted by someone, if only for exploiting the greater number of glitches left in it.
I agree with that. It's evident that FF2 Snes, FF4 Snes, FF4 PSX and FF4 Advance on GBA are all different games even if they look similar.

I should note that according to my testing the Warp glitch in the Dwarves castle crystal room no longer works in the GBA version. This will force you to do the sealed cavern later on and will add quite a bit of time that could have been avoided otherwise.
That's better than using a stupid glitch like that.

On top of that, both leveling tricks in the Tower of Babel no longer work. Searchers now summon Centaurions (which give far less EXP) instead of D.Machines - heck, I haven't even seen D.Machines or whatever they're renamed to in FF4 Advance yet - and the Attack/Defense Nodes of the CPU no longer give experience.
I don't know for searchers since I've got more work to do to be there but it's sad for Attacker/Defender. Since it's a TAS, I won't be needed to do as much level up as an imperfect video. D.Machines are Dragon Mech.

Something that indicates, a logo like FCEU, if it is recording, pause or nothing at all would be nice.

Yes it's related about bad ROMs. It's not FCEU's fault if there's bad ROMs. I am happy with the good ROM. Imo, it is better to fix those bad ROMs than implementing some hack in FCEU.

Back when it was just Blip's/Phil's patches, I noticed that FCEU would lose its hotkey settings if I loaded one of the older, "official" versions of FCEU. Though sometimes it would lose some of its hotkeys anyway... Is that related to this?
Hint: I already answered that question before anyone asked it.

huh no FCEU never crash here. It's not that. I thought there's a SAVE CONFIG option but it's probably in some other emu I guess.

I am voting for GBA. There's lot of new games that are released. So it could be one of them. So it will be sure no one had played it before.

I don't think I will be part of any team. I am too busy with other games right now.
