Anyway, it's like ~5 frames we're talking about. Not very much. But enough to make it less than 5 minutes. 17995 frames -> 4:59.92 18000 frames -> 5:00.00 I can see why you drive this opinion.
Ah, never thought of that, I should stop my movie at 18000 frames. It will be clean :)

At the end of 8-2, why didn't you hat-stomp the turtle that was jumping down the stairs?
I knew someone will ask this question. Evidently, I could but will make the jump so high that it looks less interesting. Maybe I am wrong.

Look into that get hurt by the axe glitch and see if it saves you time. Also consider that shooting bowser can save time.
I have watched the "Show glitches" run and it seems the animation bridge is there. To become fiery Mario, I must lose 122 frames maybe a little more for animation + the fact I must do some detour to collect Mushroom and Fireflower. I have some doubt it is faster. The problem, I don't know how many frames it saves for killing Bowser that way, if it's the case. Maybe I should test since there's 8 Bowser well 7 since I don't care about the 8th one because I can jump to collect the axe.

I have just finished 1-1 to 1-4. Evidently, I use the beginning of my precedent movie. It can be downloaded there: http://hiddendragon.sytes.net/Super%20Mario%20Bros.%20(JU)%20(PRG0)%20%5b!%5d.zip If there's something wrong, tell me.

1) What is your name? Where do you live? Philippe Côté. Québec. 2) How did you first hear of/get into timeattack videos? Well, it happens a day I have nothing more interesting to do than browsing www.suprnova.org site. Then found Morimoto's SMB3 video. I have downloaded the video, WMV format file, then watched it. I was impressed and I thought a crazy maniac that plays this game everyday did this but not so much later, I see the truth when finding Bisqwit's site. At first, I felt a little deceived but thinking of that, I told myself that I can do movies myself. 3) What about timeattack videos captivates you? What makes it worth spending many many hours creating them? Hard games that looks easy when watching them after. 4) What is the process you use to start, plan, and complete a timeattack video? I usually choose a game that I know. Though, sometimes, it' not true ;). If it exist, I watch a current video and correct the guy's errors. Otherwise, try and errors. Sometimes, when I don't know the game very much, I check an entire stage so it gives me a better idea how to do it. Sometimes, I check some FAQs at www.gamefaqs.com to help me. 5) Which timeattack video that you've created are you most proud of? Why? All of them but I actually love my Double Dragon 2 played alone. 6) There seems to be some criticism/antagonism directed at the creators of timeattack videos. How do you explain this? Does this represent competing philosophies about how video games should be played? One word, jealousy. 7) Do you consider yourself a film maker? Yes I do. I think the same as Bisqwit.

Maybe not everyone. There's some guys that agree with my opinion also. Edit: I'm sorry if I offended some people by saying this. It looks like "I'm not saying I'm the only one who's right. Everyone who shares my opinion are too." That's not what I thought first. Maybe yes. I really hate this rule. :P

IMO, I may be irrespectful and sorry but I think this rule is for loser that don't know how to stop their movie as fast as possible.

File paths are fully configurable. Movie files are stored in the same dir as savestates dir.

I know someone will ask this :P. Since the boost doesn't help me to reach 344, I don't see any reason to use it. More than that, I must slow down Mario by some frames to reach 342. You took awhile seems big words, that's not that much. In fact, to swim backwards, I must do that. So Mario swim as fast as normal swimming. Between you and me, it looks better that way. In the end, it's not slower. You could have touched the axe sooner. You shouldn't be beating the game slower just so you can stop pressing buttons sooner. That's not that much slower maybe 1-2 frames max.

If the fastest way to complete the game = having the best timeunits, then it's cool but that's not my goal.

Now that we have finished doing the short version, we can start doing the full version. Do you have some recommendations?

but people can still PAUSE which makes me wonder: stop as early as possible, or stop where people can't pause the game. the way you did it's neither one or neither the other...
We can pause in Mana's movie as well as Michael Fried's one.

So was this any faster? Or just equal but "smoother-looking"?
Actually, it's supposed to be 21 frames faster because of stage 4-2 improvement.

Well, who decides when the movie is stopped? Shouldn't it be at the earliest possible time to begin with?
When I started doing timeattacks, it was this rule that applies but now I wonder why it's changed now.

Within a few days!? Today, you should say. An easy game like that isn't very long to do :) I am at stage 8-4.

As others have mentioned already, you could have jumped to the pipe in 8-4 backwards. I never bothered testing it myself since it looks so much faster so I assumed it must be faster, so unless you tested it and it ends up that I was wrong all this time I don't think it should be accepted the way it is now. You are right and wrong. At the moment, it seems faster but in fact it is not. The problem here is when you enter a pipe at some timeunits, then exiting the pipe, the timer sets it to to next timeunit with new and fresh 24 frames. Ex. You enter a pipe at 375 with 2 frames faster than someone else that also enters a pipe at 375 timeunit, you and him will restart at 374 timeunits and must wait 24 frames before it goes to 373. But you are saying that if you enter a pipe 2 frames earlier, you will exit 2 frames earlier. That's not true. The black screen when changing section will last 2 frames longer than the other guy. If you don't understand, you should read my earlier post for how those 21 frames rule works. Anyway, it looks cooler even if it's not faster. You should also make the coin room in 1-1 look better. Why couldn't you just press left as you were falling to enter the pipe more smoothly? :P Btw, I have a suggestion for your final version. Besides when you need to go higher to get coins or kill enemies, always make your jumps as low as possible. I must admit that I could do some jumps a little nicer but in most cases they were precised. I have a question about how you start the levels. Do you turn around by pressing left for 1 frame, or do you press left and right simultaneously during that 1 frame (or does it not make a difference)? Pressing left+right.

We are not in F1 racing here but a simple timeattack. This site always show in-time emulator movie file. I am not cheating the system, I am with the system. Some guys doesn't seem to understand that. Personally, I always thought that way and probably not change it. To respect rules, I have no choice to stop my movie later but I don't like that way. P.S. I use the 1st person because people, between lines, are talking about that SMB1 submission.

I think you should do like Boco said because for some reason the Bio Blaster can be useful later maybe not. If you restart the movie right here right now, you'll never know. Like you, I have played a lot but didn't care of doing of speedrun. So I don't know the fastest moves to kill some bosses like The Final Battle ;)

False. Battletoads have something that explain why the 2nd player is dying in a certain stage. Though, today, we know it's not true that Famtasia emulates that game badly. It's the game itself that contains a major bug.
