The cause of this is actually a problem with FCEU(audio processing speed is tied to CPU speed; it shouldn't be).
Actually, yes it should be. This is not a problem with FCEU, but is an inherent property of the NES itself: the audio hardware is located on the same die as the CPU and thus is always clocked at the exact same rate. Overclock the CPU (by inserting a faster oscillator, leaving the original one on the PPU) and the audio pitch will go up. There's another issue with increasing the clock speed on the NES: certain games (mostly stuff by Rare - Battletoads is the first that comes to mind) rely on exact CPU timing in order to accomplish certain visual effects (e.g. parallax scrolling). In such games, increasing the CPU speed would result in graphical glitches and could potentially cause the game to crash.

Please re-make this using a ROM with a good checksum; it desynched with mine and even with a ROM from a site suggested by your movie file.
Indeed - the movie suggested that the ROM name was "Vimm's Lair: vimm.net", a site which seems to enjoy altering ROM images to advertise the website (with NES ROMs, they tack it onto the end and confuse GoodNES, but in this case it seems to have hacked the name into the contents of the ROM itself).

From what I recall, green gems just give points (and maybe stuff like extra lives every 100), while there are exactly 10 red gems on each level which give a special bonus at the end.

Watched this run, and concluded that mushroom's original run was more entertaining. Speed is not the only focus for movies on this site, especially when they fall in the "Concept demos/Other" category (in which mushroom's original Air 2 run is located).

I wasn't paying close enough attention, though what did stick out was the fact that he was consistently pronouncing "ocarina" wrong (hint: the "o" is pronounced like the vowel in "odd", not "ode").

This run either needs to have the new GMV uploaded and attached or needs to be cancelled and resubmitted, since the main download link still gives the long version of MZ1.

http://validator.w3.org/ is your friend - use it well, and the only browser-specific hacks you should need will be for Internet Explorer (which shouldn't be much if you ignore the obsolete IE6).

Technically, 60.0988 Hz is within that "some small fraction" of standard NTSC that pretty much all television sets are capable of rendering it properly.

I've gotten around the problem by simply deleting movie files once they are obsoleted. In my case, this is made a bit easier by using a script which does it automatically (by querying the tasvideos DB), but I agree that it'd be nice for movie filenames to follow some sort of reasonable standard.

On Underground 3 and Sky High 1, is there a reason why you didn't back off to the left on a few of the vertical springs to avoid clipping against the edge of the ledge above them (and thus preserve horizontal velocity)? [edit] meant Underground 3, not 1

Translated for convenience: This underhanded trick is an extremely rare one, allowing the Mack battle to be skipped outright. Also, when using this trick, the "Star Pieces" menu will not show the first piece having been collected. However, upon collecting the second star piece, the first one will also be acquired, resulting in no impact on the storyline. By the way, this is [ITK's] movie, though [he] was not the one who discovered this glitch.

Windows XP likes to query AVI files so it can display their duration and resolution (and other stuff) in the Explorer window status bar. Unfortunately, if there's anything wrong with the AVI file, Windows will scan through the entire file to find the information it wants. While it's looking for that information, the file is open and you can't rename or delete it, but if you wait a few seconds you should be able to. Alternatively, you can just turn off that annoying behavior completely by doing the following: 1. Open regedit 2. Locate the key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.avi\shellex\PropertyHandler 3. Observe that the "(Default)" value should be set to "{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}" 4. Select "(Default)", press the DEL key, and answer "Yes" and note that it now says "(value not set)"

Any particular reason why you shoot the bomb torizo while it's jumping? As a result, it takes it longer to hit the ground and attack, making it take longer to get missiles with which to speedily kill it. I observed this tactic the normal Super Metroid run as well (before the NTSC bomb torizo skip trick was discovered), so I'm curious why it wasn't used here as well.

If you find the levels boring, perhaps you should try dropping in .DAT files from any of the Oxyd games. Just be warned that not all Oxyd levels can be completed, since Enigma is still incomplete.

Here's a question: does that glitch work in the NTSC version of SMB, or is it exclusive to the PAL version used in that video?

Rename the .sub file to match the .avi file (i.e. rename it to ffvwip-world1end.sub) and it should automatically detect and load them.

While watching, I caught a few messages which weren't translated properly: 0:21:50 - "Got kamenokutsu" - this is "kawa no kutsu", otherwise known as "leather boots" 0:35:06 - "Stole: ???" - the message actually says "Nothing to steal!" 0:43:36 - "Stole: misurirunaifu o nusunda" - this should be "Stole MythrilKnife" (incidentally, the "o nusunda" translates to "was stolen") 1:03:24 - "Got katonnojatsu" - it's actually "katon no jutsu" - one FAQ listed "HellFire". Same for at 1:13:00 1:26:23 - "Got Ice Bow (koorinojumija?)" - "koori no yumiya" is indeed "Ice Bow"

This reminds me of the "reset glitch" in Super Metroid, which is done differently between consoles and emulators .

Too much glitching (much of which relies on incorrect emulation) for me, so my answer has to be "No". Even though a 'proper' run of this game would be far more boring.

Wow... I had no idea you could go that fast in F-Zero X. Also, if you're going to compare this to SMK64, at least wait until the Rainbow Road track has been done in both of them.
