There are numerous gc games being worked on. Off the top of my head, super monkey ball, paper mario TTYD, zelda wind waker, and zelda twilight princess are all being worked on. Also there is one on the workbench right now, not to mention spiderman 2 had a (rejected) submission as well. There are a few difficulties with tasing dolphin. First of course it is extremely slow. While anyone with a dirt cheap laptop can tas nes games without any problem, the same isn't true of gamecube/wii games. My mid range laptop running a 2.2 ghz 3 core phenom II can hit between 4 and 35 fps, depending on the game. 35 fps is annoying, but not prohibitively slow, but it does make it almost impossible to tas the more demanding games. Second, most of the good games are 3d. In fact, you'll note that the two wii games that have been published are both 2d games. 3d games are far, far more difficult to tas than 2d games. This is bad enough for n64 or ps1 games, but when they also run so slow, and tend to be long games, it becomes extremely time consuming to tas a wii/gc game. Keep in mind too that tasing dolphin has only really been viable for about 4 months now. Give it some time.

Finally got around to watching this. There was rather shocking number of places where very minor improvements were obviously possible. Overall, it still looked great though, and was awesome to watch, and i'd love to vote yes on it. Unfortunately though, the game was not completed, so i have no choice but to vote no.

Would it be possible to skip the bottle if you could trigger text when landing on the blue exit warp in Gohma's room? For example if you were to get deku nuts for the first time and the nuts were right on the blue part, would it trigger both an information box and the warp scene at the same time? Just throwing out ideas. It would be awesome to see the whole bottle sequence removed from future runs.
Magic bean (and some other things) can be used to move during the warp. Unfortunately it does not pause the timer though, so you can't make it to the door in time. You could also do ocarina items using bomb and beans, but obviously that's slower than just getting a bottle. Unfortunately, bottle is indeed the fastest way.

A bunch of things are fixed, but they may or may not affect your game(s). The latest build is about as fast as the previous one. Every change is listed at http://code.google.com/p/dolphin-emu/source/list if you want to see if there's anything useful.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11111638/Dolphinx64.exe http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11111638/Dolphinx86.exe Updated to the latest master revision (ec0ddb476ebea7d40bc11333264c42eacea936dc) and also includes a patch to disable compression on save states (it's an option in config). Which in addition to making save states load faster, it should hopefully fix the random crashes on load states. It does not include natt's a/v sync patches, since they can't applied to the latest revisions, and i'm too lazy to fix them, but movies should all sync on the previous 616 i released, so that's not a big deal for now. Enjoy your 100+ mb save states though. edit: looks like it doesn't sync after all :(

Come on natt, just redo it. This encode clearly does not meet the tasvideos standard.

Rhythm games... are "exact reaction times" not the point of TASing?
Yes, but it's not impressive when the only possibility is to do is exactly right or completely wrong. Everyone has different opinions on what is entertaining, so if you're not sure something will be publishable, just make a short demo and ask for opinions.

I'd offer, but not sure how well i meat those second and third points. I do hope we can get some good judges. The wait time for windows and dolphin submissions as of late is quite unfortunate. Good luck to anyone who wants to be a judge!

Didn't the Final Fantasy VIII TAS get judged and published faster than this? There should be no excuse for a submission going unclaimed for over a month and a half.
That's a final fantasy. A 15 hour zelda, mario or metroid game would also be judged right away.
And are you saying not even the people who commented watched the whole encode? I certainly did.
By no one, i obviously mean most people.

Judges don't want to deal with dolphin or windows games. And no one wants to watch an almost 2 hour tas.

Well it wasn't so much a plan, but more of a "this is what's going to happen" deal.

I thought the plan was to just leave this unjudged forever?

Have you just not noticed the almost constant problems on tasvideos? 500 errors galore, and 10+ second loads happen all the time.
And changing the design of the rating system fixes this problem how, exactly?

Reducing the number of pages that the site has to generate would reduce the load on the server, thus giving it more spare cycles to generate other pages. It's only an incremental improvement, sure, but it wouldn't be pointless.
I'm getting mixed signals here. People complain that they don't rate because it's so many clicks away. A design change is suggested that would ostensibly make them rate more often. Exactly how does this help reduce the traffic? Wouldn't it be the exact opposite? (Besides, I don't think the problems the server is having is due to ratings. It's not like the server receives dozens of ratings per second.)
Uh, it wouldn't affect the site problems (at least not in any significant way). Why would it? I mentioned the slow loading times and frequent 500 errors because they are another obstacle to rating.

Could you be a bit more specific what exactly makes the current design so much of a "hassle"?
It takes a hundred thousand clicks and a million page loads to rate a movie. And/or it's 2 page loads and 10 clicks. It's one of those.

this general approach skews the rating of already popular movies towards the upper limit so much it makes it completely pointless,
Popular games should be rated higher. We have a lot of people around here who seem to think it's impossible to enjoy a tas of a game they've never played, which although is not true, it definitely tends to be more entertaining to watch a tas if you've played the game before, for obvious reasons. More people will find tases of popular games entertaining solely because they've played them before, and thus they should be rated higher.

I think he's joking. He's noting the irony of the ratio of cutscenes to gameplay in this run (since a cutsceneless encode was made for the currently published any% run).
Why would i even joke about something this serious? The cutscenes in this game are just too long. I'm sure a lot of people agree that this would be much easier to watch without them. For a run as awesome as this, i think we should do whatever it takes to make sure everyone can enjoy it.

Also, is there definitely no way to get past the 2-3-1 room OoB without bombs? That's all that shield is really needed for, right?
Can't be done as child. And it does help with pcs and isg.

Before anything is done with #1, rating needs to be made far less of a hassle. As is, i don't even bother rating anything if it it's not really great, because it just requires way too much effort (and goddamn loading 2 extra pages can take forever sometimes). Otherwise all of this makes sense, pending how each thing would actually be weighed. Also, i just noticed the lowest rating i've given was for my own movie :(

Spider-Waffle is actually right here. The stick route arrives indeed exactly 30 seconds faster at the lost woods than the sword route.
Except that he never mentioned a word about only being faster up to lost woods. Which is entirely meaningless. It is clearly slower overall.

One thing that bothers me with games like this, with lots of cinematic 16:9 elements even though the game is 4:3, is that makes for a lot of wasted space since almost all modern screens (except iPads) are widescreen. So I did some avisynth hackery to auto-zoom as close as possible to 16:9 without cutting out important elements, and staying 4:3 when necessary. I tried it out on this TAS, but I'll let you decide whether it's cool or too jarring (I can't decide, though it would probably be better if the transition was smooth instead of instant... First try and all that). :) Link to video (watch in full screen for full effect. I can't figure out how to embed the movie into this post with a wide aspect ratio)
This looks really bad to me.

Well, when do you think we could see a TAS of Twilight Princess? We've already had a Wii TAS in the form of Mega Man 10. Using Dolphin to run the GC version of Twilight Princess will allow TASers to exploit the long jump and early Master Sword glitches for some interesting runs.
I already started on a run of TP actually. There's a wip of the first 20 minutes, if you check the TP thread, though it's both outdated and needs to be completely restarted. Unfortunately though, i had to put it on hold because my computer just can't run it at a reasonable speed (~6 fps), and it's probably going to be able awhile before i can get the money to build a new pc. With any luck though, i'd expect to finish the tas sometime next year.

So SL decided to save time by using the Japanese ROM (significant drop in entertainment value for me, as I have no clue what is going on), yet purposefully lost time by "signing" the run? Interesting priorities...
Naming link SL amounts to 8 frames plus whatever is lost entering it instead of あ. We're talking ~1 second lost, get over it. By the way, there's no way in hell you'd know what was going on even if it was done on the NA rom. Literally everything is skipped except the intro. Nothing about the story presented in this run makes any sense at all. And even if it did, too bad, the japanese audience for tases is larger than the english speaking audience, so the japanese rom makes more sense if we want to make sure the most people can understand it.

I know this because I submitted TASes for these games.
Er, they shouldn't be on the list then.

You can't use the ocarina in the boss room. Yes. The door is blocked when you enter. You can't reach the door without leaving via death warp or save+quit (which doens't work in this case, since the wrong warp will just lead to a black screen).
