Huh? For the youtube movie linked, the audio desyncs from the video almost immediately. Am I doing something wrong here?

Is it normal for Nicovideo to have lots of text (mostly gibberish) stream over the screen at all times? It's rather annoying.

There are hacks like Item Abuse and VIP series that are way more well-designed than this one, and their TASes looks very amazing.
Could you give us a link to these TASes, so that those of us less versed in SMB editing can look at the difference?

I voted yes when I first saw this but the discussion is making me doubt that - this is a well-known hack but is it really a quality hack? It doesn't seem to be; and indeed, there are thousands of Mario hacks, several of which are much better written than this one. Unfortunately the forum doesn't let you withdraw or change your vote.

...so why don't we get that film from Nicovideo on this site? Surely it's possible to find the author somewhere?

Could you explain how the boss fight works? I thought he had more forms than that, so why does the ladder up appear in the middle of the fight? Is this memory corruption or something else?

It looks great. I've only played the PC version which is extremely different, I think I'll have to play this one too.

I'd reject any keyboard-only Tyrian TAS.
I wouldn't. Keyboard is one of the standard input modes of the game, so it strikes me as a valid approach. I do think a playaround is your best bet, because "maximum destruction" or "weapon hoarder" would probably be voted down by a lot of people as too arbitrary goals. Completing the game while showing off all the different weapons in the game would be fun to watch, surely more interesting than just maximizing speed.

Did you actually watch it? It's very extremely different from a standard SMB3 run.
Yes, it is different. It looks like it is not going as fast as it should for some arbitrary reason. That may be "extreme" but not in a positive way.

Well, we also have a Kirby run that jumps straight to the extro sequence from the middle of some level. So this strikes me as a valid method for TAS'ing.

Thanks. You know, you have a very fitting avatar to answer questions about this series :)

I'm curious why you bother to shoot the Tantalus Ray in the last level you play (Rome)? It would seem that the exit is accessible without doing so.

I love the parts where you're just surrounding by Vorticons (that kill you in one hit if they randomly touch you).

As before, I don't consider this an interesting category, and to the casual user it doesn't look meaningfully different from a regular TAS of the same game. Voting no.

Personal feelings aside, the first Keen trilogy was a major milestone in gaming on the DOS platform, and put ID software on the map. On the hardware at the time, games like these were commonly thought to be impossible. I feel that alone should warrant publishing this run.

This is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen :) Definite yes vote.

The goal is too arbitrary and while technically distinct, it is not visually distinct enough. Voting no.

It's not about whether the game is commercial or not; it's about the game's quality. Cave Story is not commercial, but it undeniably has quality. Syobon does not. I mean come on, I can draw better graphics in MS Paint with my eyes closed. Anyone halfway versed in a toolkit like Game Maker can hack together a game like Syobon in two or three hours. It's just that bad.

Very nice, I remember this game from ages ago. It is a surprisingly well-made game for its era, especially for an advertisement game. Good music, too (remember that this was in the time before sound cards became common!) Definitely a yes vote. (edit) remember that this game predates the SNES. Judging it by current-day graphical standards would be inappropriate.

Nice TAS'ing, but I still think this is a bad game choice. There are hundreds or thousands of indie games with better graphics and better gameplay.

Wow, you almost destroyed the game with so many glitches. Definite yes vote; I'm very keen on this run!
