So it's completely ok to show their games, but not their artwork (even though the games themselves show a thousand times more of the game artwork than some still images that are shown for a couple of seconds)? The rationale behind this baffles the mind. I don't even.
Add perlers here too.
1) Copyright law is very complex, and honestly rather stupid at times. I'm not an expert so trying to explain the difference is just going to lead to arguing and internet lawyering. 2) It was recommended that I ask other GDQ staff members for opinions so I did and that's the answer that came back. 3) This answer came from multiple staff members that I trust, and they took quite a while to chat about it and want to play it safe.

I tried to make the creeper look more textured, but with 4x4 dots I couldn't really make anything that looked good and not just dirty up the image. Since meat boy was listed specifically. As for ideas, are we still going for the romance thing in the 100 questions? Or are we just going to be doing stuff that's Twitch and gaming relaetd?

I like all these meme posts! Those should elicit some laughs from the AGDQ crowd (and the viewing audience). I will take on following up with GDQ staff on this (they are already aware of the concern). From my perspective, this is fair use via being a parody and because the artwork is not being sold, nor is any work reproduced in full in any capacity. We should probably stay away from trollface just on general principles and I don't want to deliberately attempt to attract unwanted attention in this area but I don't personally feel we should be limiting creativity due to fear of reprisal. As the primary organizer along with micro500 it will be my neck in the noose if this goes sideways so I have a substantial vested interest in ensuring we're acting in good faith.
I am no expert on this, but this is my understanding of the situation: Copyright reserves the right of the holder to copy, or create any derivative works based on the copyrighted material. That includes musical variations, artworks based on it, and any material that is using the copyright material as a basis. Memes, or even an incomplete reproduction still infringes upon this unless it's fair use. Charity, as far as I can tell with some quick research, is still a rather hotly contested issue since funds are still being raised. Basically, in a situation like this, it's a gray area that has no clear bounds, and after speaking asking the PR staff, we'd like to err on the side of caution because the grey area means that even if it was ruled in our favor, getting sued would be expensive and cause us a lot of problems. As such, it was recommended to me that we should stick to indie devs as opposed to the major franchises and, sadly, stray away from the futarama stuff. (owned by fox) edit: Basically, copyright law is very intricate and complex, and only recently a major ruling went out on fair use. But since we're riding a grey area, if we broght this issue up to a lawyer we'd probably get a response liken to "Hmm, that's an interesting case" which is code for it will be expensive.

So I've done this before, even on this door, but never managed to wedge Dart so far into the wall going through a doorway. Makes me wonder if there's other places where I could use this to save time or skip a trigger. There aren't many places where an npc is blocking something which is the first thing that comes to mind. Edit: Officially over a minute ahead of the WIP, and passed the RTA run.

Question: How does Brain Age interpret those images? In other words, what numbers do they correspond to? Can this be chosen somehow (other than, you know, using that misleading trick of drawing off-screen)?
On the first page xy2_ linked to a large series of posts going into that here

If you guys could try to reduce/eliminate those small segments before submitting the pictures, that would be really handy. I can/will do it if necessary later on, but I prefer to let you guys touch up your images to look best. I've updated the tools to allow you to generate the blue images above. The tools are now hosted on github: http://pjgat09.github.io/BrainAgeTools/. I will also update the link in the previous post.
Does this translate to just making the lines a bit thicker than the minimum of 4 pixels when doing slanted/curved lines? Because that's not a hard fix if so.

I'm still working on this. Just been in and out of the hospital recently, which is part of why I got started into TASing, I can put time into it in smaller chunks when this kind of stuff happens. I finished planning out Disc 2 which means I know what I need to buy in Lohan in Disc 1. So, I'm planning on going through the rest of Disc 1 and then figuring out what my plan is for Melbu Frahma which will put a large hold on progress as he's the final boss that takes 40+ minutes in RTA. Currently Disc 1 with the slow progress from medical issues is about 30 minutes in and working on RNG manipulation (again) for the first real boss. After that, it will speed up significantly, but I'm a good 45 seconds or so ahead of the WIP posted previously.

Continuing to work on stuff that's on the script. This is what I assumed you meant by "Why not Zoidberg?" Since it's the usual meme. Can be easily changed to actually "Why not Zoidberg" If you meant it literally. edit:

The problem with that is that the Vault is the upper layer of grouping—vaulted runs still exist in the same potential obsoletion chain as the Moons and the Stars, and goal choice might end up the tipping point that pushes a run into the Vault territory or out of it. We've had that happen. So naturally we shouldn't concern ourselves with rules specific for the Vault because runs aren't created to be vaulted—they end up vaulted.
I see what you're saying here but the way you word is is bothering me. I agree that the guidelines, in general, should match for Vault as other submissions, but I can see situations coming up that require specific rules for the Vault. I"m currently TASing a game I fully expect to wind up in the Vault just because of the game choice. In the case where a run isn't expected to be let into Moons but it's something you want to do anyway because you enjoy the run, you kind of are creating a run to get vaulted and a Moon would be a plus. In that instance having rules on Vault specific things isn't exactly a bad thing. I just don't see difficulty being something that needs to be applied to that.

If it's only 20 seconds and results in a hardlock, I would assume that NTSC-U is preferred. Also, isn't Coco the same as N-Gin?

Is it bad that watching this made me wish I still had my copy of Pocket Fighter (Super Gem Fighter) for playstation? Was a good watch, though.

This doesn't actually matter. You're arguing over something that isn't important at all. -The way that Spike wrote it is recognizable to anyone familiar with Tekken. -You admitted in the other thread you weren't familiar to Tekken so you prefer a different notation. -They both get the information across to people who want to know, and if someone doesn't understand what Spike's means, they can find out very easily. -Arguing over this is actually pointless. Stop telling people that they're wrong when the information is interchangeable.

That’s completely wrong. Write it properly. F, blank, F, F+1+4 held What’s Kuma’s move?
f,F+1+4 is standard Tekken notation for this move. Lower case of any direction means tap, Upper case means holding that direction.

Okay, that huge buildup into it recognizing it as a 9 and then marking it wrong is actually pretty damned funny.

I found this hard to watch for the entire thing. I'm someone who enjoys watching street fighter, but a lot of this just looked like normal play. (Context: I do follow street fighter, so while some of these are hard to do technically, they don't actually look a whole lot different from what good players of the game can do.) I feel like if you want to do a playaround with a game like this, and you don't have crazy glitches, mess around with the hitboxes. You can make crazy looking interactions in street fighter games where characters miss each other constantly when it looks like they should be hitting, or hitting people with hitboxes that don't look like they should work. The best example I can find is around the start of the round between Akuma and Rose where Akuma punches the wrong way at 12:40 and still hits Rose. I know why this works, but it looks weird, and is a good example of abusing the hitboxes. That kind of stuff can go a long way to making it more fun, I'd suggest working a lot more of that into the movie. Other than that, I have to agree that the Rose v Rose match really got dragged out a bit too long. Akuma probably wasn't the best choice to end on, as we saw him against the most CPU opponents and watching Akuma beat up on the CPU isn't really as interesting as some of the other characters. Things you did well and should do more: -Go through fireballs. Fireball invincibility is something that is pretty inconsistent thematically and it makes very little sense to viewers sometimes. Create that curiosity as to why fireballs aren't hitting you. -Super freezes AFTER the K.O. are always fun to watch, just don't do it every round. It's another example of something that obviously isn't supposed to happen since you're supposed to be locked out from input -Play around with hitboxes like you did at 12:40. Things to do better on: -Mirror matches are amusing but should be kept short. I would suggest less mirror matches, but still use a few just for the sake of silliness. -The Rose silliness was fun, but the double KO's made it drag on too long. It might work with a single double KO, but that many made it take way too long. -Try to play with the CPUs more, the cpu matches often just looked like a good player beating up on a CPU without a whole lot special going on.

http://tasvideos.org/Game/nes-bubble-bobble.html Came up on a simple google search. So if you're asking specifically about arcade version, no I couldn't find any. Just NES version. I don't know enough about the game to talk version differences, though.

Edit: Spike pointed out to me that testing Bios was a useless endeavor. Oops. Either way, still planning things out. Once I get Disc 2 and 3 preliminary routes figured out, I can go through with the rest of Disc 1 and have a finished product for that. I'm getting pretty good at TASing the first 30 minutes of the game by now too from all this testing.

Part 3 is done, I included up to the end of the Bale shopping trip because the next section is going to be a lot less talk talk and a lot more fighting. Link to video The Prairie is pretty straight forward. Early on in the game is the only time you'll see me using menu delay to extend the time until a random encounter until possibly much later in the game. This is a basic RPG trick, open the menu and you have a grace period after the menu is closed before you can get into an encounter. When used in the right spots, you can extend an encounter very far using this. In the cave in particular, this is very useful because when you ride the waterslide or jump across the rocks, your encounter threat is still increasing, even though you cannot enter a fight. This means if I charm potion before either of those, I'll get back to red arrow very fast and basically waste a charm potion, so I menu delay both of these screens and use the CP later. This means that I have exactly enough CPs to get to Bale without an encounter as well, a nice bonus. I pick up a Total Vanishing in the Prairie and in the Cave as well. These items will instantly kill any minor enemy. In the RTA route, these can be used to take out a very unpredictable enemy to make the encounter more safe. In the TAS, I plan on carrying these to the end of disc 2 to kill the magician bogeys as they are very annoying enemies with lots of health, high defenses, and just soak up a large amount of time in a required fight on the Phantom Ship. I should be able to get 3 of these before that encounter and kill all 3 of them before they get a turn. I open the chest with the bandana in it, even though it's basic equipment, because it lets me move the sallet from Lavitz to Dart. The sallet is a piece of headgear that increases magic attack by a good margin, making Dart do a good amount of damage throwing attack items until we get Rose who outstrips him by far. This is used in Urobolus to ensure we kill the boss before his third turn and save a large amount of time, but will also be very useful in Hoax. Urobolus was far easier to manipulate than Fruegel for mutltiple reasons. It's only one enemy, for one, so the turn order is much easier to find a favorable pattern, and also the RNG in this battle advances much faster than the Fruegel fight. I'm somewhat convinced Fruegel was supposed to be a secondary tutorial boss as his RNG advances very slowly and creates a more predictable attack pattern. From this point onwards, the bosses RNG advances at a much faster rate which is actually preferable for me since in most instances, delaying 2 frames before the fight will change the RNG. I had to delay 6 frames before Urobolus to get this pattern, the miss was a nice bonus but doesn't save any time. Bale is basically just cutscenes, but I skip going to the weapon shop and buying the upgraded armor for Dart because I don't need it with putting the Knight Shield on him. He'll have enough defense until I can manipulate Plate Armor from Greham which is an armor that you normally can't buy until Disc 3. The item shop trip at the end is yet another display of shopping menu hilarity. I buy 12 spear frosts used to kill the next 3 bosses and some of the encounters in Hoax as well as have one extra for the arena fight in Lohan. The 3 Meteor Falls can be used to take out Greham and Feyrbrand very fast when mashed to 268%. Progress when I hit Lohan will slow down as I need to plan out exactly how much inventory space I have extra through disc 2 so I can see how many wind attack items I can carry to the Grand Jewel fight. Normally I could carry a bunch, but with the extra items I'm already carrying, and the high number of items needed for the trip to the Bandit hideout, I might not be able to carry many. Even being able to carry 2 or 3 should allow me to skip his heal without having to resort to slow Dragoon animations, though. I'm still behind the RTA run at this point due to loading times, but I'm still confident I can pass it up even given the loading differences.
