Nice! I'll take a look at this as soon as i get home. Btw, are you sure taking the missile pack later is just slightly faster? Maybe it could garantee a wave of bugs...

Do you have any file with an attempt through norfair?

It seems going for early pb and kraid would cost around 23 seconds if i timed it right. Around 18 seconds for early pb and around 5 seconds (maybe more) for doing kraid's area without speedbooster. It seemd to me that varia suit + power bomb would save less than 15 seconds in Norfair which would make this route at least 8 seconds slower. I tried but couldn't test the difference between early missile pack and late missile pack on bubble room. Could someone take a look, please? Also, don't the strategies linked to charge and wave save enough time? I'll try to time the differences later.

I timed the Backtrack for the Early PB to be around 15 seconds plus the difference in the PB room because you don't have PB to blow the wall earlier and the difference in the next room till the activation of the door transition. If these two rooms are for example 3 seconds slower, then Early PB would cost around 18 seconds. Of course the PB will save some time in Norfair so if you consider that the backtrack would be less. Here is how i timed it: Red Brinstar Shaft up with CWJ till pre-pb-room 04:03:35 03:55:10 ----------- 00:08:25 Spiked room right to left: 07:17:73 07:15:25 ---------- 00:02:48 Brinstar Shaft Backtrack (The time it takes to go all the way down from the top less the time it takes to go all the way down coming from Noob Bridge) 00:09:67 00:06:23 ---------- 00:03:44 TOTAL 08:25 02:48 03:44 ------- 14:57 EDIT: Using JXQ's run i timed the backtrack to the Missile in Kraid's area as beeing 19 seconds and 51 frames. It's probably improvable, but it still seems more than it takes to get the PB earlier in Red Brinstar.

I really think it should be tested. When you fall from the left side to the right side, it's possible to have enough speed to reach the passage to the Missile pack faster. Also, when falling to the ground, you can morph in mid air to land a power bomb to open the shortcut in the left while bouncing to the right. That will probably make it faster. If possible to avoid the power bomb blast to kill the waver in the right, when coming back from the missile pack chamber you can use it to damage boost. Now, don't know if this is the case, but let's say collecting it later is 1 second faster, you can use this one second to collect maybe more than just one health in other place.

Yeah, what hero said. I compared the bkm file with saturn's rbo and his strategy was around 31 frames faster. Btw, are you going to collect the Missile Pack in the bubble room earlier to pick up the health drop from the waver?

Nice run so far dood, but why didn't you use the swing after unmorph trick in Red Brinstar shaft? Doesn't it save half second?

Thanks for testing. Man, 14 frames just in that area is great! These small savings here and there will make a big difference in the end. So you're going till Brinstar shaft and then decide which route to take?

So at this point i should ask, did anyone test if getting the Reserve Tank before the two Missile Packs is slower than the usual way?

The bugs need to be killed on the way to the missile and their drops picked up with grapple beam, but that shouldn't add more than a frame or two.
Just testing what you said. Killed the bugs and got the drops and didn't loose one single frame. smv

Wow! That was fast! So although the clock timer shows you have a 49:19 it's the same as you had 49:23 because the in-game time is the best you can get on Ceres, right? Have to say it feels weird to see that clock showing you lost time although you didn't. Knowing you didn't loose time, the clock doesn't matter.

Nice! Just remember to use the new version of BizHawk:

BizHawk 1.4.1 Released! No new cores or anything, but a solid maintenance release. The SNES core is much improved and it is highly recommended that you use this new release for SNES TASing. (Unfortunately there are sync changes). There is also many fixes/features for movie recording and lua. Full release notes. Windows binary
I was using TASMovieEditor for hexediting some stuffs, though it's the only one i heard about and i don't know if it works with BizHawk movie files.

I really don't think so. Managed to improve my skills a bit and learned some stuffs, but this game is way too complicated. I could try and help if i can, but i think an entire run is more suitable for a team.

Here is a nice one. smv I think a new 100% run is pretty good to go now. Does anyone have any plan on starting it?

Yup. I first tried what Cpadolf did, and iirc it was 2 frames slower. Then i managed to improve it by unmorphing earlier. I think it can be improved by maybe using memory watch for samus positions and stuffs like that, as what i did was mostly try different stuffs each frame.

I did a smv using JXQ's old 100% run v2 to compare with. The smv is an improved version of the realtime route that Cpadolf used after Plasma Beam. I got it to be just 3 in-game frames slower than JXQ's strategy going through the sandpit. Maybe you guys can find a way to make it faster which would make the realtime route at least equally fast to the in-game time route. If the difference is just 3 to 5 in-game frames, it could be interesting to sacrifice those frames for entertainment purpose. smv

I see. Shame you can't manipulate the lava and i was afraid you couldn't use the strategy i posted because of the bugs drops, but nice you can still use it. Here is another one. It's faster and looks better than the old one. If nothing faster is found... smv Edit: Question: Regarding that route change after Plasma Beam, i mean, going to the right through the sandpit instead of to the left like in the current run, how much in-game time this will save?

Here is another improvement: Definetely improvable, mainly if it's possible to manipulate the lava rising to be low when leaving the room. smv

Most of the things i've been testing is about in-game time and i thought the in-game timer was perfectly emulated by Snes9x... isn't that right? Edit: Managed to improve the PB room in Pink Brinstar a bit: smv Edit 2: Btw, it's possible to kill both hoppers without using any super and probably manipulate luck to get two super drops.

That's nice! It's Wave beam (+ Charge Beam + Spazer) making the difference. Also, here is an updated version of the smv. In the end of it, Wave + Spazer saves a bit more of time. It's possible to kill the hopper shooting diagonally down before morphing. smv

Shouldn't BizHawk movies be used now?
Pretty much what hero said. The computer i'm using to make these videos is very basic and doesn't handle BizHawk, unfortunately. I find snes9x easier to use and as it's just for demonstration movies, i think it's ok. I also think a new run should be done on BizHawk.

I believe I posted an smv similar to it many years ago, and if I recall it was indeed faster.
Yeah, i remember that. I couldn't find smv so i decided to try and make a new one. Don't know if Wave beam is helping there but it probably is.
