Wow, even though there is a chance this might be a aprils joke, I believe you. Looking forward to see a WIP of a by now true TAS-genius no matter in which game. You just manage to come up with crazy stuff over and over again, respect!

Wow, thanks alot hero! I see now how it works. Apparently the room was horizontally big enough to keep the drainer in the edge JUST save from the PB wave, which radius could only reach the needed PB blocks only. I already had suspected this, but never thought the distance of the drainer location could be far enough to save it from the PB-wave. Glad to be proven wrong in this case. :-)

Hero: Really? 0_0 You can destroy all PB blocks without hurting the drainer?? He is on the same height as the bottom row of PB blocks, which HAVE to be destroyed in order to do the spark, so he will be hit as well, as long as you won't bring him out of reach somehow. If you have a smv, please show how the heck you want to manage that without hitting him.

I wondered long about it, and really believed another flute can be found there. But seems like it's indeed just a gag. :-)

Wow, thanks alot for the bundle, hero! I especially liked the Missileshiner, even though its useless and would hardly save any time compared to walljump. But the only tech that appears to be very interesting and probably even faster is the X-Ray shinspark with the help of the frozen drainer. Too bad PBs would kill it while opening the passage to it, so leting it attach you and then lay a PB and quickly get it out of the reach would probably cost more time in the end anyway. Still might be interesting to test it carefully, as I have a feeling it might indeed be very close even that way. EDIT: Damn, I forgot that JXQ didn't have the Ice Beam when passing it on the way to Maridia, which would be the only option to shinespark to X-ray. Doing it from the bottom when returning from LN wouldn't work, simply because you would need to shot this 2 blocks to make it up to the door, and therefore destroy your Charge-gaining platform. Oh well, bad luck with it... Tonski: After getting more and more pissed with SM-any% I play with the thought to eventually continue the RBO run before the any% again. And maybe even during TASing of SMR-any%. But I can't promise anything, so it's better to just wait and see later.

"Hey Alter, alles klar?" :-P Very nice run! I especially liked the damage taking continuous mid-air jumping, and how you fought the last 4 or 5 Metroids (the ones that require around 30 Missiles to kill) by pushing them with the Screw Attack in a position so that you can shot them many times in a row. Also it was weird to hear the Screw Attack sound on some jumps althought Samus wasn't even doing a Spin-Jump. :-) I enjoyed watching this run and remembering old times while playing this game myself, and except the very random and hard to optimize first Metroid fights which might be slightly improveable, I couldn't see any mistakes at all. YES vote of course, and respect for doing such a good TAS on your 2nd attempt already, Alter!

Evilchen, in case you missunderstood, it sure is possible to execute the walljump in the place you tried. But as said, you just have to jump earlier and higher, in a correct position to make that walljump work. However I doubt it would be of any use, since using JXQs Grapple Beam variant will be somewhat faster in the end anyway.

Tonski: It was in Norfair, the big room with the green gate and the Missile, connected to the mainstreet room. evilchen: Hero is right about it. It simply don't work here because you 1. have too much momentum gained, and 2. too low jumping. In order to make this jump there, you must gain some falling speed before it, which isn't possible without actually jump somewhat higher and sooner before it. And apparently hero found one of my small timesaver in old MB room. :-) Good job! How is the progress btw? Did you reach Brinstar already?

I think it is one, compareable to the mushroom long-boost. At least the effect is pretty same, just with the help of the zipper instead. Xotic used this boost against me in a match race as well, and I was like WTF 0_0 the first time I have seen how fast it is when you actually play against it. :-)

Haha, moozooh! I wonder how one can't get this movies to sync when everything you need (including the right emulator through which all movies stay in sync) is in the archive package already...

OK, here my history of emulator movies and gaming: I discovered the emulation scene in around April 2000 with the ZSNES emulator. Around 1 year later after experimenting with the movie recording feature, I started to record my first small movies of all kind of shit. My first ever uploaded game run on the net, way before my TAS era here, was Super Metroid any% in 1:00, recorded in April 10th, 2002 on a DOS version of ZSNES 0.989c (my most favourite emulator that time). Till 2004 followed more zmvs of playthroughs on games I enjoyed very much in the past. My latest and by far best run on this old emulator was an improvement of Chrono Trigger 100%, recorded in January 2005, which didn't make it to zophar anymore though. However it's available on my site in the ZSNES section with all later runs Zophar didn't put up anymore. Then I found this site, and my first TAS, which in fact isn't even one :-P because I didn't know the rerecording/slowdown functions to that time, was Sim City recorded in February 16th , 2005 with a rerecord count of "0" (which the submission system didn't even recognize and put "unknown" instead :-P). 2 days later, after reading around on this site I finally found a (to me amazing and new) way to do rerecords and slowdowns. And I immediately tested it out by recording my first official TAS in just 2 hours of work, Super Street Fighter 2 - Super Battle with Feilong by just using savestates and almost no slowdown at all (I learned Frame Advance only around 3 days later). It went so fast and I fully learned TASing within 1 week after that. Great time to remember.

Toad? Are you sure? Take a closer look. :-) Koopa managed to outstrip Toad in the last 0,05 sec of the race with a spectacular long boost, which makes this video so cool. Lucky bastard! :-)

Yeah, I know both guys, and have actually played against xotic on zbattle a couple of matches some time ago (needless to say I got PWNED badly by him :-P). I think they are both among the best Mario Kart players around here today, and I'm pretty sure what you see in that video is all realtime stuff. Also hope to see the next WIP soon, Huffers. :-)

Hero, this was just because I knew the run will be very short, so I decided to make it 110% frame perfect, since it wasn't much work. Doing the same level on a nearly 4 hours long run would be nearly impossible as long as you want to have it finished within a year. If I would do one, I think I would also use the turbo button all the time to skip the book-big amount of dialogues, and only concentrate on the general moves to be frame perfect. As for me TASing it, I doubt I get the time for it in the near future. And if so, I would definitely wait until inichis SDA run gets uploaded first, and then do careful analyzes of the entire run to plan out the route and actions before starting the actual TAS.

OMG, the legend strikes back. :-P This is awesome news!! 5 more minutes improvement on the unimproveable?? I can't wait to see! And thank you very much to finally record it for SDA, there is no better solution than that. Looking very much forward to your progress, and best of luck to you for this run!

I wasn't heated up or anything, just said a possible reason why this happened. Sorry if it was wrong though. I noticed that some people complained about the need to use a torrent-system to get the AVI, so I decided to upload this run to archive.org as well, for a direct link to it if needed. http://www.archive.org/details/SuperMetroid_TASv2_100p_JXQ It can eventually also be used as a mirror-link for this site.

Yes! Of course a joke, but it would be much better to use the english version because Secret of Mana, as a big RPG game, has many text dialogues which should be possible to read for the majority of watchers. I would highly recommend to not use the japanese version, which only very few people can read. We have this problem with the Chrono Trigger run as well shortly, and I don't get why everybody is so obsessed to use a japanese version on this kind of games. We should aim to make our runs internationally enjoyable, which isn't the case by using a japanese version.

People who vote "NO" on runs like this are clearly people that knows nothing about speed runs, who are jealous, are joking or simply stupid.
I think this are just haters. They have a problem with either the run or the author. This is especially clear when no comment is posted after such a no vote, which is simply because there is no reason to do so, unless you are retarded and can't differ a top quality run from a bad one.

Very good job hero, this is a amazing strategy! I also think the 2-pack Phantoon route will be slightly faster in the end that way. Good luck on it.

It was interesting that you had trouble with Deejay- he's a tough nut to crack using Cammy, it seems. Thanks for the video. :)
No problem. Yes, Dee Jay is one of those fighters who often cleverly waits for his opponents to do the first attack, and then to counter them back. The best way to fight him is to attack him yourself and not let him play his waiting-games, since as a CPU he has much advantage in it.

...Dare I ask, would you be able to pull off something like that with Cammy?
Hmmm, not sure, because I'm not that good with her... But I might try anyways today evening since I have to go to work now. EDIT: Alright, just did the first attempt, and it worked pretty well. Only lost 2 fights but overall all special techniques and combos of Cammy worked out pretty well the way I wanted them. This attempt had both Ryu and Ken as CPU opponents, which IMO are one of the hardest overall. SSF2 - Cammy Not as good as the Ryu one but still worth a check to see a example how to play with Cammy. PS: She also has one of the best endings IMO.

Ok, I think I should share this one from my archives: After some Super Street Fighter 2 playing sessions I got a good rhythm in the fingers and decided to record another Super Battlle mode on max difficulty (8 Stars) using one of my favourites - Ryu! The movie went excellent and I managed to pass all 12 fights without losing even one! SSF2 - Hard Ryu PWNAGE!! Shows excellent techniques to use with Ryu (in realtime conditions) to win every fight pretty solid and without much problems. A must see for SSF2 fans!

Yes, I said that optimal charged Plasma/Wave/Ice shots do more damage than a murder beam if compared by damage per frame. BUT, in the MB-fight, if you use Murder Beam like the way hotarubi did (on the 3rd Phase only) it indeed saves around 8 sec, simply because the Murder Beam starts to do damage to MB right after the big Metroid drains him down, and all the time during the Metroid-refill-Samus scene till the kill of it. When you are able to control Samus again (with Hyper Beam), MB is already near 0 HP instead of 36000 that way, and dies around 4 sec later. And yes, the first half of the battle is faster to do with charged shots in any way. Thats why Murder Beam is only useful in the last half.
