From the little research I've done into the subject (mostly using the Cheats search), I think all the teams have the same tackling power. Slides do 3 points of damage and tackles usually do 9. Most of the teams have different HP, though, with W. Germany having the most.
Right, thats what it is then.

That's really interesting. I've never seen that happen. Does it only happen in versus matches, or have you had it happen during the tournament?
I'm not sure if it only happened in VS mode or also in normal. But I remember that it worked somehow, long long time ago though. It's reasons need to be analyzed and tested to know more, I didn't care that much about it though, as it's not my style to win a game like that anyway. :-)

I just finished watching the first one, and it was great. You're really good at getting those super kicks in with W. Germany. I find it hard to do that, so I don't really like playing with them. BTW, why did your cousin do those two own goals?
Thanks, we both have alot of experience in this game as we played it extremely often in the early 90's. Skills got a bit rusty, but the knowledge is still the same. I picked W. Germany because they have the best tackle power of all teams (you surely noticed that the Italian players got knocked down pretty soon, which weakened their defense and helped me alot to make the last goals during the match). For my playing style, the weak super shots of W. Germany don't make it up for that. The 2 self-goals my cousin did were because he tried to cheat so that they will count as goals against me. There is a chance to do so even by shooting in his own gate, but it is very hard and risky, thats why he failed there. And I would also be glad to play some matches against other players online, but I think there aren't any NES emulators available currently that would support that (like ZSNES on zbattle). Or am I wrong?

Alright, here 2 movies from my collection (both are 2-player movies of me against my cousin): Super Mario Kart movie in GP mode on 100cc, played through all 4 Cups And here the classical Nintendo World Cup: 2 very high quality VS matches on special surfaces Match 1: Very nice match on Sand Match 2: Sliding time! Extremely close and one of the best matches we have ever played on ice! Both matches show many great tactical tricks in defense and attack during the game. I'm always the 2nd player. Enjoy!

Hmmm, no, as far as I know the door always starts to the same time to blink, no matter if he throws refills or not at the end. And no, the backward jump of Torizo before the refill throw isn't avoidable in any way. Maybe the delay of it can be shortened a bit though, but I don't know. The difference is indeed strange, maybe you should review the fight one more time for mistakes you probably didn't notice at first? I can't think of a better solution currently...

I think I saved 10 frames on the exit alone by geting all the Missile refills during the fight so I could skip the exit refill-slowdowns there. Other than that I just manipulated him to throw refills as soon as possible and shot him on the first possible frames all the time. Thats all. :-) To be honest, I'm also bit surprised about the difference, if you did everything else perfect as well...

Great news, hero! Aiming to be done in just 2 weeks sounds too fast for me. But if you think to being able to optimize all the difficult and much in require to test parts in that time, then respect. Regarding Phantoon, I knew there was a possibility to 1-round him with 3 packs, by manipulating the refills right on the way of the Missile wave you do, but this would be too risky for me. Also doing so I think you will have to slow down some frames in the fight anyway, so geting the Missiles (if not caring about real-time) wouldn't delay the run too much anyway, and the 5 more Missiles can still be of use in the rest of the run, I think. Also I want to note, after recent tests, I noticed that you will have big problems passing the vertical Pirate room in Lower Norfair without HJ-Boots. Walljumping will require some delay to manipulate the Pirates out of the way, and a direct jump won't be high enough to lay down the Power Bomb. Because of this one room, I think it's out of question to get HJ Boots, at least if not aiming for realtime. You should really test this room yourself to be sure. Other than that, good luck for the next quests. Looking very much forward to see this run!

Almost 100 frames at Brinstar is already impressive, JXQ! How many ingame frames could you gain on the Torizo fight if comparing from the Bomb-pickup till the exit of the room after the fight? Looking very much forward to see this run. Good luck for the next parts! Tonski: I put RBO on hold for now, and also work on a (somewhat different in route than hero) any% run currently. Almost at Botwoon by now.

I'm a Rocky fan, though I haven't watched the 6th part yet. It comes on 8th February in our cinema. Regarding the older movies I think they are all very good and have their own pros and contras. My favourites are Rocky 3 and 4. R3 in great story and training scenes, R4 in best fighting scenes. Looking very forward to see Rocky 6, and my respect to "Sly" for still playing the role of Rocky after almost 20 years. This is just great.

Bisqwit mailed me the informations. After reading, I think they didn't realize what a TAS really is and confused them with real speedruns. Being a TASer only, I replied them to not being suitable for the interview and pointed to http://speeddemosarchive.com/ for a better place to look. PS: Willkommen im Club, creaothceann. :-)

I updated my rom (the same I used for 1.2) to 1.3 but it doesn't work, I don't know why... Is there something special to do to open a green gate from the wrong way ? I don't want to fight gold Torizo again, I don't have enough Power Bombs, and not enough life to continue so I must go back to the room where I can get some life (the blue one, after gold Torizo). But I just can't open that green gate from the right, although I started to speed boost before, maybe I don't have the right timing but if there is an easy way to do it, please tell me ^^ EDIT Lol... As I thought, just after I post this message I opened it, and even almot without running before >XD
Anybody else got the same problem with 1.3? Maybe I should note that you have to use a original, new version of Super Metroid (JU) each time you update the patch. Don't patch it over the older 1.2 version, which if you did explains the problem of 1.3 not working. And you skipped Golden Torizo? Mind to tell me how you did it? Because I say this is BS.

As moozooh (the spoiler :-P) said, this isn't the way it's intended. I recommend everybody to update to the latest 1.3 version if you didn't do so already. That way you not only have the (so far) cleanest and newest version, but could also tell if there is still any place where you could break to a item with this stupid Crystal Flash cheat. :-)

It's quicker to avoid refills and just use the charged shots instead. Every three super missiles against Mother Brain gains only a couple frames (I think).
One frame every 3 Super Missile shots compared to Charged Plasma. No need to sacrifice time at all for refills if it's only required for Mother Brain.

Tub: Something just gave me the feeling that it might be possible, and since Super Missiles have a extreme acceleration I already suspected that it could work, so I did test it. It's all a matter of timing. The Power Bomb has absolutely no effect on it. You have to make sure that the Super has enough room to accelerate and that it gets offscreen as late as possible by finding the right distance when shooting. That way it still catches the block. And thanks moozooh. Funny thing is, I never searched for this tricks directly, they all came over me in the game and forced me to "discover" them in order to survive in the runs I did, more or less. :-P

I'm sorry to not mentioning it before, but I wanted to keep it secret until the RBO release to show a new technique. But since it's out now, I should share it: http://www.metroid2002.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=161989#161989 You can get Spore Spawn's Super Missile without the need to Crystal Flash! This will save around 10-15 sec in a 100% TAS as well, so go for it JXQ. :-)

It was in Red Brinstar, climbing up the shaft to the elevator right after geting the Power Bombs. To save time I instinctively aimed to lay the bomb as soon as possible to open the door through which you have to go back later, and then killing the cacti with a charged shot for a unavoidable refill, but apparently it's still slightly faster to first kill it and then lay the bomb because the cooldown of it takes too much time until you can have a ready charged shot, which forces you to wait for the refill around 10 frames longer. Here a video for better understanding: http://rapidshare.com/files/12586782/SM_-_Red_Brinstar_Elevator_Shaft.avi.html And thanks for the WIP hero, except of the Ceres escape it looks very solid so far!

Wow, if you only had 1 frame lead at the beginning of Zebes, saving 8 more frames on the way to the morphball alone is very very good! I'm not even sure if I could improve this 8 frames in Zebes at morphball, if not counting Ceres. Will you post WIP's or do you prefer the "big release" only? Either way, best of luck to you! Maybe you find even more time saver somewhere, as I already noticed a slight move-technique mistake in my any% run after seeing and comparing to your test run, which I'm too far away to improve now. Hopefully this will stay as the only one in the entire run. >:-/

I don't remember them all by now, but I think most of them were in Brinstar and Crateria. I didn't noticed anything special in Maridia AFAIR. EDIT: Bob, your run looks really good so far, keep it up!

I definitely would delay Kraid after Ridley in your case, otherwise sacrificing time in WS due to lack of Speed Booster and having Gravity Suit early looks pretty pointless. Landing all 4 hits with PB/Wave combo on Ridley is pretty difficult, mostly because his tail will almost always block the bottom behind one. I had to heavily manipulate his position in order to hit him all 4 times which was by far the most difficult part in this fight. Hitting him 10 times in a row like that might be even more difficult, but hopefully still possible with careful planing. And of course having the HJ-Boots would help alot here since you will often require a high position to fully hit Ridley. And just for comparison: 1 PB/Wave combo (if hitting all 4 times) saves around 90 frames compared to 4 charged Spazer/Wave/Ice shots which would deal the same damage. 4*61 = 244 for Spazer, and around 150-160 frames between a optimal PB/Wave Combo. Therefore doing 10 Combos would cost around 25 sec compared to 40 sec if doing same damage with Spazer shots.

I'm back for a while. Hero, I'm glad you decided to work on another Super Metroid run. Your route is a very interesting one. I also considered to use a very similar one before, but later decided to go for Plasma anyway, mostly because it shows a more powerful Samus in the end and because the boss fights won't be too long that way. Due to my tests the total result for both routes is almost the same. Here my script file for both routes: Any% route comparisons between Draygon first (Plasma route) and Ridley first (Spazer route) And a couple of test smv's: Draygon last (Skip Plasma) route to go Draygon last (with Plasma delay, for faster Mother Brain fight) Both show that the Space Jump is of very much use in this routes. I think it saves more time just in this Maridia areas alone compared to the slight delay to get it. Skipping HJ Boots seems to be a more interesting option. Due to tests I got a ~700 frameds delay (with skip of the e-tank of course) in total, and it's indeed doubtful if this 700 frames can be catched up during the rest of the game, IF it wouldn't be for the big Shinespark through the large room before Draygon that easily saves this time and most likely even more. Without HJ-Boots you won't be able to walljump up the vertical room fast enough to keep the charge for the Shinespark. Non HJ-Boots Shinespark attempt to Draygon (failed) I was around 5 frames too late to start the Shinepark and can't see a way to cut them down. If it's possible, skipping HJ Boots could be a interesting choice (or if a Gravity Jump could work here at least, which I didn't test though), otherwise it's out of question as well. Even for the sake of comparison it would be very interesting to see which route (Plasma with Ridley last or Spazer with Draygon last) would be faster in the end, so I would be very interested to see what you, hero, can do with your route.

I'm back again! Much progress happened around the hack, I'm especially glad about the movie-walkthroughs you guys made. Especially Squ4ll-'s one was shocking to see as he breaked through even more areas I didn't intend one to do, so I updated the hack to v1.3, fixing all the other bugs you guys pointed out so far. I also updated the Honor List for Game Completion!

Yep. The day arrived for me to leave for a couple of weeks. I won't be able to post/visit here during this time. Good luck to everybody beating the hack and hopefully my help won't be needed untill then. See you later soon.
