Awesome TAS! My favourite levels were Mortons Castle, Vanilla Dome 3, Donut Plains 2 (what an awesome juggling of 5 or more items in the same time!), the Razor boss kills, Valley of Bowser 4 (great and tight moves even in the most narrow passages) and of course this awesome move through walls glitch that saved alot of time in many levels. After so many new tricks I have seen, to be honest, I thought the completion time would be even more faster than what it is currently but of course I don't know everything until the smalles detail to make guesses here. It looks extremely optimized in every level and I honestly couldn't see any possible improvements here. Voting YES with a Star of course. Great job Fabian!

The thing about the TASes is just a gag, I mean in a mathematic way only. Assuming all TASes are always of the same game and the TASer are all same fast in creating them no matter how many times.

How about this: 2 TASer can create together 2 TASes in 2 days. How many TASes can be created by 3 TASer in 3 days? :p

Connect Four is probably another popular game that could be solved completely. However I'm sure there are some other games that will never be solved completely like Chess for example. It offers so many variations that not even the fastest computer in the world even after 100 years will be able to calculate all possible moves in the game.

I can't give you a exact hint where the missing guards are since you didn't mention which you have already found. But in general there are always 3 Guards in each Sector (Brinstar, Crateria, Norfair and Maridia). If you came to the room with the guard earlier (no matter if disarmed or not) it will be marked with a Chozo Head on the Map. Use this to see which ones you already have found on the maps. The Guards are more or less ordered in the left, middle and right position of each sector-map.

The first Ridley kill was more a test TAS to analyze the possibilities in LN without optimizing too much. This one is definitely the final attempt which is now 100% optimized (or at least as good as I could do). The result looks pretty good now and I'm sure the energy will easily suffice for the LN escape.

I'm still fighting Ridley. It turned out that it's extremely difficult to hit him with the Wave-PB Charge all 4 times in one turn because of his damn tail that almost always blocks the 4th projectile (bottom one from the back). Nevertheless I made myself the goal to still get all 4 Wave-PB Charges I have fully in without delays but this works only if you can manipulate Ridley to move in the exactly needed direction but on the other side always keep distance of him to not get damage on Samus. So far I managed to fully hit him with 3 Wave-PB Charges. If I get the last one in the rest of the fight shouldn't be a big problem except of triggering Ridleys KO-Grab as fast as possible. I hope it won't take too much time for me to escape LN and finally release the 3rd teaser. :-)

Probably by using some cheat codes, not sure though. Only thing I can say for sure is the vid is not from the SNES version in which this definitely is not possible on legal way.

Congratulations Italy! They don't always played the best soccer but they played very clever with a very good defense and a excellent goal keeper. I'm glad for them to finally win the Cup after this legendary final in 1994 where they tragically lost against Brazil in the same 11-meter shooting by a miss shot of the possibly best player that year: Roberto Baggio. As for Zidane I just can't understand how a world class player like him could act like that in his last match of his great career. It's just unbelievable and I'm sorry for him it happened like that. All in all I think this World Cup 2006 was one of the best of all time with only the absolute top teams left in the quarter finals (except Ukraine) and many great matches till the end. It was a great time to follow it!

Congratulations to Germany for the 3rd place with a 3-1 win over Portugal. Except of the very close and unlucky loss against Italy I think Germany was the best Team in this Cup. Klinsmann did a awesome job by building the team up like that in only 2 years. I really hope he will stay as the trainer since there is no other man with such a motivation to do this job that great like he did. Tomorrow is the final between Italy and France and I hope we will see a exciting and entertaining match like it always was in the past comparisons of this teams.

Saturn, SDW and SDW - The Legend Continues are the same game. We only have one accepted SMW hack.
I have tried both hacks and Super Demo World v1.00 isn't the same as SDW-TLC. The first levels I tested were different and most noticeably the World Map isn't changed in SDW 1.00 at all.

I guess my question is this: what's wrong with the system we have at present? If you want to introduce a hack to the community, make a thread. If you want to TAS a hack, ask Bisqwit either in the thread, in a PM, by e-mail or via IRC. Good hacks almost always stick out of the crowd and I don't think it's hard for Bisqwit to see what hacks should be accepted and what shouldn't. Borderline cases are rare. In my experience, if Bisqwit doesn't know the original game very well, he will ask for help from people on the site (as in the case of Metroid Legacy, where a lot of people recommended it to be accepted).
We already have a thread in which I even offered a demo to show how variating and entertaining a TAS for Redesign could be. We discussed this problem in this topic without any progress and we also asked Bisqwit in IRC about this but since he don't know this game well there is only a way to contact someone who actually does (like BoltR for example). It's obvious that Metroid Redesign is the by far best hack for Super Metroid so far. It's just not well known yet in our community because of its recent release and because not many have played it yet and therefore don't know the quality of it.

Street Fighter 2 is a good choice for a 2 player VS match. I tried to perform it on Super Street Fighter 2 in a tournament mode about a year ago. It was too difficult and time consuming that I cancelled it for now. The WIP can be seen here (only 1st round matches completed): http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/927/SSF2_Tournament%20WIP%20by%20Saturn.smv Dromiceius did a complete tournament for the same game too: Guess who will win!?

It seems metroid redesign is the superior one so it should be accepted and legacy should not be allowed.
Legacy already got a special permission in the Rules. I think accepting both hacks (Legacy and Redesign) would be the best solution, otherwise as moozooh said TASvideos will miss a entertaining TAS for one of them. Also there is already a permission for 2 hacks from the same game (Super Demo World, and SDW - The Legend Continues) although they are not that different (especially in physics) as the mentioned Super Metroid hacks. So what is the difference in this case compared to the Mario hacks?

Only if you play fullscreen. Do most people do that? I know I never do that in any emulator...
I always do. It's much more comfortable if you can see everything in big size and it's not straining for the eyes compared to a small screen. I couldn't imagine to make ultra optimized TASes without a fullscreen mode.
moozooh wrote:
Well, if you could drag it, that would be enough, IMO (you're not going to observe every single corner of the screen that closely, are you? ;) ).
Of course not. But sometimes it still helps to check the corners in critical situations to get a better overview for the planned moves. Draging the panel to a good position in every situation may become annoying after a while though.

Another thing is to make a little (about 8—10 strings tall) always-on-top floating panel looking like this:
--------------------
|  name1  || value |
|  name2  || value |
|  name3  || value |
|  name4  || value |
|  name5  || value |
|  name6  || value |
|  name7  || value |
|  name8  || value |
|————————————————————————|
|   ADD     REMOVE |
|  RESET     HIDE  |
--------------------
…where name* is the alias of the address, about 10 characters wide (ie. "lag countr"); value is its value refreshed every frame. Pressing "ADD" must bring up a memory watcher window, where you choose the address and write an alias for it. "REMOVE" must ask you which of the /name+value comb./ to remove. "RESET" resets the panel and "HIDE" hides it. Without a panel like that, I consider every emulator to be totally antiergonomic.
Nice idea moozooh, but unless this panel is transparent it would sometimes disturb if you need to watch the values all the time and still want to see the full screen. The display of the adresses while watching is just fine the way it is currently. When optimizing a run frame by frame you often have to watch very closely to details in the game (best in fullscreen mode) and the adress-values in the same time every frame to compare the gains or losses. With a non-transparent panel this wouldn't be that comfortable IMO.

Not really important but that is something I missed on the newest snes9x too. Halamantariels suggestions are really good and I definitely like Option #1 more as I also use some specific adresses to TAS which are sometimes annoying to select over and over again manually. Not a big problem but would be very handy to have such an option. Aside of that I would also suggest to add hotkeys or hardcoded keys/combinations in the new version to enable/disable the 8 sound channels which would be especially good to create music videos by disabling the background music and mixing another in without deleting the original action-sound.

Congratulations Italy, they just won the semi-final against Germany with a very beautiful Goal and a surprisingly aggressive style compared to the matches before. It was very unlucky for Germany though because the 1-0 happened just in the 119th min with only 1-2 damn minutes till the end before the 11-meter shooting starts in which Germany definitely would have the better chances to win (they have never lost a 11-meter shooting in the history of the WM till now). Now I think Italy will win the Cup if they keep this performance in the final.

Yes, if I will TAS this hack I will do a any% run. I haven't continued to work on it yet because of the RBO run and because I would firstly like to know whether this hack gets a special permission on TASvideos. If not it wouldn't be worth the big work.

Bob: I would do a any% TAS especially because this route will allow many great sequence breaks SM-Redesign offers. I think it's faster to run as close to the red doors as possible to (as Atma said) increase the fire rate and cutting the travel time of the missile till the door to open it earlier.

You need a headered ROM of Super Metroid (JU) if you want to use the 1.1 patch I linked before. Also be sure to use nitsujas Snes9x v1.43 improvement9 version to playback the movie.

Sure, here you go: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1318/SMR_v1.1_test_Saturn.smv Recorded on SM Redesign v1.1 patch which you can download here: http://drewseph.zophar.net/Metroid_Redesign_Headeredv1.1.zip It also works on the newest v1.6 patch as well but since the crawler has less HP than in older patch versions it looks a bit strange when Samus shoots him further althought he is already dead. Luckyly even this didn't cause a desync. :-)

Here is a AVI demo of a test TAS of SM Redesign till the walljump boots, encoded in x264 format: http://drewseph.zophar.net/SMR-test_Saturn.avi You can use VLC Media Player to playback it correctly. I especially recommend the vid for the judges to watch and hope it will ensure you that SM Redesign definitely makes a great and entertaining TAS and the hack is worth to accept on TASvideos.

Actually the team that mostly played fair was Germany. The referee was objective. Ballack didn't do anything bad to get a card or whatever. Also don't forget Adrianos dive in hope to get a 11-meter shot without reason. This was not fair. Today France played a excellent game with a deserved win over Brazil IMO. England VS Portugal was a big disappointment though. The match was on a pretty low level.
