I just want to say that Tornado doesn't keep it max speed all the time as you need to gain acceleration first. It will depend on how long the traveling room will be. There will sure be cases where the wheel (which keeps max speed all the time till you stop it) is a faster alternative but of course you have to calculate in the changing-ability times and possibilities to see if it's worth the change. This exactly will be a pain to figure out when TASing this game. As for the Boss-Tower or King Dedede the Hammer would definitely be the best choice since it does the greatest damage (together with Stone) which I think will be worth the switch. I think a improved TAS of this game will be interesting to watch in any case.

The AVI is encoded using the x264 codec which is also used for many AVIs on this site. If it doesn't show anything simply install the FFDShow decoder which is recommended by the x264 developers to playback this format.

Here is a AVI of this short movie I encoded a while ago: http://rapidshare.de/files/20844811/SSF2_TimeChallenge-WR_by_Saturn.avi.html In the Time Challenge movie my goal was to knockout the opponent as fast as possible no matter how boring or repetitive the combos would look. Due to some testings Zangief turned out to be the fastest character for a quick KO (I'm not 100% sure though). Dhalsim was a good opponent because he has not a good defense so the hits hurt him more than most other fighters. Got a time of 5,902 sec and I don't think it can be improved by more than a view frames (if not at all).

I couldn't complain about the ingame savepoints. Sure there were not many of them but there were always some right before a difficult part or a boss. It would be no problem to beat this hack without using Emulator tools, it's just somewhat harder and requires some practice on some parts to pass.

Well I saw the SF Zangief vid and I Love it! I allready downloading this one, I'm a SF fans about 18 years! so I've been practicing all the time. I wonder if we can play some online modo to test our abilities... we'll reading each other....
I'm glad you liked the movie, thanks. However I'm not very interested in playing SF online currently as there are other projects ahead waiting for me. Maybe some other time.

By the by Saturn, the movie won't let me load savestates I make while watching your movie. It keeps telling me that the save isn't from the current movie, despite having made it just a moment before. Since it's 15 hours long that, uh, kinda sucks. :)
Strange, It works fine for me like on any other game. Did you hard-patch (with a ips patcher) the ROM or do you use the original ROM only temporary patched on the fly through Snes9x (soft-patch)? I recommend hard-patching in any case as it is what I did and everything was flawless (incl. loading savestates) like with a original ROM.

With only two energy tanks you will have 299 points of energy. MB's attack takes exactly 300 points of energy, and is uninterruptible, so you don't have the ability to do crystal flash in the middle of it.
Thats interesting. I don't think the crystal flash would stop the damage but it could still heal you during the damage of mother beam so you could probably survive it even with 2 tanks (haven't tested though). A CF would require many Ammo items though so it's definitely not worth to use in a speedrun.

I first guessed a sub 1 hour any% run would be possible, but thinking of the difficulty, the many morph ball mazes, many water rooms you have to pass without gravity and the hard to kill enemies not to mention the at least 2 times bigger route to go I would doubt a sub 1:10 run is possible at all.

Very strange. You could at least find out if the ROM got patched at all. If it's patched then the size should increase to 4 MB instead of 3. Also you can see it clearly when you check the jumping/falling speed of Samus. If the ROM is patched correctly Samus should jump and fall much faster than in original one. Also the colour of the text-messeges in Snes9x should be white not yellow and it should say good checksum. And last be sure to use correct sync settings. I don't know if the header would change something though, some said it doesn't matter for emulators anyway.

Saturn: Always desyncs for me. :( I'm using the headered ROM (CRC32 = D63ED5F8) and soft-patching.
Did you use the patch that is included in the zip with the movie-file? If you use the actual one on drewsephs homepage the movie will desync. The original ROM to patch should be the same one JXQ used for his 100% TAS for example. You can compare it while loading the smv. I used IPSWin to patch it if it makes a difference. EDIT: Tried the soft-patching method and for some reason it doesn't work at least on Snes9x-v9. You have to hard-patch the ROM using the tool I linked above or Lunar IPS. Just make sure you made a backup of the original ROM first.

Alright, I finally beated this hack. Got a awefully time of 12:59 and collected 71,6 % of items. Recorded a movie on Snes9x v1.43 improvement9 during this first-time playthrough just for fun. If you stuck and don't know where to go next just check it to get the solution, however note that I searched around alot and did unneccessary detours all the way because of the lack of experience which costed alot of time. The movie was recorded by using the v1.0 patch of SM Redesign which I have included in the zip with the smv movie file. You have to use this patch in order to playback the movie corretly without desyncs. Get the movie here: http://www.freewebs.com/saturnsmovies/miscellaneousfiles.htm

Hmm, I can't understand how walljumping up this room is so hard. If it is for you then you probably don't know how to walljump correctly. Just practice it.

I recorded a 100% movie-walkthrough (not a TAS) of this game 2 years ago. Requires ZSNES v0.989c to playback correctly though. Got a time of 15 hours before the final boss. Check the ZSNES section to download the movie.

JXQ: Trust me this hack is awesome! It definitely won't continue the way you described it. Do yourself a favour and get surprised over and over while playing further. The best and most amazing hack I have ever played so far which brings back memories of playing Super Metroid the first time again. Its a great feeling I missed so long! :-) PS: I just have a dinner break from work, will be back in about 5 hours to continue this awesomeness!

This run sucks badly. The Bowser fight was terrible and boring, the Big Boo fight was atrocious and the gameplay overall was just too sloppy. Also you required far too much time to complete such a bad Fabian. I add another fat NO vote without a Star for this awfully run. You should really learn how to do Fabians first before submitting them here, JXQ.

Saving the animals is nice for a 100% completion but if the in-game timer suffers a 1 min loss especially from the magical 39 to a boring 40 it is clearly not worth it IMO. In-game time is everything! :-)

You should know that snes9x already has a mechanism of enabling/disabling individual sound channels.
This is twice good news. Then the only thing left is to just add hotkeys or menu-options to be able to switch the channels directly in Snes9x when running because not everybody who don't have programming knowledge would understand how to do otherwise.

Thanks for the code fabian. I would like to suggest to add a system where the user can decide himself which channels to enable and which to disable just like in ZSNES (its's more user-friendly and handy this way). It would require 8 more hotkeys but with the combination of the shift button for example it surely would be possible to find some room there. It seem to be one of the last major features Snes9x is missing for now.

The AVI plays just fine for me (no errors or frame drops) and I must say it's very well encoded for this small size with a balanced quality even in critical parts like the raining in Cebes at the beginning of the game. I use ffdshow decoder that is suggested by the x264 developers btw.
