No its a Reverse Boss Order and Suitless run. The hardest possible run to pull off. My goal is to break the 1 hour barrier, it will be hard to be much faster than this only because of the entire Maridia and Mt. Doom for example.

No. I think I will only have one reserve tank which I got in Brinstar (right in the clip) simply because the one in Norfair would require aditional energy refilling which costs time. Basicly I will have 7 or 8 tanks in total.

Yes, thats what I did. The message screen doesn't cost any in-game time no matter how long its up anyway. Breaking into lower norfair is the most difficult thing which will require every single tank I will collect. However I tested it and 7 tanks are enough if played well. I will try it with even 6 to save some detour time for another tank. Lets see if it works in the ultimate optimized mode.

I plotted all maps and items (and also how many available for each sector) myself on paper in the 90's so I can use them now. Also my Super Metroid Guide-book shows all the maps. But thanks for the link.

Spoony Bard: Yeah I know, thats why I made this clip to not let you wait any longer :-) Angerfist: The thing is I needed a Super Missile in any case and this was the only situation I could get one without much delay.

I'm now right before the Speed Booster and reached this location with only 2 Energy Tanks during the Heat. Now I need to refill my Energy on this flyig Red 5-pack creatures. Here comes the power of luck manipulation in question to only get the best energy gain with every kill (aside with the Missiles fill-up). I decided to make a small movie-clip containing a couple interesting parts to demonstrate some nice techs and the speed of this run. http://rapidshare.de/files/8967497/Super_Metroid_-_Speed_Demos.avi.html Enjoy!

Something similar happens to me when I pause the emulation at Turbo-speed but this is only because of the turbo mode. Make sure you have "auto frame skip" and "100% emulation speed" before using Frame-Advance. Then it should normaly work. Otherwise your computer indeed sucks.

Btw, Phantoon first in an "any%" is not faster, even though it was thought it would be over at metroid2002, it's been tested thoroughly.
Really? Can you give a source/link where we can check the results of the testings? That would ease my work on a any% run enormous.

Don't get me wrong. Of course I still optimize the run frame-perfect as good as I can, I ment I don't take the effort to seek for improvements after I did a move I think is the best in this case and I don't compare every step I did to Michaels run. The quality and speed will be not worser than Michaels run but I can't guarantee improvements all the way using this method (which would be minor anyway). Oddity: It is only for this special run, the any % run will be more serious anyway. Fredrik: You got it! And yes, I would make Phantoon first in any%..

Well, I decided to change my run a bit. Before recording a any % run I will do a different - never shown in a movie before - run. It's for sure the most crazy and insane run you can perform in this game (much harder than a 14 % run for example). I will let you guess what kind of a run I try to pull off. My goal is to still beat the game in less than 1 hour even in this mode. I also decided to not take that much effort for frame-optimizing anymore as it would just be too long and too boring. I understand now what you ment, Highness. And about the WIP, don't worry. You will definitely get one before Christmas. I'm in Norfair already but I don't want to spoil the surprise until I complete the most insane part.

If you gonna vote "no" for a movie, why submiting it at all then? I wouldn't submit one at all if I knew its bad.

I would never vote for my own movies as it would just spoil the real poll because its clear that every author would vote yes to his own movie even if it sucks. It's not the authors but the watchers job to decide about the movie.

Just add support in the emulator for playing movies directly from a zip. Then rename all the .zip to .tas and have the emulator support that as well. *pokes nitsuja*
You should be glad with what nitsuja already contributed to this emulator to make it one of the best and most complete in movie recording. It was surely much work and I thank him alot for that.

Graveworm: 1. If you are that good in this game I don't see a problem why not to contribute your skill with a movie to show. There is no reason not to use a Emu as its much more handy to playback and to make AVIs than anything else. Also we make such movies for entertainment not for competition on SDA so it doesn't matter. 2. Of course you can make a lot of rerecords and then remove them. Thats the reason you can never proof that a emu run is legit. I record this movies to see and compare my own skill and to try improving myself in this game so it would be pretty pointless of me to cheat here especially when I record a TAS for this game anyway. I would always be glad to see some sub 40 min runs if someone with the needed skill plans to record one...

I did another any% speedrun and managed to improve my final time to even 0:44 min! http://www.freewebs.com/saturnsmovies/snes9xmovies.htm In fact I was only 15-20 sec away of 0:43 which is annoying because I did a unnecessary error at the Metroids (one of them grabbed me) which probably costed me this 15 sec for 0:43 :-( so maybe I will try to improve this time in the next days. Otherwise the run is very good done.

Oh... Didn't knew the Tail damage depends on the difference between the max and min HP, so thank you too for this discovery, you're welcome!

Silver Earring only ups your max HP by 25% and is irrelevant to the Dino Tail as its pure physical. The Power Scarf ups your strength by 4 which will increase the Dino Tail damage a bit, thats the idea.

1. Costs time 2. No need against Lavos using the Doom Sickle Strategy

Definitely the final bosses of Seiken Densetsu 3, especially the "Dark Prince" who casts Death or status decreasing spells on you to kill you in one hit even with full HP if you are not careful. The music is also awesome and long there. Also: * Chrono Trigger: Lavos Core * Super Metroid: Ridley (he was a real pain the first time I battled him) * Secret of Evermore: Last Bosses Showdown (without Atlas glitch a torture) * Super Mario Bros 3: Bowser * Darkwing Duck: Steel Beak (a pain to shot him out of his coward-room without knowing the strategy)

Very entertaining movie! The backward-glitch was impressive and even in the auto-scroller levels it was thoroughly entertaining to see so many different moves and tricks that were all close to death. The graphic is phantastic compared to NES which makes this game completely different in the eyes. Good job nitsuja! This movie deserves a clear YES even if its not a original game but because of the backward-glitch and the very beautiful graphic, not to mention the quality of the run.

I shaved of 28!!! more frames (1/2 sec) alone in the room with the shooting-blocks (the one after the missile pack) by using a insane and unbelievable strategy to get up there much faster. Total lead 84 Frames now. I will check some last variations to possibly save even more frames before recording further. Sorry for the low progress, I had absolutely no time for recording in the last days.

Great work hero, a complete Chrono Trigger run of high quality speed in only 2 weeks, respect man. I'll check it out. EDIT: Watched it. The biggest error I saw there was that you took the "Toma's Pop" to place on his grave in order to open the Giant Claw hole. You don't need to do this. Even if there is no hole before you go to his grave, you can still enter it. Here you can save your first 2-3 min! The leveling up location you choose was a bit surprising but after more thoughts a good choice as you can kill all of the enemies with one "Lightning 2" which saves time. The lavos battle rocked badly. I knew the Doom Sickle makes that much damage if both characters are dead but I never thought it would be a rational choice to use it it against Lavos. You save a lot of time here as Magus don't need even a sec to pull of his strike. In the Lavos Core battle you could as a variation also try to use Aylas Dino Tail at the very beginning as she only has 1 HP at this moment for best damage which should do around 2000 HP to dispatch the left bit in one hit (if not equip her with a Power Scarf instead of a Silver Earring to be sure). Also I noticed you have Magus with only 15 Speed, I guess you should save one more Speed Tab to get the optimum 16 on him which will definitely save you some seconds in the Lavos battle. All in all a great run and I only wait for the the final version!

The first WIP will be after the Chozo statue fight. Reading the previous posts wouldn't hurt as well since I mentioned it already.

I know. I will test more when I'm further in the run. For now I only had to clear the 2nd Missile problem which I won't take now.
