I agree with foda, a perfect race means that you will overlap the other cars anyway and attack them anyway. Best thing would be if you could manage to overlap all cars (even the 2nd place car) on 150cc. And yes, it's very hard to optimize this game, much harder than F-Zero because of the power slide and other special moves F-Zero didn't have, and I still needed 13000 rerecords for 2 min to optimize everything in F-Zero.

A good question that shows that you think while watching the movie: The secret is you can run faster if you have the Spear equipped. The same is with Bazooka. Swords and Axes slow you down a bit. Switching costs about 30-40 frames but I save much more time during the speed later. The other advantage of the spear is that you can hit more frequently than with the axe (usefull against bosses with many HP) since the axe is heavy, and also spear is the only weapon in which you make a small step foreward during hitting while other stand on one point at this time. This step saves also some frames of move progressing since I do both in the same time. Why Horn Spear instead of Lance or Bronze Spear? Because Horn Spear is the weakest of all Spears which is required for the Atlas glitch to work longer. Later in the last boss fight I have even to switch to the "Bone Crusher" (weakest weapon) since this is the only one that lets me keep the attack value negative to the end.

Man, as I said before those who know and have played this game will see how high the skill is. Its not just driving through without crashing, bouncing on cars or drive out of the road, its a very carefully calculation with sense on every move. Just try to do it that close. No chance by far, my promise.

Defeated Sterling and Mungola, and returned to Tinker to get the Windwalker first time. The Sky Tower was pretty challenging and costed me some time to optimize it. Also the Mungola fight was very optimized. Now comes the nice sidequest part where I have to get the Items for Tinker to let him complete his invention. Udated to WIP 11 www.freewebs.com/saturnsmovies/snes9xmovies.htm Time under 100 min at Windwalker.

The first courses are not that entertaining like the last courses, because they are very easy and the opponent cars don't have the aggressive driving style like in the later courses (not many cars in one point and changing the driving line often)
  • The most entertaining courses IMO are course 5, course 7 and course 8.
  • The most boring course is by far course 2 since there are very long straight lines and not many cars. Course 1 is also not the best.
For those who think its boring just skip the first 2 courses because from course 3 on its much more exciting and entertaining, guaranteed.

i think it could have been faster if you avoided bumping into walls at all, and avoided sand area to increase the distance you get on speed boosts
Wrong. Believe me I haven't done 13000 rerecords without reason. Bumping into walls costs only a little speed which you regain very fast again, but the shortcut you take will save you more time. I tested really every possible combination doing a savestate on a specific frame, then trying to do another corner move and doing another savestate in the same frame and compare this 2 states to see exactly on which corner move the car is more ahead at this savestate. Taking the shortcut through sand with boost is definitely the best choice, I tried every possible variation. You don't lose any speed during the boost on sand and win much more time than the little shorter boost-duration I get there. After all it's a World Record time so I couldn't just do such mistakes you point out. I agree this movie is not really entertaining because I just did 1 course. But it could be if we could do WR times on other courses. Maybe someone will continue this one on Big Blue someday... I don't know

Wrong. After c6 black releases the knight on e8, following by the rook on f8, knight h7-f8, bishop g8-h7 with possible check and finaly the queen on h8. So this pieces are not dead, it only needs some time to release them. Your solution is right. I wonder if you really did this all by yourself. A side question: What is your current Elo (playing strenght) Deviance?

I figured out that the desyncing frame depends on what frame I load my last savestate to the new fcm file. For example: If I create new fcm file (record movie) and load my last savestate on frame 0, it desyncs in the last corner of course 3. But if I load the state in frame 100 it desyncs in the middle of course 5. I will serach for the best frame to let the desyncing happen as late as possible. There is hope... EDIT: Found one of the correct frames, now the movie works till end of course 6 (where I stoped before) perfectly without desyncs! Now I can also point out the times: Course 4 - 43 sec remaining Course 5 - 48 sec remaining Course 6 - 39 sec remaining Maybe I will complete the movie tomorrow. Thanks god to save my ass, I did 10 backups now :-)

Thank you guys. I tried the link and canceled the movie at the last point before the desync to enter it as the last backup file. The full movie without canceling I entered as the broken file. This is the messege I got: "Your backup file can not satisfy the requirement of 100 bytes of common context! In fact, this backup file can't help you at all!" I guess my problem is different, since I replaced the whole movie completely. it has nothing to do with a wrong savestate loading. I will experimenting to see what I can do.

I made the biggest mistake I could do during recording: I forgot to backup the fcm file and accidentaly instead replaying it (for testing) I clicked "record movie" and instead clicking on cancell I clicked "OK" very fast without thinking about it like someone have controlled me during that, I can't believe it.. My long time worked out movie in which I already completed 6 courses (only 2 left) is now replaced. Goddamn, 1 click and all the work is lost... Luckyly I had some savestates at the end of course 6 and I just loaded this state during recording and voila it worked. I hoped that the full movie will be playable on this new fcm file I replaced with my old one so I started a run from beginning with speed up. The first 2 courses worked well (I begann to feel relieved) but in the last corner of course 3 comes the shock: The movie goes out of sync and the car crashes in a tree out of the road. Everything from there seems to be lost now. The movie of the original fcm file never desynced no matter if speedup or not... I really wonder about this because the input is always the same in both fcm's but the new one desyncs strangely. Can't understand why. Is there still a way to make the movie staying in sync? I don't want to redo all courses afterwards again. Please help me, I'm so disappointed, how could I do such a stupid thing :-(

OK, as promised here we go with the next study of me made in 06.12.2002: White moves and makes a forced mate in 13 (You have to find the correct winning line, the mate in 13 will be reached by itself then) Note that black will play instantly Rd7 no matter if you capture the rook or not, following with Bd8 and releasing the rook with Re7 (or if you capture him with c6 and releasing the knight) and slowly all other pieces, so you don't have much time to win with white here. I think Deviance is the only one who could theoretical solve this one without help of chess-programms. I gave this position to a 2100 Elo chessplayer I know and it took him almost 1 hour to find everything correctly, so good luck to those who are still dare to try it by themself.

I hope I'm right: 1. Rb4! Qc8 (taking the rook will lose to Nc6+ with winning the queen 2. Rb8! Qh3 (Taking is impossible again) 3. Rh8! Nh4 4. Rxh4 and now the queen has no escaping square without beeing attacked by the Knight together with check. I remember I saw a almost the same puzzle composed from a guy called Troitzki of something like that. And the winning line is similar. Thats why I could see it that fast.

Necessary... unnecessary... This is all worthless talk. My puzzle asks for a mate in 4 moves even if black don't want this. Rf5 is the only move to reach this goal, so it's pretty clear. I don't thought that such a small puzzle will make so much unclearness. Nice puzzle of Deviance, sadly I couldn't search for a solution since I was to late and accidentaly readed Tafatt's solution for it already. If someone is interested I could post another study (or like you call it "puzzle") of me tomorrow. In this one the curiouse thing is that white has only the King a Bishop and a Knight against all 16 standard pieces of black, and white can still win :-) (you have to find the winning line). I just fear that it will bring much more unclearness than the first puzzle since it's more complicated.

I turn on the music in this order: - course 1 = no music - course 2 = music 1 - course 3 = music 2 - course 4 = music 3 and repeating this 4 steps to the courses 5-8 Completed course 2 with 42 sec remaining, and course 3 with even 53 sec remaining!

I use savestates between every car bounce about 10 times and between every corner anyway. Already completed 1st course with 45 sec remaining!

nice movie, the problem is bouncing off the other cars might be interesting but you will lose many speed then and for a timeattack I will need max speed possible. But since the speed of the other cars is different I will still try to bounce one that is faster than at least 240 km/h. But my movie will look almost like the one in your video thats for sure. EDIT: Even better :-)

Is there anyone who is interested in a Rad Racer Timeattack? I'm planning to do one, but I'm not sure if it will be interesting to watch of the game itself. What do you think?

Since there are some chess-lovers I thought that we could share some chess-studies for a bit brain training. Don't use Chess-Programms to solve such studies if you want to have a challenge, only a hint. Here is a small Studie I composed myself in 21.02.2000: White moves and mates in 4! (a forced mate, no matter if black wants or not) If someone have composed his own studies or have great and interesting studies of other people, please post them here. Have Fun!

I'm not sure if I will need the contents of this chests but it costs me not more than 30 frames but I get 2 Limestones for the very usefull Crush Formula and also 3 Vinegar parts. It's faster than taking 1 ingredient of the ground so I thought I just do it.
