Nuclear power has far too much potential to be ignored because of peoples misguided conception that anything nuclear = bad, and with the dwindling supply of natural fuels like coal and oil looming within the next century or so, nuclear power seems like it'll be fairly important to replace them.

Voted yes, impressive throughout and it didn't look like you lost too much time from not abusing death.

Dear Flygon, Do you not feel that particular quality or behaviour may alienate people you come across?

Dear Flygon, I'm sensing some jealousy regarding mmbossman's popularity in this thread, so I'm going to throw you a bone. Why do you think that I got this impression from you?

Dear mmbossman, Do you feel that the April Fools submission 'joke' has been taken too far this year, with the number of 'joke' submissions being excessive in comparison to previous years? (and arguably, unfunny)

I suspected something like this, though I thought it'd be from being spawned in the same room as a goblin with a wand of death in main inventory. Obviously wouldn't be a 0 turn death, but still a pretty funny thing to happen.

ehrm, I'm not entertained by it, that makes me dumb? I think you are more for making such a post if anything everybody else who didn't complain for the death is being a hipocryte
I'm not calling you dumb for not being entertained. I'm calling you dumb for implying that the author did something wrong by submitting this.

This is my prediction that some of them will say: "Oh it is slower, why not use death to save time,no vote." Now,that get truth.
It's only two people saying that and one of them seems to be saying it out of spite. Check the vote counts for both movies. ^^

Speed/Entertainment tradeoffs are commonplace on this site. Complaining that the author 'left out known improvements' when the point of this submission was obviously a no-death version of the previous movie, with improvements, is just plain dumb. >_>

Voted yes. I much prefer this version of the run to the one that used continues regardless the fact that using continues is faster.

Arguments over opinions rarely solve anything. That said, voting no as my opinion that continues ruin the entertainment of metal slug runs has not changed. Sorry.

Voted yes, thoroughly enjoyed this run from start to finish. The abuse of Blocking Mail was especially entertaining.

I've voted for No, with rare exceptions. moozooh's post raises a great point about rank that I had not thought of previously when considering this post, but not every arcade game uses the rank system and there are some arcade games that lend themselves well to playarounds or other types of TAS that being able to credit-feed in works well, such as fighting games. However for single-player/two-player endurance games such as shoot'em ups, run and guns and so on, I feel that credit feeding is a crutch designed for casual players to be able to beat the game using and abuse of them in TASes just looks ugly.

Maybe to you. Not everyone shares your opinion and finds the same things entertaining as you do, and claiming you know better than someone else about their own opinion is insulting.

Oh, right, I misunderstood you then. I thought you were talking about other games. Yes, that is what I mean. A no death run of Metal Slug X would be more impressive and entertaining to me than one that uses deaths to save time, and infinitely more entertaining than one that uses a continue.

No. Metal Slug is not the same as every game. If you're implying that dying in Metal Slug is as easy as say, dying in a Zelda game, then you're deluding yourself. For THIS game, death looks ugly. That is not the case for every other game ever just because it is the case for this one.

It has nothing to do with speed. Metal Slug is a game that is difficult to complete without dying in normal play, so a run that does not die is impressive to me regardless of time taken unless there are obvious wastes of it. Your run was more entertaining up until you used continues, and that completely ruined it for me. This is the point I'm trying to make.

I have seen AngerFist's Metal Slug X TAS as well as yours, and comparing the two I found his more entertaining to watch purely because you used continues and he did not.

The videos on this site do not only aim entirely for speed. Entertainment is also a factor. If it's less entertaining to some due to the use of continues, then their opinions should be taken into account for that. Speed/Entertainment tradeoffs are common in TASes on this site for exactly this reason. Of course, ultimately the decision of how to create TASes falls upon the author to do as he pleases. The author should however not expect everyone to agree with his decisions.

If that was the case, there would have been no complaints about your previous Metal Slug X run and it would likely not have been rejected. You cannot claim to know the opinions of everyone on this site just as I can only speak for myself when I say these things.

Maybe to you. What might be more entertaining to you is not more entertaining to everyone, and assuming that your way is the most entertaining method while dismissing everyone elses opinions is senseless. I am outright telling you that I would find a nodeath TAS of Metal Slug more entertaining than one that uses continues, regardless of the time saved.
