Didn't work for me. Not sure if I'm doing things right as I'm a complete noob at command prompt.
Here is a pic of what I did:

What I'd really like is a way to dump the .avis easily like on any other TAS emulator, because on Mame-rr it's so needlessly complicated that I still could not figure out what I have to do exactly.
It's been a while since I last posted here, and I just noticed this topic.
It's really, really sad to know this... I never had the chance to talk with Rachel so much (the only contact I had with her was sometime ago through a PM, asking stuff about Wii TASing, and she replied to it) ...but still, she seemed to be a really dedicated person.
I feel very sorry for her especially because she was so young... but hopefully she is feeling happy on a better place now.
Honestly, just Male/Female covers pretty much everything (transmen and transwomen identify as specifically male or female and don't like being referred to as trans), and Other/I'm Not Sure are good alternate options that cover the rest of the spectrum without being discriminatory. More specific gender options can be added if anyone asks for them.
This quote by Samsara reflects my own thoughts very well. It's what I had in mind when I made that one post. That's all.
I wonder if you have even read the whole thread.
...You're blaming Youtube for low resolution videos looking worse than HD? Any low-resolution video is going to look horrible when upscaled in any video player and that's probably never going to change. It's not Youtube's fault that low resolution videos look awful, it's the fact that they're low resolution in the first place.
Nope. As I said before, I don't have a problem with that. But I do have a problem with my videos being labelled as 480p60 when they're actually 720p60.
This is the truest truth I read in quite a bit of time.
Not that I mind much, but if they want us to upload everything in 720p+ so badly, then at least try to label our videos correctly. Instead of giving that 480p60 BS.
By the way, I complained about it a few days ago on Google Support but they ignored it completely. Seems like they're not competent enough to even fix a simple problem like this.
Currently, choosing 240p gives you the 360p video, when choosing 360p it gives you 480p and so on (look at rightclick -> "Stats for nerds").
This might be the reason why we suddenly have 480p60, as it is actually 720p60!
So... if we follow this logic...
144p only videos are now completely unplayable? (not that it matters, but I'd just like to know)
I uploaded a couple test videos. Check them out:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BYpX3QNnTQhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GjyvPAiZYk
The first one is 1024x896, and the second one is 768x720 (slightly letterboxed). Both of them are 60fps HD, but youtube is showing them as 480p60 instead of 720p60. wut?
Afaik, 480p can't even run as 60fps on that site. If my videos' height are higher than 720 pixels, then they're supposed to show as 720p60.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with my videos, so it's youtube's fault. Does anyone know what's going on?
Bisqwit also mentioned this method only seems to work for PSX and is not available on Windows. But that was years ago so I don't know if things have changed by now.
Can anyone confirm?
mmmm... do you happen to know if any mame build supports LUA scripts? (My current version is mame 0.148)
I've never used LUA scripts before so I don't really know how they work...
EDIT
I just read a bit of this page:
http://mamedev.org/devwiki/index.php/MAME_0.154mame wrote:
Miodrag Milanovic created machine_manager as singleton class that contains (for now) one running machine:
Updated LUA engine to run in machine_manager instead of being initialized per machine.
Added "-console" option so emulator can be started with LUA enabled console.
Update LUA to version 5.2.3.
Enabled SQLite3 to be compiled and added LUA module for it.
They seem to be mentioning LUA stuff on this page. So maybe it's compatible with this version after all?
I was told that for emulators that can dump .avi and save states but have no rerecording features, the only way to make TASes out of them is by dumping the game's .avi and loading states normally, then throwing the .avi on a video editor (such as virtual dub) and then manually deleting the frames between states.
Thing is... I'm extremely bad at perceiving what frames I should delete and which ones I should keep. I made one small video and loaded state only once and even so could not detect what frames I was supposed to delete because it's really hard with nothing to guide me. I mean, if there was some info pointing out what frames I should delete such as "frame 7890 until frame 9320" or "frame 18993 until frame "19580" etc, it'd make my life MUCH easier.
The problem with all of this isn't because the process is tedious (I have enough patience for it), but the problem is that I REALLY fail to detect what frames should be deleted. If I could not find them even on a movie with a single state load, then just imagine on a movie with hundreds of state loads. Plus I'm pretty paranoid so I'd want everything perfect, and I'm pretty sure most "unwanted frames" would pass unnoticed by me.
So... I'd like to know: are there any tips/tricks that I can use in order to guide me on what frames I should delete? It'd be really helpful. All I want is to know precisely what I need to remove and what I need to keep, so I could make my .avi only TASes. I was thinking maybe a specific avs script could help with that, or something similar... I dunno. But I do know that I really need help with this.
I typed the phrase upside down because that's how it shows for me on the emulator. Look:
So... the game is Marchen Maze (rom name = mmaze). It loads perfectly on mame-rr, but when I activate "start movie recording" the game resets and gives me this error screen.
I'm pretty sure I'd be able to bypass this problem if I begin recording from save-state instead of from power-on. Problem is: I have no idea how to do the former on this emulator.
Or maybe there are different alternatives around this problem, but I can't think of anything. Can someone help me please?
I really hope someone will be able to help since I don't know anywhere else to ask for help with this matter... T~T
In all seriousness, you really shouldn't worry so much about Nach. Nach is a mature person who, if dealt with in a reasonable manner, will not harbor and maintain bad feelings. He tends not to get worked up over things since he's had many experiences with tons of different communities in his life.
I am speaking for him because it's guaranteed that he wouldn't say something so directly and you clearly needed a direct answer.
Umm... is that so? Well... perhaps you're right, I tend to worry a lot about things. But I guess I should stop worrying now. ^^ Thank you for your information, Lex. And yes, Nach also strikes me as someone who is pretty mature. n.n
BUT anyway... I've said enough and this is starting to go off-topic. I can't think of anything else that's relevant enough to add, and the gender feature was already implemented. As such, seems like I have no more reasons to post here. (At least not on this thread)
It's working perfectly for me as well, and looks much better than before. ^^ Thank you very much, Nach!
ummm... errr... I'm really sorry for bringing this up Nach, but It's just that there was no reply for when I apologized earlier, so I can't tell if you accepted it or if you are holding hard feelings against me... (I'm bad at this stuff) but I really hope the latter isn't the case...
I'm considering many options, but the simple truth is, I don't have the time to try a dozen different approaches. I threw something together real quick which is easy. When I have time, I'll improve it. I'm reading what everyone says, some suggestions are easier to accomplish or more effective then others (in terms of the programming involved), and that's where my focus will be at the moment.
I will also add that "demands", "insults", or "inappropriate language" will only serve to remove any interest I have on improving this.
That's completely understandable. I'll stop with the demands now. You have my word.
But... I'm worried about something. Did I insult you? If that's the case, then I apologize. I meant no harm with my sentence.
You can also trust I won't ever use inappropriate language again here. Sorry, that escaped from my mouth by accident even though I don't like to use it.
Gamer Maiden Sonia, you really need to purchase a new sarcasm detector.
I've always understood sarcasm as something you say while thinking the contrary. If what you said before was sarcasm, then you're considering our suggestion of "more visible symbols" instead of rejecting it. But since that doesn't seem to be the case, then that wasn't sarcasm.
^ THIS is how the symbols are supposed to look like. It looks far more noticeable and apparent this way.
It's not supposed to be noticeable and apparent.
Well... I just drew symbols for the other genders in case you change your mind...
male | female | male&female | genderless | other/uncertain
I still think my idea is better and pretty sure others would agree with me. I do think you should be a bit more flexible and learn to accept the other members' suggestions instead of giving everyone a "fuck you. It's either my way or the highway"
I'm chatting with Ji-chan through Skype and this "force refresh" method does absolutely nothing for either of us. Besides:
^ THIS is how the symbols are supposed to look like. It looks far more noticeable and apparent this way.
