Trust me, once you've learned C good enough to help with this, the project will probably be finished by far.

At frame ~14000, you exit a door underwater. Then you walk on the ground until you start falling down - wouldn't it be better to take a stroke or two to gain some extra speed? What was the reason for going down that shaft at the beginning of Carrot Castle? Close to the end of the WIP you enter a room it seems only to grab a 1-UP. Why? Also nice skips with the UFO. :) WIP looks great, good job!

Still in middle school. Planning to study some kind of computer science. The future is still undecided though.

MOD EDIT: Modern Mupen releases are located at the following Github links: Repository: https://github.com/mkdasher/mupen64-rr-lua- Latest: https://github.com/mkdasher/mupen64-rr-lua-/releases/latest
This is a message from okaygo.
Yes folks, after hiding underground in a shelter for such a long time... I decided to visit EmuTalk forums, low and behold people where actively working on a new Linux version of Mupen64. This got me insterested (as all of my window partitions are dead). I have decided to join the emulation team (yes team, we currently have 5 developers as of this post). Mupen64Plus is basically a fork of Mupen64 which aims to complete the project as hacktarux has gone busy in his life. One major drawback is that development is heavily concernced with a stable Linux build, however do not fret. Work is being done to cure this: http://emutalk.net/showthread.php?t=44032 Here is what I am asking of you guys, as re-recording WILL be a feature in this emulator, and since you guys are emulation savy (some) and also coding savy (some) I ask that everyone that can help out does. This will ensure the projects growth and lifespan. This is a list of whats been changed since mupen0.5: http://code.google.com/p/mupen64plus/wiki/ReleasePage Please discuss Mupen64Plus here, and here: http://code.google.com/p/mupen64plus/issues/list I've opened a special issue just for re-recording here: http://code.google.com/p/mupen64plus/issues/detail?id=58&colspec=ID%20Type%20Component%20Status%20Priority%20Milestone%20Owner%20Summary As for game compatibility, I am unsure of whats been changed, but it doesn't mean things wont get fixed, we just need a DETAILED explination of what is broken, you can do this by opening an issue for each game, and writing segments in the wiki here: http://code.google.com/p/mupen64plus/wiki/GameCompatibility April 13th: Mupen64Plus v1.3 was released a couple of weeks ago and there haven't been too many bugs reported yet. Mostly just requests for Windows and OSX builds. I guess everyone is busy playing away. We're now actively working on features for the next release. Our SVN repository has a new gameshark-code cheat system, a KDE4 GUI, support for rumble in Linux, a whole bunch of GTK2 GUI fixes and improvements, high quality audio resampling with libsamplerate, and a dummy video plugin. http://emutalk.net/forumdisplay.php?f=50 - Mupen64 Forums http://code.google.com/p/mupen64plus/ - Homepage http://groups.google.com/group/mupen64plus - Discussion

I first used Jabo's 1.5.2 for playing through the movie, but I had a desync at the sword. Then I switched to glN 64 0.4.1 and played the movie from the beginning, and it worked. I think the issue for people is that they do not play replay the movie after switching plugins.

as guybrush said: because nobody cared. I never said he was "no good". He made a couple of speedruns a lot of people (including me) enjoyed. However, he failed on several levels. He never even bothered to compare movement speeds, it took years of waiting and someone else to do a 15-minute-test to notice that backwalking is faster. Actual OoT-research didn't happen until the infamous thread at sda, where other people did the work while TSA waited patiently to reap it, continuously lowering the expected time of his "next run" on each discovery. Then he noticed there was actual competition and he'd have to keep up. He struggled to learn bomb hovers and never managed to do the run he promised. His Zelda1-speedrun was beaten by sleepz, and he did some very ugly things to get him to reveal his route, because TSA knew he couldn't beat him otherwise. His ALttP-record was attacked, so he spread misleading information, hiding another run of his, basically doing the same things he previously condemned when he needed a zelda 1 route. The reason I don't like him is because he was mostly talk, using other's work to his advantage while contributing little in terms of research, being a hypocrite not driven by morale, but by personal advantage, and he made claims and promises he never kept. Four character traits I just can't stand.
The first OOT run was indeed the first OOT run. Not much had been found yet, and guess why? Because it hadn't been researched. You're blaming TSA for not being good enough of a glitch hunter, and for not having the knowledge we have of the game today, which mind you has been hunted down by tens of people (even though 6 or so have done most of the work). It's like comparing the Gamecube to the NES - why couldn't they just have done the cel-shaded graphics from the start? And jeez, what were you expecting, someone actually doing a speedrun for the good of the community? He took advantage of the things found by other people because none of them would actually bother to run the game. If any of them would have stated that they would run the game, I'm sure TSA would have just stepped aside. It's not like he was their captain and they his crew of glitch-hunters. The fact that he never managed to produce this second speedrun is another story. I wasn't there myself to see the events unravel, but I'm sure he had a good reason. "Not being able to learn how to bomb hover"? Pah, so what? You're saying he was good enough for the "easy" run, but not for the "newer", glitchier run. What's the big deal? He just wasn't good enough, sheesh.

Nope, it enters 'TSA'. TSA was a guy on a mission to claim all zelda speedrun records who once threw a hissy fit, then left with broken promises while others surpassed him. He can still be seen as the creator of our OoT topic, where he made sure to show his name without actually contributing much.

If Bloobiebla continues at this level of optimisation and actually decides to finish it, I think rejection is out of the question.

Definitely one of the best first-time TASes I've seen. If you would have told me you were a senior TASer, I would had believed you, judging from this video. Very nice, keep it up. :)

what do you prefer? waiting half an hour to get to that point while mupen eats cpu, or skipping right to that point/getting there much faster without eating cpu? damn it, you guys sure like arguing. you know that a feature like that would be useful.
Sure it would be useful, I was just providing an alternative. It probably isn't very plausible though; it hasn't been implemented in any other emulator.

I'd say Super Mario 64. If you look at the GameFAQs boards of the game, you'll see I'm close to the best.

Why do you aim for 100 points in particular? The goal seems very arbitrary to me.

Voting yes because of this.
Wow this place has awesome music. Seriously.
It looks like you finally got your ass down to finishing this, and what a finish it was. :) Great job, yes vote. (I'm not sure if I understand why the movie would be V3 at all, it should be V8, no? D: )

I must say, this was a very quick and well done response to my run. While I think you left out some entertainment value in some of the boss fights and other waiting periods from your previous movie, it was overall good. I'm not sure if you knew this, but each jump (no matter how far or high) is always 1 frame slower than just running. I think I spotted some places where your jumping wasn't optimal, but that was just a few times anyway, so it isn't worth redoing for. Great job, yes vote!

And as you remember, andrewg wall jumps in his speedrun.

I'm far from the TASer who watches the RNG. Though I have found that any actions at all changes what item comes out of a box. If you hold right for one frame longer, another item may come out.

I did just that in my last WIP very optimised, however when I compared my new strategy to the old one, I found it was around 20 frames faster.

It looks like you finally managed to save those sought-after 2 seconds, which can only be described as incredible. I cannot watch the run right now due to lacking hardware, but I will once I get home (this Sunday). Good luck getting this published, you won't need it.

It has been proven to be the fastest way of acceleration. quote="Phallosvogel"]oh and in the first bowser stage (im not that good with the stage-names) jou repeatedly jump on the elevator (this turning wheel thing) before you jump down to perform the BLJ. why?[/quote] Because the elevator isn't lined up properly when Mario gets there.
