Great work on this run. I especially liked the 'Egg juggling' in the autoscrolling worlds (1-5) and jumping into lava/a pit as a boss dies (Tap-Tap and Bowser). The glitch in 2-1 was neat to see, it's a pity there's nowhere else in the game a similar glitch can be used. And, of course, sniping the World 3 Boss before you fought it was a nice touch, though I particularly liked that battle, myself. I was wondering, though, what happened after you beat Hookbill the Koopa? You seemed to get propelled up into the air somehow.

I'd personally like to see a run of this, I started a new game of PStar4 a few weeks back, though I slacked off playing it after I beat Zio. Any ideas on how to manipulate luck? It would be interesting to see if you could manipulate whether or not your characters dodged an attack. Also, you should make good use of Macros. One idea could be, if you needed to level up early on would be to do so when Rune joined the group. Set up a Macro of him casting Gra on the first move, then try and manipulate encounters so you meet nothing but groups of four FireNewts, as that group gives the best EXP and Meseta for that point in the game, I believe. Gra costs 10 TP, and Rune starts with 148 or so, so that's 14 uses you'd have before you lose him in Tonoe. Of course, that's only if you need the levels and cash. I'm not sure how far you could go without much leveling, it would depend on manipulation. But Macros would definately be something to take advantage of during the run.

This may be unrelated, but I'm curious. Where do you find these Japanese Hell records that are mentioned in the post you linked to? I tried to find them when I played Cave Story a few months ago, with no luck. I'd like to see them. EDIT: Nevermind, I see them. I see them. ^^ Any luck actually submitting a run to SDA, Blublu?

No, it DOES desync after the fight, that's just where I assume it started because I thought Buzz Buzz was meant to attack in that round... Then the first place I really know something is odd is the final input in the last round. The cursur pauses for a few moments on the fight command. And then, when the fight is over, it pauses for, like, 4 seconds on the 'You got ** EXP' message. And then, once the fight is over, the menu keeps coming up, while the game keeps trying to talk to someone who isn't there (as if a button were constantly being pressed). The PSI Shield thing was just where I thought it happened, but it seems to be, instead, right in the final round of the Starman Jr. fight.

Nope, still no good. This is weird. It desyncs in the same spot every time, no matter what I do, or how long I wait when the game starts up. What I think goes wrong, is that in the second last round of the Starman Jr. fight (or the LAST round, as it SHOULD play out) Buzz Buzz casts PSI Shield instead of attacking, and attacks in the following round. At least, that's what it looks like to me... Are there any other settings checked in the movie itself? Only the 'Use WIP Timing' box is checked when I play the movie, and I'm not getting any mismatch errors... Maybe I'll just wait for your next update, and see if that might somehow correct the problem...

I'm still getting a desync in the exact same spot. I let the game run until long after the title screen appears, and it still doesn't keep it from desyncing. What settings do you have set, besides the boxes in the open movie window? Soudn settings and stuff, this is weird...

I think, then, that it's the nature of the game for it to desync randomly... since it's even doing so for Hala. It's not the first game to be that way, I certainly don't know how to resolve it, however.... It's a pity, too, it could be a great run.

The movie desyncs for me after the Starman Jr. fight. Or rather, it seems to desynch in the second last round or so, the buggy movie still manages to defeat the enemy, but it gets stuck afterward opening the menu and talking to nothing... Edit: And I'm using the right rom, at least it's not giving me any Mismatches anyway.

Huh, pity you didn't have a long enough name to break it into four sections, now what we'll see in the full party will be Halamantariel Poo. ;) Clever decision for the names, though. It looks good so far, I imagine this game can become pretty tedious when you try to manipulate EVERYTHING (especially when you get a full party) but since the system seems so manipulatable (not a word, I don't care :>) it should be an impressive run when it's done. Good luck with it.

Good luck with the Ancient Cave, try not to get too frustrated with it if it doesn't cooperate. Even if you don't post any new updates to the movie for while, perhaps you could tell us how the Ancient Cave is progressing? It's funny that Selan was able to warp to Aleyn, when you didn't bother traveling there. Good thing for scripted game events, eh? I'm curious though, since you didn't actually enter the town from the world map, is Aleyn on her actual warp list? Is it the act of entering the town, or being IN the town that triggers the addition of the town to the warp list? Just curious... Not much in the way of constructive comments, the Northern Lighthouse (ideal hideout for baby kidnappers everywhere!) and the Phantom Tree Mountain (wouldn't people be worried that he cut down the only phantom tree in existance?) looked really good. Keep it up.

While it's possible to beat it without it, I'm pretty sure that in the IoG thread on the SNES forum it was determined that it would be slower to do so, since it would involve getting the powered up Dark Friar at the Euro market place, and spending time charging it up several times to kill the barricading robot before he walks into place while he's on the edge of the screen. At least, that's why I think it Earthquaker was gotten..

Looks good. It's a pity you never found a way to suitably manipulate bosses, but you can only work with what you have. A great run for a great game.

Lookin good, lookin good. The end is near :> There's one question I have, though, but I'm not sure if you answered this already... why do you keep switching back to the Horn Spear? It seemed to me that the Axe you got at Tinker's still did max damage against the enemies you ran into, so why did you spend the time switching back to the spear? It only takes a moment, and there's probably a reason for it that I overlooked. Other than that, keep up the good work.

It's looking good, and the end is approaching. you've done a great job with this run so far, despite some frustration with the Sandworm (betcha can't wait to fight him AGAIN, eh?) I don't have much in the way of specific comments, except that I wouldn't have minded to skip the Black Crystal Glasses, since it isn't required to pick them up and it does take a bit of time. I could have lived with seeing a white screen for a bit, but it's your decision. Sometimes, I guess, you have to give up some speed for aesthetics. Good luck with it.

This is looking really good, I especially liked the Gades battle, considering how tough he would have been with such low levels playing normally. And we're only now just getting started into the real meat of the game... Still, while I love this particular RPG, some of the plot points are so damn convoluted... "I will sink Seim Island with the device in a tower that is in NO WAY connected to the Island!" "I have your baby! Come to the NORTH LIGHTHOUSE!" And etc... still, that makes the game entertaining. You're coming up on the Ancient Cave soon, any ideas what items you're going to try to get, if you attempt to manipulate it?

I'm surprised no one's made a topic for this yet. The recent SDA speed run clocks in at 4:26, but I believe a sub 4-hour run is certainly possible as a TAS. The strategies the Speed Runner used seemed pertty solid, and I was impressed he managed to avoid any damage at all, which must have taken a lot of practice. Avoiding all unnecessary 'normal' battles and only getting EXP from bosses gives you all you need to finish the game. Save for the few enemies you have to fight in the Stardust Fields to get coins, and in the Desert Valley to keep the Princess from being kidnapped. There is one change, though, that I still can't decide if it would be worth doing. Getting enough Beans to get the Great Force item, which doubles the damage given and recieved by the Bros. Recieving damage is a non-issue since you'll be dodging everything. However there aren't a whole lot of /long/ battles where doing double damage would pay off, compared to the time spent getting it. You need to obtain four different 'coffee' drinks in order to get the Great Force. It's not likely that playing the Border Jump game to get 15 more Hee Beans, digging up 15 more Chuckle Beans, and manipulating enemy drops to get 30 Woo beans would be worth the time saved getting the Great Force, but it's something to think about. It may also be possible to manipulate luck so that you get the 'Advance' version of Bros attacks faster, but I'm not sure how much that can be altered. Buying armor is totally unnecessary, save for the #1 Trousers. The defense isn't an issue, but being able to strike first in battle is. In this department, the speed run had it good. Though he had loads more Syrups than he needed at the end of the game. With correcting all the little errors throughout, a sub-4-hour run is certainly possible. Someone (more experienced than me) should certainly give this a shot, and it'll look nice next to Super Mario RPG. :>

If you managed to get all the Secret Cards then you open up the way to a 3-level bonus world. If you beat that the game gives you 50 lives or something I think. No new ending or anything, and getting the OTHER left-over cards don't give you anything special. Of course, a 100% run is a 100% run, so it may be neat to see. I always found McKids to be a neat game, despite a shameless McDonald's advertisment. It employed a lot of really nifty gameplay mechanics, unfortunately it never USED them very well, there were so many potentially great things that could have been done, but the overall game is rather easy. It's the type of game a Level Editor and a creative person could well serve. :>

Any luck figuring out what was causing random desyncs in OoA? Odd that it would happen in that and not OoS...

Whoa, what the heck happened after the Metroid battle? Caught in some sort of endless loop? Otherwise, your method looks good, I loved how you fell down the shaft with Samus facing the screen.

The latest movie desyncs in the second dungeon. In the room where you were supposedly getting the first key, Link throws the bomb too early ,swings his sword at air, then saves and quits before getting any key. It all goes downhill from there. Not sure what's causing it. I have one question though, before you make the brief detour nito the Black Tower to get Maple to drop the potion, it looks like you didn't walk straight down into it. IE: It looks like you were going to take the west exit, then turn around and go into the Black Tower. It would have been faster to walk straight down into it, or was the brief delay in turning around also to manipulate Maple?

I seem to recall the Noble Sword being more complicated to get in Ages than it was in Seasons. I think it required a lot more running around and fetch quests to get, where in Seasons you just needed to do the forest puzzle correctly, and it was on your route. It's probably best to skip it.

Just watched through it. It's pretty good, there's certainly nothing wrong with your route. Though it was mentioned before, I wonder if you'd benefit from actually taking a few Heart Containers from the bosses, especially when it comes to running through explosions. It also looks like there's lots of minor things that can stand to be fixed up, but it's good for a first version. Voting Yes.

Very well done. Your use of two-player sync probably makes this movie deserve a Gold Star.

It'd be long, sure, but go for it. By time-attacking it I'm sure it can be cut to under an hour. I'd like to see it myself. Which items are 'necessary' to complete this game? I don't think you need things like the Varia Suit and Screw Attack, do you? I think the world record DID pick those items up, so not getting them may shave some time off. I can't quite remember though.
