Who needs a TAS to get a perfect score? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Mitchell_(gamer) I have seen the actual machine referenced here.
This topic wasnt started for getting the perfect score, it was started for talk about beating the impossible level, level 256 XD

My avatar shows Squall from Final Fantasy 8. To be honest, I really don't know why, because although I do like FF8, it's really not my favourite game. It just happened that I decided to have Squall as my avatar, and I've had it almost all my time on this site.
It is probably due to his sweet ass scar... I really wish I had one just like it. :P

Have to admit, I laughed my ass off XD Too bad it would be hard to run at llightspeed if the flash were, oh i dont know, held by telekenisis above the ground. do to unfamiliarity with DC, the best example I can give is Jean Grey as pheonix... regular ass jean gray is too weak for mr. lightning ;)

Believe it or not, mine is Aladdin. Shocking as it may be, it's the truth. Why Aladding, some may ask, well it is plain and simple: Aladdin rules. Not as hardcore as batman (see sig) but he still does dominate my face.

This might be a good place to ask. Be sure to download their cheats.dat file first, though.
Good news, that cheat.dat has two options for the Pacman (midway) version rom that I am using. First, by pressing tab and selecting dip switches you can select the cheat option, which does load up the level and then you instantly win it. The next cheat, under driver configuration, lets you use 2x speed... thus you can get through levels relatively quickly. Sadly, there is nothing that tells the player what level they are on/viewing so it is basically a waiting game. Once I get to level 256 i will post a save file for any interested. EDIT: For some reason mame lets me save a state, but not load it ;_;

Sorry for the double post. The writer of the FAQ, Marcus, had this to say: "Officially, there are no cheat codes or anything to skip levels, but using emulation there are ways to do things such as making a stage clear as soon as it appears by not allowing the dots to appear. I don't know a lot about emulation, though, or hacking the game's programming, so this was just something I've happened to have read before and remembered. [^^Would that be a debug feature or something else within the MAME program that could make the dots not appear, or would someone have to make an actual hacked rom that does not allow levels 1-255 to load the dots, and then level 256 to show the dots and make the player clear the board, thus completing the level ?] Supposedly, people have used this to reach and actually complete round 256, and after completing it, the game just resets to round 1, though the ghosts stay at the top speed, and I'm not sure if you keep your score. But there have been no videos of it like you guys are thinking of making, so maybe you could try it out if you can figure out how to do the ROM stuff." I plan to do some google searching for any ROMs or hacks that dont allow the circles to load up, and will post whatever I happen to find (of course, I won't post a ROM, if it exists ;) ) EDIT: http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=69005 has some nice info, of particular note are the post that seems to be a book (5+ paragraphs) and on page 2 there is some code about "where the error occurs", however not being a programmer it is all gibberish XD

Well I just contacted Marcus http://www.gamefaqs.com/coinop/arcade/file/589548/43959 who wrote this faq, and am awaiting a reply. I asked him if there is ANY way to skip levels, or if a runner would have to play all if the levels in order... here is hoping that you CAN skip levels. Also, I looked for faqs for the NES Pac-Man and the one I looked into said there was only 8 levels in the game ;_; No rerecording with nes, i suppose.

No one knows, no one has ever beaten 256 ;) It WOULD be freakin' awesome if there was a 257... although I am sure it would look pretty f'd up :P

I found that level 2 and level 4's bosses dragged on for quite a bit of time. unless there is some way to hit them more/quicker i dont know if this would be the greatest of games to run

I think this is actually due to the fact that you're playing on expert, which the previous movie did not.
Does a movie playing in a higher difficulty obsolete an easier run? I'd vote for this run to obsolete the current run if it continues to be played so well.
I think it would obsolete the older run, if it wasnt being played as 2-player... IMHO one player and two player runs should be kept as seperate categories.

Not sure that would work all that well as a TAS, seeing as how well this game can be played by hand... The tas wouldnt add much to the non-assisted speedruns.
A TAS would be made, imo, for the whole "It IS possible to beat 256, and this video will show you" deal... due to not being humanly possible to beat the level (proven by no one getting the $100,000 reward offered).

Did a quick search and didnt see a topic, so here we go. I wonder if it would be possible to complete level 256 as a TAS, or even at all. Also, do any of the other Pac-Man games (say NES or SNES) have the 256 glitch? I think it would be an interesting run to watch, but doubt it would even be considered here (if even possible) due to 255 levels needing to be played to get to 256. Thoughts?

Sorry for the slightly off topic post, but I think this topic should be sticky'd (get it? HA!) due to how many (from my count, 2 :P) runs actually use this plug-in. Mario64 120 stars synched fine with N-RAGE's plug-in, but IDK if all the other games would synch. Anyways, just a thought ;) EDIT: Goodness, I suppose I should probably RUN the plugin BEFORE commenting :3 Suddenly I see the light of a controller editor (of sorts) as opposed to a straight-up controller plugin... wow... sorry to have done a bit of spamming :3 EDITII: Goddamnit, I think I lose at life. After some brief testing, Diddy Kong Racing will not synch with ANY input plugins aside from the TAS plugin listed in this topic, so I go back to saying that this should be a sticky'd topic *pulls trigger to stop his failing at life/mupen plugins*

I think I would be more entertained by leaving the bonus stages as they are, as opposed to losing all but 1 life or something like that. Aside from grabbing stars more quickly your TAS blew my mind... you should definately submit it after you perfect your already great run.

I would LOVE to see a longer TAS of this game, later on of course ;) This TAS being the popper of my cherry to wetris, I was thoroughly entertained... especially when comicalflop went from 20,000 points to 60,000+ points in a matter of 8 seconds! Definate yes from me.

I would definately love to see more of this. Playing this sucker on my genesis way back when led to much frustration and agony... so actually seeing more than the first screen of, for example, baby bart was like looking at porn... or something... ^_^; Anyways, keep up the great work, and here is hoping for a non-emo Harddrive in your near future ;)

My sister owns this game for gbc i believe, and IIRC, I dont see it as a good TAS game... sure you could luck manipulate, but due to being aimed at younger children the game is quite slow, and, well, dull.

This synchs well for me, both when I open the rom then run the movie, or after the movie is finished playing if I reload the movie. No problems thus far. Having no familiarity with the game, it was not difficult to figure out that the guards were not attacking because they where in shadows... I would be curious to see a completed run, but I may bore quickly due to no previous attachment to the game. Looked good so far, and kill the crap out of those prisoners >:)

Strange, I watched it from beginning to end. (Though I about 20% of the second half.) It was mostly funny and interesting.
Did you watch the .flv from scubed? If so, well, I don't know how you did it :P

I am really on the borderline for this one. I think the movie does get really repetitive (sp) and, due to the game not the runner, rather dull... which would garner a no vote. However, the runner's gameplay was perfect and having played this rom a while back and noting how difficult the controls are, I would vote yes. Sadly, the positive and negative, atleast for me, cancel into a meh vote.
