I'd like to help encode movies as well, but I can't get it to work either. It's been talked about in a different thread but no matter what I do it just won't work. Anyway, what if you gave some sort of bonus or reward to people who watch submissions and vote on them. It might get more people to watch and vote. Then again, what could be given out?

It's not letting me download it. It loads this page with a bunch of funny symbols on it and no download window appears. EDIT: Nevermind, I got it. It worked when I went to the link in IE. Wow, I see what you mean, that was really nice. Much cleaner than mine. I should have a WIP posted soon. I want to practice with the controls some more and familiarize myself with the enemy spawn locations. Thanks for the help nitsuja.

Yeah, I knew I was going to be redoing this at least once. This was really a rough go through to get the feel of the game. Thanks for the cursor hint, it will come in handy. The tricky thing is it only moves the cursor to the right. I can move it up and down as it goes across the screen and once it gets there, but it only moves right.

Cabal is another NES game ported from the arcade. It's really fun, you play as a guy in overalls (or two guys if doing two-player) and are fighting against an entire army. That's right, one guy (or two) against an army of terrorists. I'm not sure what the real story behind the game is, though from what I gather you are fighting to protect your homeland from invading terrorists. Why your army isn't there helping you is beyond me. I used FCE Ultra to record the movie and the US version of the Cabal ROM. I played through the first 4 levels and posted the WIP here: impact.megarpg.net/cabal.fcm You may notice that I throw a grenade at nothing once or twice. That is because the programmers of this game made the throw grenade button the same as the fire button. So when I stop to wait for more enemies to appear before firing again, a grenade gets thrown. This happens once or twice. Also, I know missed shots is a no-no in TAS's but in this game it's kinda unavoidable. You can't really tell I missed because you don't see your bullets, all you see is the crosshair. The only way to move the crosshair is to hold the fire button and use the control pad. It can be moved without holding the fire button but that causes your character to run across the screen faster than the crosshair moves, which usually results in death. Anyway, if there is any interest in this being completed I'll finish it. The game is really fun. So what do you think? EDIT: I decided to complete the movie. I'm probably going to redo it before submitting it, though I may not need to. Use the same link to get the finished version.

What if the score run was done on a SMB3 hack?

I own the cartridge and I can't remember if I got that score or not...

A score run would be really interesting in my opinion. Is there a score cap? I know the counter goes into the millions, but will it cap at 999,999,999? If so the run could be done to see how fast that score (or the max score if it doesn't cap) could be achieved.

Great job, very well done. A yes vote from me for sure. I was suprised you didn't have to buy anything from a store. I loved the pounding you gave Doom.

I just watched the version you submitted and it is superb. Great job! I liked how you kept pounding Doom in the face, that was great. Anyway, I had a thought. Why not try a run of this game using a password that gives you everything, just to see how fast you can do it? I think it would be interesting. The password I'm thinking of is this one: LLHHHHHH HHHHHH HHHHHH3B Enter that password at the password screen and you'll start with everything. Everything except the dynamite. Buy it from the store or find it on the street, then you can go straight to Toontown and beat the game. How fast do you think it could be done?

Yeah, that's a big desynch. I used the snes9x-143-WIP1 emu to do it because it worked with the Jurassic Park run whereas the other one didn't. I just didn't think to try the other one. I'll redo it with the other emulator.

I've watched the run before as well, it only started to desynch when I tried to convert it to an avi. If I watch it normally it probably won't desynch.

Ok, I started a run and got past the first Pison boss. I'm having trouble manipulating the battles. I can get it to give me the battles that I want, but I can't manipulate anything during the battle. I posted the WIP here: impact.megarpg.net/7TH-SAGA.smv What do you think?

Yeah, it's desynching for me now too... I don't know why. It didn't desynch when I watched it before I submitted it. If it had I wouldn't have submitted it. It worked for me before, now it desynchs when I go to cross the river. Maybe this is one of those games that just can't be done. Maybe the emu can't handle recording 3D and 2D aspects in the same game. I dunno.

I haven't beaten FF2 yet, so I'd like to see a run of it. I think the concept of stats randomly going up depending on what you do in battle is interesting, and shouldn't be too hard to manipulate. As for the cash factor, will you have to buy many items or any weapons/armor? Not having to stop at a shop would really save time wouldn't you think?

Thank you for the help, that got me past that part. Now I'm stuck at another part. I'm at the end of the Encoding video using the XviD codec step. I've followed the instructions to the letter, setting everything to what it told me to do, and the easiest part is giving me an error. It tells me to go to File>Save as AVI. I do that, name my file and I get this error: "Cannot initialize video compression due to codec error: The source image format is not acceptable." What does that mean? Did I do something wrong? Am I missing something?? It sounds like it doesn't like my original avi file or something, I dunno.

The run looks really good. I remembered I had one of those old player's guides from Nintendo called "Top Secret Passwords" that has info on WFRR in it. It gives a tip on how to fight Judge Doom, which is why I mentioned it. This is what it says: "Judge Doom is in the Warehouse. You have to use a super Power Punch on him, but keep moving while you hold it. Don't approach--wait for Doom to come to you, then punch. When he tires, knock him down with Cigars and Bombs, then run up the ladder to pick up the Dip Cannon and finish him off." I hope it helps. Good luck, I remember I had to use a Game Genie to beat Doom, but that was before I learned of Luck Manipulation hehe.

Post subject: Help - Converting .smv to avi

Ok, I got a little curious and wanted to try to convert one of my .smv files into an avi file. I followed the instructions given on the site, and I got to the part where you need to use LAME. The site instructions say to open a DOS Shell (MS-DOS Prompt, command prompt, whatever) and browse to where the LAME executable is. This is my problem. There is no executable for LAME. It says use LAME.exe but that doesn't exist... I downloaded LAME from here: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/lame/lame-3.97b.tar.gz?download I got it from there because the link on from the site isn't working. Can someone help me please?

Thanks for the help guys, I got it to work. Excellent job as usual CtrlAltDestroy. I love how you get so close to the enemies before shooting them, it makes it look like you are ramming into them. Also, is there a boss fight in level 6? You get to the end and the screen blips then you beat the level. It says you shot down the target but I never saw it. Great job nonetheless. Must...see...more!!

This is one of the funniest NES games I've ever seen. The run looks great so far Axe so keep it up. I love how the main character looks like a gorilla when he jumps. Also, in level 2 you are riding on the top of what looks to be a giant 18-wheeler. Ninjas run alongside the truck and jump on top to fight you. Does anyone else besides me realize that those ninjas would have to be running like 45 mph to do that? Gotta love old NES games. Is there an arcade emu with working sound record that could be used for the arcade version of this?

Read only? Meaning make the state a read-only file? I tried that and it still started recording from stage 6.

I can't get the state to work, when I load it the movie starts recording from stage 6. How do I do it?
