If you do choose to do a run of this game, remember these words of advice: "Use the blimp to chase the helicopter. You can do it."

I like it, looks good so far. Did that "suit" you used in act 2 give you the Screw Attack?

So what's going on with this? Is it in the process of being done?

I remember this game, it was pretty fun. I never managed to beat it though. I couldn't even beat it with a password that took me to the last fortress. Granted I was playing on a console and not an emulator so it was much harder. Your video looks great. I'm eager to see how this turns out, keep it up!

It says +10 after you kill the boss, but you get 1 extra point that isn't mentioned. I don't remember why exactly but I think it's because you killed the boss so fast.

I agree with them (fourth it????). Since we're going to see her without the suit in the ending already, why waste time putting in a password so we can see her without it during the run?

I agree, it was amazing. I liked the 100% 'WIP' better because he is getting everything and not just running through it. It shows him using insane egg skills to get everything and that is really entertaining. I hope someone eventually does this.

The link you gave to the Metroid Legacy site isn't working for me. I keep getting the '404: Page Not Found' error.

Ok, I got 4175 I think I've done the level itself as good as I could, all I need to do now is tweak the boss fight. What do you think?

Whether he can incorporate it into his run or not, it was still a cool trick.

I wasn't sure if you needed him or not. I figured it would be quicker to kill the boss with him but the time it takes to power up might not be worth it. I'm going to continue working with 1-1 until I get it as fast as possible, trying new things and making sure everything is right. Thanks everyone for your input so far, it's a big help.

Ok, I just ran through 1-1 again. You are still ahead of me by 11 frames. You finish on frame 4338 and I finish on frame 4349. I can't figure out why I can't do it as fast as you did. I used the edgeboost on every possible edge, jumped as little as possible, I even jumped less than you did! You jumped 23 times and I jumped 22. I just don't understand it. We both hit start on the same frame as well, frame 23. Here's my movie. Maybe you can figure it out. The only thing I can think of is flight distance. You fly longer than I do and that's the only difference I spot.

I knew most of that stuff already but thanks for the info. At the moment I'm redoing the first stage trying to do it as fast (or faster) as you did in your demonstration. For some reason I can't do it as fast as you did. I did some things differently like killing enemies sooner or without jumping and I always tried to keep my jumps low so I would get back to the ground sooner, but your run was still faster than mine. I'm not sure but is flying through the air faster than walking? That's the only thing I can think of that would make your run faster. You flew higher and killed more enemies whereas I flew lower and killed fewer enemies. I'm going to do some more testing with jumping. I know you lose a frame when you jump but if flying is faster than walking, it might be worth the frame loss if it means going faster.

That makes a lot of sense. I'm still new to this community so I didn't realize that the tools used have come a long way from what they were. I see now why runs are improved and why some runs are rejected. It's not about how perfect you can make it (well, maybe it is a little bit) but whether it's entertaining and looks really good. Thanks everyone for clearing this up for me.

Post subject: Improving Runs

It's something that is constantly being done on this site; someone makes a run of a game, then someone else (or the same person) takes the same game and does it faster. The newer run replaces the older run and the older run goes to another dimension... or something. My question is this: if someone submits a run that can be improved, why is it accepted? I've seen runs here (Rockman/Megaman series for example) that have been improved 2-3 times and are still being improved. Why not make the run as good as it can be before accepting it? I love a fast run as much as the next guy but eventually it gets boring seeing the same game over and over again no matter how fast you go through it. I'm asking this because I'm confused about some things. Mainly the Amagon run I recently submitted then cancelled because I was told it needed to be improved. Don't get me wrong, I'm going to improve it, but I'm sorta dumbfounded that a run (my run) that could be improved by 22 seconds or so is declined when there are runs that are accepted then improved by minutes months later. All you need to do is look at the front page to see my point. Megaman 6 and Little Nemo were both improved by minutes. If such improvements were possible, why were the runs accepted before being improved? I dunno, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe my run wasn't as good as I thought it was and that's why it was turned down. I didn't make any mistakes, I just didn't use the edgeboost as much as I could in the first few levels. I got great feedback on the Amagon thread so I thought it was ok. Either way I wanted to bring this point up because I'm confused and I'm hoping someone can clear this up for me. Thanks for letting me rant.

Ok, I shall begin work on an improvement. The parts that need improving are the beginning right? I'd like to avoid redoing the last 2 levels (6-1 and 6-2) because of their insane difficulty but if it is necessary then I will redo them. Is there a way I can combine 2 fcm files into one so I can keep the last 2 levels and add them to the improved part?

I will improve this run at some point, but IMHO I thought it was good enough to submit.

Yeah, I used the edge boost more in the later levels. I could've used it more in the beginning levels but I chose not to because I didn't think it would be that much of a difference. Now I see that it does save some time there. The beginning levels are quite easy but after Zone 3 they start to get really tricky. Cmuxmt: Did you get the right file? I uploaded the wrong file the first time (the 16:46) one. Make sure the file you have is from the 19:06 run. Zone 6 was insane. So many guys that take lots of hits to kill. Frame advance was a big help there.

I figured out why I uploaded the wrong file. When I made the movie I made backups, like everyone does. The thing is when I made the backup I put it in the folder with the emulator so it would be separate from the original one and other .fcs files. When I would load the movie to continue work I thought I was loading the original file but was actually loading the backup file! So, since I was working from the backup and not the original, the work was saved to the backup and not the original. Then when I would upload the file, I would upload the original thinking it was what I was working on the whole time, when I was actually working on the backup file. Sorry for the confusion, I'll be more careful from now on lol.

I'm baaaaaaaaaaack! Actually I've been back for a while now but this is the first post I've made since I got my comp back. I got my comp back on the 9th of this month and I had a lot of reloading to do. Unfortunately my hard drive had to be wiped clean and although I was told everything was backed up, not everything was. I lost a lot of stuff, all my roms, emulators and some other files. Thankfully the folder I keep my movie making emus and files managed to survive. Anyway, my comp is back to normal. On to business. I didn't want to come back without bringing you guys something so here. Sorry it took so long, enjoy!
