Well VBA has been replaced by BH with that sexy GBA splash to boot, so I'd imagine someone, if not klmz, would have to start from scratch and make a bk2 for it to be not only accurate, but current.

So quick bump, does anyone know if there's any more progress towards making a publishable TAS? I was just curious. I was somewhat debating tinkering with is but it seems like a publication-worthy TAS is close but no one has completed it yet? Unless I'm missing something.

Basically this. Absolutely yes, I find the research and work that went into it to be really fascinating. But watching it, it's a meh 13 second encode of a game that came out when I was negative 14 years old that I never played.

Sweet lord. Again. [Edit] I will reiterate what I said on the other submission with some additions. Check the forums for discussions on the games you want to TAS and post the projects ''there'' first to see with those not only mutually interested in the game but also knowledgeable and can help you make a high quality TAS. I'm not trying to be mean here, but have you seen the quality of runs on the site? People put a lot of time care and effort into their TASes and while, not everyone is of the same level of technicality (god knows I'm not someone with even a fraction of the talent of a good chunk of the people on here) but the key factor to every TAS published on this site is at least, to varying degrees a lot of effort went into the runs. But with very few re-records, barely optimized runs and pretty much no notes written for the run(s) I question how much effort is going into these submissions if any. I'll give you this, ya got heart at least! You certainly seem eager to TAS, just taking some time to take a more critical look at your submissions and talking things out with the communities of the different games will go a long way.

I don't see a forum topic on this game (*citation needed since I only skimmed the list) posting in a thread on the game, or any game you may have interest in TASing, is the best place to start. You can post WIPs, videos and (potentially) get feedback and discuss techniques and strats there. That way you can submit a run you can stand behind the quality of, and will be entertaining to others.

Tbh, I felt meh in terms of entertainment, but I can't help but feel a bit dubious about the movement optimization. Like at about 14 secs, you "burned the troll" but it seemed like it was out of your way anyway and could have been ignored. I've never played this and there could be a reason but, alas, there are no runs notes to go off of.

Pretty fun watch, one thing I'm not clear on though. Acceleration is more or less instantaneous right? So when you press left or right you go max speed instantly? I was curious about why you held against the walls while jumping up the step formations. If it is instantaneous, it should be fine but I wanted to ask anyways.
Good question. Yes, acceleration is instantaneous. Holding up against the step formations and holding jump for no more frames than minimum to reach the platform clips you onto the ground a frame quicker than jumping straight up. This was a small optimization I found during my last TAS so I didn't think to mention it. Gonna add a section about that in the notes.

So I haven't been active on this site for a while due to various IRL crap. But I wanted to come back to say YEEEEESSSSSSS!!! Edit: what I like about this run is as the RTA any% time is being brought down lower and lower I like how much this run sets itself apart from the RTA run. Personally I've always been in the camp of breaking the game as much as possible, but I can understand if others find this run to be too major of a departure from standard any% runs to be enjoyable for some (see: the first Megaman game). Also, dat KRDP

I just want to say that I'm loving all of the finds recently and hope this continues. I also find it funny how much Zebes tends to keep continuity between glitches. The door glitch from the original game is present in SM and now the Zebetite Skip from SM is in ZM.

What I don't understand is how you can even concentrate while listening to all that stuff.
What's funny is that I find it harder to concentrate with traditional music. To keep from a long tangent, I experience Synesthesia in that I visualize sound as texture (never any color though) and things like Drone and (some) Noise has consistent, if not classically pleasing, tones that make it easier to concentrate for some reason. Tl;dr. Hell if I know.

Huh, didn't know anyone else here was into Noise Music. Incidentally, I've been playing this in the background while working on some writing. Link to video That, and a lot of Akira Yamaoka's more atmospheric work. Tickles that part of the brain that's supposed to ignore ambient tones.

Sometimes I feel like the only one that likes this OST (then again, I also LOVE Noisia) never played (or cared about) the game. Link to video

So, uh. I got drunk last night and ended up remixing a song from a cartoon I watched as a kid. https://soundcloud.com/playinpixels/john-palmer-the-bunyip-cerq-remix

Figured I'd post an update since it's been a while. I'm still working on this TAS but with the holiday season and my work schedule being - for lack of a better, more funny word - ridiculous I haven't had time to work on it as much as I want to. Plus after updating to Windows 10 BizHawk crashes whenever I attempt to "record OSD" for temp encodes, making muddy, low-quality temps the only thing I can do. To add onto that, I notice BH 1.9.4 (which I unfortunately am using) runs much more slow with Win 10 making each frame advance take roughly a second to register and re-records are even slower. (This adds up) All of these excuses aside, I'm just entering the final area of the game, Oogie's Lair and I expect to post an update file sometime during this weekend. This area, though, is going to take a while to complete seeing as not only is it a huge area requiring the utilization of many different forms of movement tech to traverse a single room, but also health/ammo management is very, VERY much a thing seeing as the area houses multiple bosses. Just fair warning for when you all don't hear from me working on this TAS for long periods of time.

No, but then again I'm not Cliff Burton and probably won't be for a long while. Also, I've been going back and forth between Recoil - Jezebel. and Roxy Music - Love is the Drug.

There really aren't many shows on now that I care too much about/for. Though I do have a number of mainstay shows that I'll rewatch a million times over. Red Dwarf, Futurama, QI, Monk, Blackadder and A Bit of Fry and Laurie to name a few. Basically a lot of comedy series'. [Edit] I have all of my buddies trying to get me into one of the myriads of super-hero shows, despite my often loud and abundant not caring. I did, however have a passing interest in "Got Ham" before ultimately losing interest for good. If it ends well I might revisit it years from now and end up liking it, who knows? Plus, and not to go on too much of a tangent, why does Penguin look like Johnny Depp in Dark Shadows?

The TAS is looking great so far. Here's to hoping there are similar tricks in the Zuko/Iroh sections that can save time. This is moving pretty fast for a beat em' up and I'm enjoying the progress.

I actually meant to post this a bit ago but forgot about it. I've been playing piano and drums for most of my life but recently I took up learning electric bass (I want to eventually learn - read: afford - an upright one day). This track has the first live bass pattern I wrote and I'm fairly happy with it. I wanted to write something short that would get me used to moving across all of the strings in a smooth walking fashion. Fun to play but good as a warm up. https://soundcloud.com/playinpixels/melisma-will-be-the-death-of-me

I've actually been wondering about this game myself since after a few of my projects I want to tackle the PS1 version of The Neverhood. I do know someone made some "test" TASes, but that was years ago and I'm sure we (yes I'm including myself as I'll be looking into the game) can find more interesting/optimal movement tech/strats than was thought of back then. I'll look into it.

I wish there was a thumbs up system for quotes like this. Anyway, I voted Meh. I can't really say I lost interest throughout (it's only 3 minutes long). I does strike me as odd that in "hop" mode, you hop (makes sense) but in "run" mode, you can also hop - why have the choice at that point. Also, does the music sound out of sync with itself half the time to anyone else?

Wow that WIP looks good. Personally, I think skipping the enemy encounters avoids the biggest source of tedium this game has and puts most of the focus on "puzzle" solving and movement tech. I really look forward to seeing a full TAS.
