I apologize in advance for the essay coming up. This issue is something I've spent years thinking and debating about, and before I say what I'm about to say I want it clear that I haven't bought any of the current gen consoles - I actually don't own any of last gen's either, sadly. But all and all I don't want to see any of the big three suffer, ideally I want to see a growing competitive market where the consumers benefit by the influx of well-executed ideas and the companies benefit from happy consumers - i.e. patrons = moolah. I'm just covering myself from any "you're a __ fanboy" retorts. Now. Nintendo is in trouble and they know it. The PS4 has sold more than double the Wii U and from a company's competitive standpoint this spells "how are we losing sales? Oh, I see it's these damn 'lettuce players' spoiling the game". Never mind that the most popular LPers nowadays don't really play much besides Minecraft, GTAV and random indie games that even I think are too obscure to care about - Just type in "Let's Play" on YouTube to see what I mean. But to be more on point, every time Nintendo has an issue with sales or something of the like they start poking at LPers more and more. They take a number of videos down, retreat, put on the lambs covering and say they're "all for gamers and we wuv them", until later the cycle repeats. This has happened, in my recollection, no less than 5 times since November of 2012 (when the Wii U was released in America). Now as Nintendo is pushing the Wii U VC more they're left to wonder "why would people re-buy Super Pretendo games that they can play for free with these emulators? Let's coerce them to stop using emulators with bully-boy tactics for a while. Then they will love Zoidberg". As such, who is the big gaming niche that relies on emulators? The fact remains is that Nintendo sees it as they're losing money, no matter how anecdotal that claim is, they're going to try and eliminate what they see as a money loss anyway they can. Because it can't be an issue with the games at all. It's someone else's fault. It's the same thing the music industry thinks about piracy - it's the problem, not the homogenized, identikit nature of the radio or the fact that a 9 song album cost $25+ where I live. But I digress (quite hard, actually). The point is that this has been going on with LPers for years now, and now that TASing is becoming more widely known - with the help of the 'GDQ appearances, no doubt - the community has grown thankfully, but it also becomes a bigger target to companies like this. Unfortunately I don't think this will be amicably resolved until the copyright laws themselves are more clear as to the rights of the IP holder and the consumer (and this allows reasonable freedom for both). As it is now, too many grey areas exist and given how tied-in big business is into legislative measures (I can only speak for my country in that regard) I don't see that happening soon, if at all.

What in particular? Edit: Oh yeah, sorry. I had to reupload the video because I forgot to bounce it down to mkv to make the upload time not so horrible.

Can't say I looked that hard, I have a pretty bad habit of skimming lists fairly haphazardly. But given the lack of activity I wonder now if it did actually register me technically but wouldn't let me continue (I distinctly remember it wouldn't let me continue with the registration as if my name was already taken and wouldn't send me a verification email like with this account). The reg date is around the time I first time I tried registering - don't ask about the more than half a year gap. If it has the same IP as me, I'd wonder who I'd talk to about possibly deleting/merging the account if necessary. But I'm going off topic a bit...

My original name that I use just about everywhere else, "The Barrel" comes from an infamous obstacle in Carnival Night from Sonic 3 & Knuckles. I originally used the name on Sonic Retro. At the time I registered (I don't know if this is still the case as I haven't visited in a long, long time) the registration page said that one had to have an "original" name - I.e. not "SonicShadowfan52618". So I thought "what's my favorite Sonic game? S3&K. What do people remember about it besides the Death Egg? The Barrel." So there you go. I tried registering here as "TheBarrel" like I did with SDA, but for some reason it wouldn't let me register with that name (even though I can't find anyone on the members list with that name) so I went with the simple misspelling, though I still pronounce it the same.

"What do you mean I accidentally programmed the music track in octave 9? sigh Whatever. Ship it!" is the conversation I imagine. Regardless, the TAS itself looks pretty good, and isn't too long. Yes vote. That said, I wonder if the "Hardest difficulty" part should be removed from the run title. Seeing as using the hardest difficulty would be what the player would want to do anyway - especially given how short the game is.

Okay, a few things: 1 - Sweet Yeezus, this thread crashed my phone when I went to check it! 2 - Are ferrets basically meme machines? Makes me want to get a couple. 3 - I forgot how creepy naegleria (I think that's who that is) was during that Amnesia run popping up behind Adam. 4 - I don't even want to know the context of the toothbrush thing (nor do I want to question what Spike watches in his free time) 5 - It actually occurred to me today that this thread might cause some server issues (all of the YouTube videos don't just start to load as soon as you open the other thread).

Actually, this conversation hasn't been an echo chamber at all. Everyone seemed to be able to express their ideas and concerns in an open manner and was given due consideration. But I do have a question, dwango. You said that this is basically a non-issue at this point and that we've come to a compromise, but - and I've read through the thread a few times to double check - what exactly is that compromise? What Moozooh said, or was there something else? And who exactly agreed?

I'm currently working on a PSX game in BH and can tell you it isn't. I just skip right past it and continue working. It's basically like another company splash screen (which most games have anyway), really.

I've recently taken up bass and have been trying to learn this song. (The bass line reminds me a bit of 15 Step by Radiohead, by the way.) Link to video All and all, I love this game's OST!

If we're talking about publications on this site, I'd personally like to see both the current run as a playaround (based off of one glitch) and one with this new trick being utilized for speed purposes (basically an Any% run). I don't see the issue with that. As far as 'GDQ appearances, what's wrong with showing the game being broken in multiple ways - some doodle answers and some new glitch answers? Why hide it at all? The point is to be entertaining while, in some ways, saying "hey, look at how broken this is. Isn't that neat?" which is entertaining in itself.

I thought AJAX was around for a while. I get what you're saying, though. Basically, in order to facilitate this the whole site, essentially, would have to undergo a HUGE time-consuming restructuring code-wise. Plus someone with the time and knowledge (and who also cares enough) to do it. I'm not a programmer by any means, so excuse me if this is a dumb question. But is there anyway that, from a programming perspective, the publication pages themselves could be re-coded (for lack of a better word) to facilitate this idea without it too badly affecting the rest of the site's code? Seeing how much the publication pages are tied into things like movie/player/voter statistics and various other things on the site, I would guess not.

I agree with aqfaq Is there anyway to simply get rid of the "send data" button? I can't think of any other side that makes you do that. Simply give the rating and you're done. One click per subject. It would be a bit weird if every time you wanted to like a video on YouTube you then had to confirm it. By the way, I love how this has become, essentially, a module implementation frame war.

I know you can already do that, but I'm listing ideas we also don't want to lose from any potential changes well (as this has been a concern). But I will add that suggestion as well. By the way, is this thread still "Off Topic" if we're talking about something regarding site module implementation.

Do you think it would help if someone made a list of the best ideas and let someone who's familiar with the site code choose the most feasible option?
Absolutely. Currently, the needed options (from what I've read) seem to be *the ability to vote with less clicks involved (the suggested, and perhaps in the future, revised interface helps that) *the ability to vote solely entertainment or technical if one chooses to *the ability to see a list of other movies that the user has voted on (this emphasizes the idea of a personal collection, much like a favorites list on YouTube) *have the options displayed on the publication's page itself, or have it as part of a simple dropdown menu rather than a separate page (this will help those that have slower internet speeds by not forcing them to open another page) *The ability to remove your rating if you so choose *the ability to rate a movie even before it’s published Those are just a few I gather, any more ideas that we can agree upon I'd be happy to add/remove items on this list to save this thread becoming a series of letters to Santa.

Wow, Kirby, those ideas mentioned actually sound really good and would solve a lot of people's issues with voting. Why wasn't there anymore talk about it further? Or was there in another thread?

Thinking about it, the issue with rating comes down to how it's presented. We could keep with a numerical system but fashion it in a different way so that it isn't two check-boxes per subject (don't know if that's the right word). Why not a slider-like meter that displays the numerical value of your rating (even the decimals) sort of in the way the 5-star system works. I'm searching for an image to show what I'm picturing, but can't seem to find one at the moment. That, combined with not being sent to a different page, would make the line of action something like: publication page>rate this movie>one click for entertainment>one click for technical quality>send data. This at least cuts the amount of clicks in half in my view.

I've been thinking, the Tiers are based on the judge's assessment of the poll results, right? How about we tie rating the movie into the selection of the tier, this would eliminate the issue of people losing interest before the run is available to be rated (I'll admit, this is what happened to me with the new Jungle Book run. I was interested in the run during initial voting and forgot about it until it was mentioned in this thread). I'm just spittballin' here, but then again, I don't want to derail this into a conversation about the poll question/tier system. Lord knows how many hours have been devoted to those subjects. Also, I'm with ALAKTORN. There's no point in asking a publisher of any kind to publish and distribute your work to a wider audience if you're going to complain about the feedback of said audience - this is true of any creative work, I feel.
