Werster found a way to bounce of the crab in Jungle 1 on Game Gear. It saves 3-4 seconds. Here's a TAS of the level with it: https://youtu.be/-L2E_17KyIk Button File: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/52074362842371342

is the glitchy 'world 1 Start' screen due to the pause glitch or is it an emulator bug?
It only happens because of the pause glitch

Congrats to the winners! I'm happy to help with putting together the final run if it's needed. I think we (team 7) were a little bit faster on level 11, level 12 and maybe level 5 boss. There's also the potential level 7 timesave that Exonym mentioned. So there will need to be re syncing done. I haven't checked other teams segment times yet.

Nice run, especially the clips and the quick kill at the end

I tend to always look at rerecord count, but I also understand the limitations. I mainly use it when I see a new submission by a new author. The rerecord count helps me to decide whether the author realises that they should try to save every frame possible, or whether they have essentially made a LOTAD. That being said, no matter how well known the person is, the rerecord count never completely determines my opinion of the optimization, but it does help to influence it. It's a useful, but far from perfect statistic. Also, scripts change everything.

Voted yes. This seems like a cool game and an entertaining/well optimized TAS. Highlights for me were the climbing sections and the conveyor belt stage

https://youtu.be/3TZ0n-Fh8Pw Using the fall speed and a lag frame you can get through the stair. The ground is solid underneath and you can just jump into MMM. This saves about 2-3 minutes in 100% and 5-6 minutes in any%. It might possibly be PAL only, but I'm still looking into it. Here's a button file for Bizhawk 1.12.2: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/48969253993732176
That was Mad Monster Mansion early which used eggs. Since then I've done it without eggs on Bizhawk (still requires the lag frames). https://youtu.be/dcfJenQSSUQ You literally just need to remove the c-down presses for egg pooping in that button file in the quote and you can even skip Grunty text earlier. It's still PAL only as far as we know

This is an interesting run by itself, but it looks like there's also enough that was learned here to improve upon the existing any% run. Any plans on doing that?
Yes that's right, with what I've learned I can save about 5-15 seconds I think (about 70% tricks and 30% from me being better at TASing than 2016 me). My goal would be to get sub 15 minutes TAS timing, which means I have to save 3.71 plus the BIOS (a little over 10 seconds). As for now I'm holding off on any new Master System TASes while I wait for the new version of Bizhawk which will have z80 changes. I'm not sure when I'll get to any%, but it's fairly high on my list.

There's a glitch where the falling bridges can shoot you up like a spring. I was first made aware of it here: https://clips.twitch.tv/RoughHappyPicklesPermaSmug I'm not exactly sure how it works and it's quite rare, but I did it and saved some time on Bridge 1 for any%. It's about 100 frames in real time: https://youtu.be/iJXsJTuSezY I also found this related glitch where you can exceed the end of the level in Bridge 1. It's not useful: https://youtu.be/f7SdbB5cyhw

Very nice improvement. The general pace was very fast and entertaining, and it is significantly different to the RTA speedruns. Some of the glitches were very cool, especially towards the end of the run. The main highlight for me was the optimization, as you have clearly put in a lot of effort. I think this run could definitely be star-worthy in terms of optimization. I don't know the game well enough to judge the entertainment value, but it was an enjoyable watch anyway. I would personally like it if the any% TAS was not obsoleted as it's only 3 minutes, which is a huge difference and I think there should always be an any% TAS available if possible.

I've been working on a TAS of Sandcastle% (Any% with sandcastle cheats). It's not fully optimized but it's very close. I'm not going to submit it because of the cheats but I thought I'd share a WIP for those who are interested: https://youtu.be/ehVSbDGPEp4 Everything up to entering Mumbo's Mountain is the button file from me and Hyperresonance's any% progress but everything after is my inputs. I'll put up a button file when it's done. I also put a bit more info in the youtube description :)

I was working on Miracle Warriors a few months ago. I had completely routed out the game. I requested for the FM sound to be fixed for the J version and it was, but that meant that I had to start from the beginning due to desyncs. Around that time I became distracted by other projects. I'd really love to see a Miracle Warriors TAS done. If anyone wants to look into it, feel free to message me since I have lots of documents of enemy stats and routing stuff. I might continue the TAS one day if nobody else has, but it probably wouldn't be for a while. Here's a video and button file of the WIP https://youtu.be/rnYnUewuM8Y http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/48230224867532913

Thanks Bisqwit. Hopefully it was just a glitch in the Youtube player. The audio chopping at 7:10 is due to the pausing and unpausing every 8 frames to prevent the rings from spawning.

Great work on this, it's nice to see a TAS with the new glitches and it's very technically impressive. If possible I'd really like to see this published alongside http://tasvideos.org/4416S.html as a seperate branch. I really like that TAS and I feel that it is what the NSC category was originally intended to be like. Furthermore, that TAS did state that a restriction was no warp glitch in the goal choice. That being said, this is still a really interesting category and a very well done TAS. It's nice to see this submitted since it's very relevant for the RTA community. Definite yes vote from me
