I found the characters in the included games that were played to be hilarious, it may not be funny explicitly because of the TAS gameplay but the underlying game is hilarious. Also appreciated that this was originally an April Fool's submission and it was taken seriously to find an improvement. Yes vote.

I 100% agree on authorship but I think it would be good to have resyncs that get console verified to have a point reward unless we don't see a reason to incentivize that.

This would be another example of a movie that could benefit from such a rule change - the current published movie runs at the wrong framerate due to being on VBA and doesn't account for either the GB or GBC bootROM. In my resync I also encountered some lag that showed up on console and in the more accurate emulator (8:57 in the current youtube encode should lag more). It would be nice to be able to have these resyncs reflected in the official publication while maintaining the credit with the original TAS author.
I believe Alyosha has also resynced several GB/GBC movies in this way.

Speed Docs, creator of several speedrunning documentaries including most recently a world record history of The Wind Waker, is doing a charity speedrun marathon for All Hands and Hearts over two weekends in late August/early September. Prospective TASers should follow the submission guide linked below and join their discord!

Yes as long as libTAS can run a game deterministically, no matter how slow your system is to render each frame it can sync to other machines and dump the optimal refresh rate.

For UK TASers, UKSGMarathon has an Autumn event coming up with submissions open until August 20th

For long TASes, Really Really Long a-Thon might be a good option!

There are a ton of other marathons with active submissions including some specifically for minority representation, I pulled some of these from a list on Oengus. I'll try to watch and update this thread in the future when GDQ/Frame Fatales/RPGLB put up submission dates.

There are a lot of layers of complexity to this. libTAS has some level of ability to TAS Windows games via Wine, so would we want both this submission and a libTAS+Wine submission to be "Windows Backyard Baseball?" I think we probably would; the original Windows engine is also known to run faster than the SCUMMVM engine, so if the Windows version were publishable through libTAS+Wine sometime in the future, it could quickly obsolete the scumm version and it would be more straightforward for all of that to be called "Windows Backyard Baseball."
Another interesting layer is that most of the Humongous Entertainment titles have official Linux rereleases on steam using the scummvm engine, though this game specifically does not because the backyard sports franchise was spun off and is no longer owned by the same group that re-released the rest of the HE titles. In general I would suggest that the scummvm engine is the "better version to TAS" per movie rules than trying to wire up libTAS+Wine.

Yes apologies I will move that to a separate topic when I have a solution in mind and "fail" was inappropriate for the context.
About what to assign to moons, I like the idea of things that don't fit the standard categories (in other words renaming it to a Demo tier). That wouldn't align very well with nominations at each yearly awards, but perhaps the track to demo tier would be submission has non-standard category->someone nominates it at the time of submission->someone seconds the nomination->judge decides based on a vote around entertainment. Though thinking that through, I'm not sure if that's more or less elitist than having demo tier be purely up to the judge's discretion. I'd definitely want demo tier to be a thing but it seems complex to avoid movies in that tier becoming elitist.

I've attempted to bake annotations into the TAS as directed and it runs for me on 1.4.2 on the system described with the OSD options deselected (thanks slamo for the note about OSD)
edit: to be clear I'd like this to be uncancelled per the annotations being added and the 1.4.2 release.

Exactly what I was thinking, thanks Samsara. It's not a priority at all and would play too much into elitism to just make those movies publishable, but it would long term be nice to have a way for communities to flag important userfiles or some system like that.

I think this majorly improves some pain points around pretentiousness of the tiers and over-focus on entertainment/audience feedback in the initial response to new submissions for established speedrun categories. It still fails to elegantly handle games with lots of different game end glitch/ACE entry points, where game researchers tend to enjoy optimizing and looking for all these different attack vectors to exploit a game but none of them qualify for publication. I could run through all the examples for Pokemon but one that wouldn't fit in the current description is unintended warps vs ace, eg Legend of Zelda "defeat Ganon" vs "SRM" game end glitch. The way the big examples are described right now leaves out that big chunk of glitched but no ACE type movies which I imagine are intended to still be an allowable category, but I would really like some way also to appreciate movies when there are vastly different glitches from a technical perspective that all satisfy the same branch rules like ACE or no ACE/unintended warps.

I'm starting a thread to keep the community updated on marathons that they can submit TASes to. As one of the site ambassadors, feel free to contact me if you'd like help with how to submit for a marathon, but feel free as well to just get out and submit on your own. TASers -do not- need to go through the TASBot team to submit TASes to marathons, but the team's resources are available if anyone wants assistance having a run shown on console instead of emulator.
Many marathons now are more open to TAS runs being shown on emulator:

RPGLimitBreak's Questing for Glory is a great event for longer RPG TASes to shine, submissions are opening on August 29:

#tasbot is on libera.chat now as well, if you're referring to anything else the community in general is alive and well mostly on discord these days at https://discord.tas.bot

I implemented 41 TAS verifications as a test suite for Gambatte Speedrun, the goal being to note any deficiencies outstanding in Gambatte Speedrun and to encourage TAS verification as part of an emulator's automated test procedures in general.

This run is only 2 seconds and ~39ish frames away from 1:26 in the HOF, so I'm definitely going to keep diving into the routing here to see if I can find anything that would enable 1:26. So far my only other idea was around center and IT timing when entering Cerulean, I was aware an IT get for only Misty could be faster with full botting but what caught me off guard is how much time is lost to not having redbar for goldeen+Misty when centering before.
I looked at those variations because someone mentioned the Elixer above Top Hiker could be an intriguing way to fix PP issues from the 7 Mega Punches used during Misty. So now I'm still interested if something can be done with the Elixer but it doesn't look like it would involve center timing.
