It also seems notable that if the breaking strategy is ATBack, you don't need to spend a ton of time collecting cards.

http://tasvideos.org/1962M.html You mean this TAS? The one whose screenshot shows Fiery Mario shooting a fireball?

Sure, but Rika's attack does about 2.5x what Chaz does. I think it'd be worth testing if you had the time.

It really seems like you should be attacking with Rika much more in the De-Vars fight. Deban is likely a waste of time if you can just manipulate the boss to hit Rune and you certainly don't need Saner. That said, Rune ends the fight in rough shape so maybe you really do need Deban...

Is there any way to manipulate Chaz's Tsu damage? Your three shots against DF1 are for ~700, ~530 and ~630. I would imagine getting all three shots up to 700 would save a few seconds off the last combat round.

Looks good! Only thing I can think of to test is whether or not Wat is faster/better than Flaeli.

You have a little wiggle room to have Alys potentially get an attack in, but you'd have to change the macro around to do that so I doubt it's worth it.

Ok to all of the above. Would it then be possible to kill Shadowsabr on the first round? I don't know if you can manipulate Rika/Chaz to do it by themselves profitably.

Is it faster to manually have Rika fight the last round of the Juza fight? I noticed you didn't use the macro.

Watching the latest WIP now. It's not quite ideal to have Rika attack round one of the Shadowsabr fight; would it make sense to set the macro up for defense? We only use this macro for Igglanova 2, both rounds of the Shadowsabr fight and Chaossorcr, right? Seems like Rika could defend for all of those and maintain/gain frames. (You'd lose 2 setting the different macro, but I'm sure you'd gain more than two back round 1 of the Shadowsabr fight.)

Alys' vortex take much more time than Gryz' attack. By keeping Hahn alive, I might be able to cast Vision. If not, then Gryz can still withstand more of Juza's attacks
I have serious doubts that casting Vision is ever worth it in frames; you should be able to manipulate criticals and evades just by skipping frames as necessary. But try it out!

What do you mean? Get Alys killed during my fight to get the shadowblade?
Sorry, I was confusing the enemy's name, I meant to refer to Shadowsabr. Your WIP that I was working from had the battle go as follows: 1st round: Hahn dies Gryz gets hit, but survives Ripper dies Rika attacks for some reason 2nd round: Shadowsabr casts Deban Shadowsabr dies Battle ends Instead, the best manip is likely to be: 1st round: Hahn dies Alys dies: you will likely need to make her attack instead of defend so it takes one hit, and if this involves a macro she won't be faster than the Shadowsabr so it skips her turn Shadowsabr dies Rika defends 2nd round: Ripper dies, if at all possible before its turn comes up, likely via Gryz' Crash again Battle ends

janus, have you tried using Chaz's Earth on the first Igglanova? It's not considered a "boss" by the game so it's not immune to paralysis. Not killing the Xanafalgues would cost you 11 XP but that's not an issue since the Shadowblade fight alone would be enough to get Chaz to level 4. Regarding the Shadowblade fight, it might also make sense to try to get the Shadowblade to kill Alys. Chaz still won't be in danger of hitting level 5 and it'd push Rika up to level 4. She'd have one more point of str and some extra agi, and it may beneficially butterfly effect the whole run saving a turn or two here and there.

Gradius is a fantastic choice because there's nothing completely unbelievable about the run.

The use of the infinite jump glitch makes not using the grappling hook considerably less impressive, IMO.

I would be so happy to see TASes of TSS and EB for SegaCD, and could probably help with minor details once WIPs came out. If the step counter is found to work like it does in Dragon Warrior, TSS should be fairly trivial to TAS. If it's like Final Fantasy instead, it'll be a lot less pretty but still easy.

If you look very carefully around 2:05 you'll notice you can see your head at the bottom of the screen - have you tried jumping up through the pit there, or have you only tried screenwrapping when there's ground at the bottom? I wonder if you're not simply hitting your head and falling back down (even though that's not a typical occurence in this game)

Real stupid question here; why did he not turn off animations?

Might it be worth it to pick up the Heatproof case? It's right there when you're buying the MSX2, so it's not out of the way, the only question is if you need the 80 gold later on - no idea what the path looks like. I agree on the cross.
