I barely remember this... bad times in my life, but I played the crap out of this and the other tables as well. Played all sorts of games from back then, those that I just don't remember what they were... This was one of the higher quality gems, though. Thank you.

I disagree. The moment a Zelda game is involved, is the moment the run is complete garbage. The initial idea is kickass and I'd gladly follow progress.

Go for it. Someone (maybe me) should write a custom videoplayer that would play all of the videos, but only play sound from the one selected / hovered over. If you do proceed with this and make good progress, I'll look into it...

Terrible annotations, and the run has many areas for serious improvement.

I'm not usually much for hacks, but I enjoyed it. Bubbleman got some attacks in which is a rare sight indeed. +1 for Robo music. Lots of others brought back memories. +1 for Music Man. (the stage music sounds familiar - is it from anything?)

F-- YES. Need an encode without the supermusic. (Where's the script to take care of that again?)

I've share a small amount of the same concerns as others, but otherwise, I've enjoyed it and I voted.

A standing slice isn't ever used. Can that hit the clock? (I haven't tested. I'm guessing not.) There might be a couple places it could be used without losing time as well. I don't like the UFO switch. I also don't know why you killed the sword in the following level, just to get a mix seconds later for a sword?

Thanks for trying to spit your opinion as fact, anyway. This submission did exactly what I wanted it to do.

alden, no, I didn't know that site existed. I thought it was Sky Shadow based on the description from another site but it had no screenshots. With the animated gif on the site, I am pretty sure that is it. Thanks, now I have (at least the names of) all the apps and games from my childhood :) There's only one thing I am missing, which is a music file for an audio app I can't recall the name of but I have written down - MusicMaker? It was the first commercial Mac software made by the precusor of Macromedia), but it didn't seem to come with any of the versions released so it is likely gone forever...

Voting yes for three reasons: ... 2. I didn't notice any sloppiness that I didn't chalk up to the game's awful physics (although that first pause right before the upward scrolling section at the end of Labyrinth Zone seemed unnecessary) ...
If you are talking about the pause before getting the air bubble, it is necessary and I hate it. I spent quite a while looking for ways to get past this but couldn't find anything. It is possible to scroll past the screen and get to the top, but I need enough air for two more jumps (>60 frames) and unless I can find a zip, an "air pocket" like in LZ1 and LZ2 or some other major improvement in the last water area, I can't get all the way to the top before drowning.

Same. Unless it's Columns or Tetris (although I do enjoy seeing realtime 20G Tetris runs).

I've found most of them I am looking for - games like Vector Mind for DOS that were not very common yet I enjoyed thoroughly and spent lots of hours playing. How about this one: I played it on my Mac Plus, it required two floppies. It was a side scrolling space shooter and the player ship was white. I think the name started with an S but I haven't been able to find any working copies to either play or any screenshots to compare.

Especially given the author's comment that he intentionally made parts look sloppy, which goes against the principal goal of TASing.
Vehemently disagree. It goes against your principals perhaps, but in a speed-based run, speed is the first and foremost important thing to me. I could make a few parts look prettier or I could waste some time for some funnier glitches, but in the end 99% of the run would look the same, I stall in different places and (if I didn't put any time wasters in) the end frame doesn't change. Now that I think of it, should I have waited in LZ1 instead of SYZ3 just to make it look worse? I think I might want to do that now. Didn't you chime in on the MM4 issue?

when I say I could only stand to watch three minutes, I meant it. That means green hill zone.
GHZ has the most repetitive zone music in the game. GHZ and MZ have the worst colors in the game. I find it to be the most boring zone in the run. If you want to watch a braindead level that definately looks like a TAS, watch LZ2. I tried to explain the physics (some anyway, and I still ran on a bit) in the submission. They're pretty simple but very easy to deal with, but also quite limiting in what can be displayed.

weird homebrew talk
Official or not, it was released as a cartridge - real hardware - and sold to run on Famicoms. Most (not all) console homebrew is intended to be run by enthusiasts, not really the masses. I don't care too much since it's a stupid argument to me but as it isn't homebrew, a hack or a demo I don't see why it should go in that category. If you want categories so much, make an "unlicensed" category.

Yeah. Fixed. The user previously went by the username 'mega_man_3' and I still refer to him as that... all this confusion got me confused :)

The fact that they nerfed the spindash, making it unusable for a speedrun, really kills the entertainment too.
It isn't unusable, but it isn't usable in the traditional way. I still used it in the run.

reasonings behind vote
I clarify above (a little bit) why I made the run and what audience it is supposed to reach. It's fairly fun to watch just for the glitches (if I didn't know the game, I'd think that it is interesting and notable being a pirate ripoff of Sonic 1 and that there is enough random stuff to keep me entertained, plus I like Sonic-type runs) but those who played this when it hit the exploding scene years ago will find the most enjoyment.

As in, it won't get published? I don't think you get how things work here. If you submit subpar movies, the site doesn't suffer.
No, the way things work here is that rules are the extreme law of the land, even if the rule is completely wrong. (And the visible suggestion to fix these rules has been to add several more...) No, the way things work here is that a judges biased opinion supersedes everything so if the game can't naturally be rejected, a rule is used as a scapegoat. No, if it doesn't get published simply because someone doesn't like MY aesthetic choices, which I find more entertaining than a bunch of follow-the-song "dancing" or other crap, and ESPECIALLY without actually trying things themselves, then I think that goes against the nature of a speedrun and I don't want it, or anything else I am working on, submitted or published here. No time is lost where I make it look sloppy; it is still a "superplay" and it took just as much effort to make it look aesthetically sloppy without technically being so as it would to make it look somewhat polished (good luck making this game look really shiny). This is a minor protest and guess what? Sometimes, some battles don't work out in my favor. I hope this one does. But at least I've got the balls to do it instead of just getting in line and taking it. And while may be ultimately minor and insignificant, in front of my eyes it is weeding out the crybabies, the people who don't care, and the people who understand. Obviously the majority are enjoying this run well enough.
Nicos wrote:

If you're talking about frame lag, there is none except during score tally and title card screens.

Why? To extend Xkeeper, this game was published on real cartridges and sold to run on real hardware.

You could've googled? It is not a homebrew. Re: the game, I haven't played it. I'm not interested in playing it. I don't know how a 52 game run would go - especially since many are broken and / or unbeatable - but again having not played it, I'd be interested in watching a run.

For what it's worth, as part of my defiance regarding the MM3 MM4 submission debacle, I purposely made parts look sloppy if it lost no time. I understand some won't like this but this aesthetic decision was only made later into the run and is, again, a show of defiance. Some parts do look pretty bad though due to the really limited and simple engine in this game, which can't really be helped, so it may be hard to tell what is due to me or what is due to the game itself. I also understand this is a niche title. If you aren't interested in fapping to Mario and don't enjoy Sonic runs, I don't expect you to enjoy something ear grating, an eyesore, and a skin deep ripoff of Sonic 1. (But yes, no matter how you put it, it is better than Columns.) However, if you do fit in at least one of those above groups, or really like seeing glitches due to bad programming, or had played this back when the emulation scene was starting to hit it big, then you'll likely enjoy this run in some degree. And those who did play it back in the day also have the understanding of the sheer difficulty of running it unassisted... I ran this for them :)

It is also a pirate that was actually put on cartridges and sold for Famicoms. Not quite homebrew. But a hack of what? (Or do you mean hack in the traditional sense?)

It's also a game/series for which we already have many polished TASes of superior, official titles.
I guess nobody should run any platformers anymore. There's plenty of TASes published for them. Darn. I'd hope this third party game would be judged by its own merits (of which you may not find any, that's fine) rather than that of other similar in appearance but otherwise very different first party games. Also, for what it's worth, I don't recall any published or submitted runs where Mario goes through loop-de-loops or kills Crabmeats and Buzzbombers. If I am missing one, though, please point me to it.
