And in the bottom of the red room where I can't reach the top, there is a little thing (what's their name ?) that I can't kill, in a bloc. It kills me almost instantly
two hints: - don't kill it (you can't) - don't let it touch you it's the way to go.

edit: i just remembered something. remember there's a grappling block in the room before the speedboster?
oh, then it won't be possible. Sorry, I though I read somewhere that someone got the speed booster early.

Speed booster is kinda useless until after Maridia. I guess taking it after Draygon is the only viable choice due to not having to backtrack.
unless you try ridley before draygon, if that's even possible. No idea if the cost for additional item farming outweights the faster movement in maridia. pb -> space jump -> farming -> ridley -> gravity suit -> plasma -> draygon I'm not aware of any required doors opened by draygon, but I didn't check.

i'll get the space boots early, probably after the power bomb, if doing so can save enough time in the metroid room in maridia
space jump doesn't work underwater without gravity suit, right? edit: sorry, I was thinking about the room before botwoon. stupid me.

I'd like to follow your progress, even if I won't be of any help. Are you planning on doing the full amount of sequence-breaks? (well.. space jump early. maybe speed booster early, if you can scrape enough tanks.)

Iirc, you are the one that wanted the HUD/UI to be gone during speed runnings
maybe I wasn't clear. Keeping with JXQs complaint, I want the view-obstructing flashy stuff gone, not the information.

you'd have to bend your definition of "shortly" for this to come true. But I'm sure it'll be finished eventually.

I have a great idea and we'll see how much you are gonna complain later. We'll give you a motorcycle helmet and send you out to the mountains to explore some caves (no flashlight allowed). Then we'll see how light it is and how fast you can move your head. And when you are in the deepest areas of the caves, we send 10 hooligans after you with sticks and well try to see how many times you'll see your hand flash before your vision in a desperate attempt to defend yourself.
which, again, is based on the claim that "realistic" = "fun to play", which JXQ addressed several times. The situation you described doesn't sound fun to me, neither does playing a game doing the same. if reality was fun, we wouldn't be playing games, right?

About the user interface, watch SmilingJack's 22% hard mode run and see how well he would make it without the hud.
nobody said that the information in the HUD wasn't needed. On the contrary, JXQ specifically said that he wants the information. He just doesn't want the stupid view-obstructing graphical crap around the information. read before posting, thanks.

What's the deal with mother brain? After I drained her health, she zaps me so I can't move, then zaps me again. 370 energy + 4 full tanks. I get another shot with the blue circles, leaving me at 400 energy with empty tanks. next shot, I'm dead. Where's that fucking son-of-a-metroid when you need him? how do I avoid this? crystal flash during the zapping, de-equipping suits to change her calculations, emptying my energy tanks, getting my energy to a certain value, or what?

note: I never played MP because I don't own any consoles. I watched speedruns though.

More specifically, moving from single-stick with lock-on to dual-stick.
well, there's another option, meaning: make the controls actually configurable. SM did. Or, make the HUD actually configurable without choosing between "too much stuff" and "too few stuff". (Funny though, that nobody seems to turn this stuff off, at least on speedrun videos. I would.) Or, give an option to turn up the brightness. To me, the speedrun videos seem dark as well. As a result, you don't see shit on low bitrate movies. It's just a dark blur with a visor. For any debatable point, configurability is the solution to make the game accessible to everyone. They didn't. Did it improve with MP2?

Squall I don't know if you care, but I'm recording your run, so I could be able to upload it to youtube, or share it on bittorrent. I hope it will help some people :P
why? anyone trying to play this hack will have the rom and can watch the movie. anyone else will not be interested in the video. so, I think it's a bad idea to upload it. In the end, it'll only do harm as some youtube viewers will associate "TAS" with "incredibly sloppy gameplay".

watched the movie. The glitch is interesting, but the rest of the movie looked boring to me. Looking forward to a new warpless run though. by the way, "uses a cheat code" should apply, shouldn't it? Bisqwit, did you really just create a new avatar color for this post? wow.

yeah, just stay at your computer for a couple of weeks, and the nagging is gone. so's your girlfriend, but you got to have priorities!</sarcasm> my gf lives roughly 600 km away from me. We rarely get to see each other because 8 hours + 40€ for traveling each way is just too much for a weekend. Right now, I'm at my girlfriend's place. Came here after spending christmas with my family, have to go back sunday. I'm currently making good progress playing the Metroid Impossible hack. She just brought me tea and went back to her computer, playing sudoku. We both know through experience that even though this week is the first time we met since september, and will be the only time we'll spend together until around may, being in each other's face 24/7 isn't good for either of us. Plus, we're both too damn addicted to our computers to let them go for a week, but that's a different issue. Don't feel bad for wanting time without her. Although you might want to work on making her understand. Edit: Disclaimer: I'm a geek. Do not listen to relationship advice from a geek.

I'm using 1.0, that must be the reason. It desyncs in the room before leaving the wrecked ship.
As for refreshing your super missiles, just find some "easy" spot where you dont take much damage and can kill enemies semi fast. Not much of a tip buts its probably the best i can give you.
and where might that spot be? If done in the heated rooms, I'll probably lose more health than the super missiles are worth, and I didn't find suitable enemys in the non-heated area. There are those flying light-bulbs, but so far they only dropped bombs, and I need a super missile each time I enter the area. Before entering I had 9 energy tanks, 4 reserve, 155 / 25 / 30, and the other stuff you mentioned, should be plenty. "cheated" as in "slowdown, savestates", not game-shark. I wouldn't ask for help if I deliberately got me into this mess ;) I'm thinking about leaving Norfair to get a nice refill, then re-entering through the lava pit. I will have one health-refill less on my way, but I won't need to fight the torizo again, so I should be able to pass it with the same amount of crystal flashes, but without wasting Supers on the Torizo. Anyone with a better idea?

Squ4ll-, what version of the hack / emulator are you using? It desyncs for me. as for my progress.. after I was stuck for three days in a room in maridia because I forgot to re-equip the jump boots, I now managed to cheat my way to lower norfair, kill the torizo, look surprised about the "reward" for it, and reach the first non-hot room. Where do I refresh super missiles now? edit #2: merged edit into my next post

[Umihara Kawase]Plus, if you follow the advice of the publication text and try the game out a bit, it instantly becomes very impressive.
If you expect the viewer to have a working emulator and the rom around, then we need a new definition of "first time viewer". edit: I agree on the dual MMX run to lose it's star. Advanced experimental concepts aren't meant for first timers. Plus, I wasn't that impressed by the result.

let's say that if you get hit even ONCE from falling derbis or steam, you won't make it.

so, are you supposed to get that item right after aquiring the second super missile pack? If you are, I now know why I'm stuck in maridia.

read Saturn's initial post, he claims that 100% is possible. I have no idea how to get that missile over there though. Maybe there's a hidden morphball hole somewhere, or maybe he placed more than 100 items and made this one unreachable. Or maybe you just need more items to get this one. @moozooh: thanks for the hints. I noticed that the sandfalls alter your position, not your velocity, and try to press jump as long as possible anyway. But no amount of jumping or down-pressing is helping me against this conveniently placed damage source.

any hints on the underwater sand pits? from watching speedruns I noticed that pressing R seems to help when trying to jump again after landing on sand, and it helped a little. However, I never managed to jump when under a sand-fall, and I never managed to get out of the sand after going under. And there's this one jump where I either land inside the sand-fall, or I'm hit by a well-placed enemy, immediately submerging me. Using damage knockback doesn't help much either. And bombs don't work at all. I could try going the other direction, but my chances there seem even lower.

that green door just crossed the border between "making the hack difficult" and "being downright sadistic". I love this door, it proved my point :-) As said, I abuse everything the emulator has to offer. No need to congratulate me on cheating through.

JXQ: depends, I actually liked the story of minish cap. my point is: neither zelda 2d gameplay is new, nor the story, so what's the big deal?

wow, they finally made a 2d zelda game. time to get all hyped up. </sarcasm> what's so exciting about a new zelda with an old story? It's not like OoT had the greatest story ever told.
