well, as gannon is not an option, I choose Links Awakening Link to last the longest of the bunch. He's in a dream world, and you can't die in dreams, right? He also got some potent abilities, feather + sword spin or bomb-arrows. And if the action gets too hot, he can just select-glitch away and work on another power acorn.

IMHO a game where enemys respawn has an unlimited amount of enemys and can't be done with 100% kills. You'd end up in situations where the fastest way for 100% kills is by choosing a route which spawns less enemys (or manipulating luck for the same result) - thus actually getting less kills. unfortunately, I can't think of a game where 100% kills really works. The Turrican-series (jump&run) had non-respawning enemys, but going for 100% kills will take quite some detours. paperboy sounds nice btw.

in the end, gannon wins. because those stupid Links were busy killing each other. disclaimer: I'm talking about the gannon from the original LoZ's intro. That guy was never beaten, unlike that wimp ganon who gets his ass kicked by green tree-hugging kids on a daily base.

..of course, walking around during those two hours will make them last longer, since time doesn't advance during screen transitions etc. If you want to finish the first cycle as fast as possible (real-time-wise), you should avoid screen-transitions, dialogs etc. Maybe the route could be changed to minimize the time spend without ingame-time flowing, even if that means detours? I don't know the planned first-cycle-route, so this suggestion might be pointless. you decide.

1. Which is faster - backwalk or sidehop? You seemed to alternate between the two at will during the first run.
usually backwards walking, when going upwards sidehopping. For short distances sidehopping can also be quicker if it takes less time to align yourself.
4. Why don't you skip King Zora with a groundjump? Why go through the whole cinematic sequence of him moving his big fat ass so you can go through? Is that way faster somehow?
my guess is that the skip wasn't known by the time he did that part.
6. Recently saw the Adult Deku Tree run...is it possible to get inside the Deku Tree as an adult without using Gameshark's moonjump cheat? Or am I missing something as a way to do it legitimately besides groundjumping?
I never tried, but you should be able to replace moonjumping with bomb hovering if you carry enough explosives.

just like in the speedruns at SDA, most of the waiting on the first cycle can be skipped by listening to grannys storys or having the scare crow dance all day.

I love C++ because it's rough and dangerous. With java, you screw up, it gives you an exception. With C++, you screw up, you'll get the punishment you deserve! All languages should be like C++ to stop stupid programmers from ever attempting to code. Also, you can't get chicks by bragging with your java skills.

TASing in itself is to exploit ALL errors made by programmers and console programmers alike in attempt to get the fastest possible time.
you can use all existing bugs, but you should neither modify the software nor the hardware to create new bugs. Now I don't know if you see CC as tampered software (as the console is not given access to the unmodified and complete ROM image) or tampered hardware (as you zap essential wiring by partially removing the cartridge), but it's in no way an existing bug, it's a bug you create by tempering with the system. It's as unacceptable as using gameshark-like-devices.

Goron City[/b]Dondongo's (get bomb bag) Hyrule Castle (learn lullaby; this is the greatest uncertainty of the whole run) Lon Lon Ranch (get bottle from cucco game; this is required for the bottle adventure and to defect thunderbolt to Ganondorf)
hm.. while you're in kakariko village, why don't you get the bottle there? Does it have to be the bottle from LLR ? YautjaElder did the chicken game in just over 3 minutes. If you can finish the child portion without the bottle you might even do it after getting the hookshot, if that allows for shortcuts. - ignore that, the game isn't available as adult. Or is the detour to LLR faster? I didn't time it.
Death Mountain [/b] ** Goron City **This is a crucial decision - Great Fairy as an Adult
can you explain why? getting magic as a child should be faster route-wise, as you can use the owl back to kakariko. Is it required for bottle adventure to work?

My personal stance on Bottle Adventure is that it's a "severe glitch," and, because the trick is version-specific, a run using it should belong in a different category.
please define "severe" in a way that includes Bottle Adventure, but excludes all the raping done in the published run? I can understand that the version-specificness is a reason over at sda. Over here, version-specific tricks have been used in other runs, and I don't remember there being seperate categories.

On a completely unrelated note, for those that didn't see it yet, Scott has suggested an alternative Deku Tree route.

well, how do you pronounce klingon? And backwards? I wouldn't know, so chances are slim that someone will call me by that nick in real life. And no, I wouldn't call myself hacker or even hack0r. Might as well pick the nick "stupid self-overestimating pubescent kid" ;)

oh, an old thread I noticed just now.
Bisqwit wrote:
This all happened about 10 years ago, so yeah I'm carrying a nickname invented by some teenager (me). *sigh*
same here. IIRC it was around 1995, when I was 13. I was sitting at school, in one of our new computer rooms, when I noticed a classmate joining a chat room. I wanted to join the same room to fool with him, so I quickly needed a nick he didn't know. The only thing I could come up with was a 3-word-term to describe me, and picking the first letters, getting TUB. Since that 3-word-term was childish and doesn't fit me at all, I tried to get rid of that nick, but couldn't. So I changed it to Tub or tub over time, to point out that it's not an abbrevation any more, just a nick without meaning. No, it is not related to bath tubs or the technical university of berlin. And it sure is not related to teletubbies at all. I was there first! Leave me alone, all of you! Since Tub is often already registered or too short for a username, I have a second nick. I grabbed a klingon dictionary from a friend, just picked a random word and took that. I think it was written Ha'Qchor. Too bad I couldn't get rid of the trekkies, so I reversed it to be safe. rohcQaH. Means sugar or something. But still, I'm called Tub in real life, even by my brother and my girlfriend, so it's a nick that won't change anymore. Long story, stupid nick. oh, bisqwit, isn't creativity and inventing (and maybe cookies ;)) something you can identify with? *looks confused*

because, again, the star is not an award to the players, but 'movies recommended for first time viewers'. You don't tell a first time viewer "hey, look, here's 3 hours of mario stuff. Go watch them all!". You'll tell him "look, this is what we do to mario. If you like it, come back for more, we got plenty".

TSA, you're right if you're saying that this run is improvable and far from perfection. Unfortunately most of the tricks to improve this run were found after that portion of the run had been done, so it was decided that this run was just continued the way it was, instead of restarting it every time a new trick was found, thus delaying it forever. Those involved didn't expect the researchers to "run out of tricks" soon, like you do. There have been other cases were a route was outdated by the time the run was finished, but the run was still published. Nothing new here. Those runs will be replaced eventually. It's not meant to be the final OoT-TAS to end all assisted OoT-Runs. It's meant to show the "current" (as in: current when the run was started) state of OoT-tricks to those, that don't like reading those 219834392-page-topics over at SDA. And to those people this run is fast, surprising and therefore entertaining. It sure didn't meet the expectations of an OoT-guru that knows all the newer tricks, but it never claimed to do so. It also didn't aim to educate you about the game. Sorry if you were disappointed :p Another reason to publish this is the state of the emulator. It's quite difficult to configure the emulator to play this run without desyncs, so the AVI is the only way for many (including me) to watch the run. I understand your feelings about this run, but please relax. This wasn't done to compete with you, and no harm was meant.

With optimization, a 100% run would be maybe an hour, to an hour and a half longer.
compared to a non-sequence-broken run, not compared to this one, right?
And getting Epona would make this run quite a bit faster I believe. Definately faster than walking backward and such.
depends on the distance and horse location. Also, you can't use Epona in any of the areas that really matter, at least TSAs run didn't walk that much over hyrule field as an adult. Also remember that playing Epona's Song takes some time as well. for those that don't know yet, YautjaElder is currently doing a segmented 100% run on a console. His finished segments can be watched here on youtube.

well, I tried everything mentioned in the guidelines, but it still desyncs after getting the sword. Yes, 'Raw Data' is checked, however, I'm using a newer version of that plugin. Can anyone please give me a link to 1.60? I can't find it :/

that's why I voted yes, despite the judging guidelines telling me not to ;) A movie as flawed as this (no matter if the flaws are understandable or not) would have been rejected if it were for an unpopular game. The only reason to publish this is because there are lots of potential viewers eager to see what has been done to OoT. What the movie lacks in perfection, it makes up in entertainment, most of that because the game is well-known. I still don't think you should question Dacicus' no vote, as it's perfectly ok. Voting 'no' does not mean 'do the new run ASAP', but 'wait with publication until a good run is out, whenever that may be', and does not disagree with your previous post.
