After 13 straight hours of brawl, I have concluded that it is everything I hoped it would be. The only real disappointment is seeing marth still in the game!

The existing run of gods was made on the genesis, any reason you decided to go with a different version of the game?

I guess I dont really get what it is about this game that makes people automatically exclude the idea of a "fastest time, no rules run". I realize it would be on the bland side, but a total glitch fest can be fun once in a while. some of the runs for the zelda games are funny as hell, even though they basically skip to the end of the game. The run I saw looked more like someone played it by hand, and used re-records to execute the glitches. The overall quality of play was not even up to time runner standards of precision.

Low% might be a good idea. for the time being, I think I just want to get concomitant at moving around in general, so anything worth posting will be a long way off. Thanks for the input on what is verboten as far as sequence breaks go.

I'm surprised they passed up the opportunity to put in that intoxicating bubble bobble theme.

I was thinking of starting a super metroid tas of my own, but im not as familiar with this game (obviously) as many others here. the goals on one of the recently accepted runs was listed as follows: * Aims for fastest real time * Takes damage to save time * Manipulates luck * Abuses glitches * Uses no predefined saves or passwords What programing errors are acceptable for this catagory, and which arnt? It seems that several notable glitches were skipped, which means that this is somewhere between glitch laden, and glitch free. What I dont want to happen is to get part way through a run and be told that it is not in the same category.

I cant believe I paid 150$ for one of those. I dont even know if you could emulate it in any real way, seeing as how the depth of the display is what the games were designed around, putting them on a flat monitor would make it look shitty.

I hate when I know the answer but I cant put it in how the program wants it... I know #10 for example, but I dont know the exact version or whatever. Going to drive me mad!

How fast would it be? people describe the glitch in a way that compares it to the zelda 3 run, but would it be that severe? how fast are we talking?

Wouldnt NBMB be faster in realtime as well? Why would it obsolete this run as opposed to the other?

Well, how much in-game distance does each run cover, in total?
I realize that was an abstract comment, and I kind of regret making it. They complete the same game. That was the point I was trying to get across. The analogy later in that post does a much better job of doing this.

Isn't this the game where the game clock can be abused by pausing every second or so?

"Takes less time to do" != "faster"
speed is a measure of distance traveled over a measure of time. Two runs complete the same game, and one does it in less time. Which is faster? Lets think of it another way-- what if the goal was to finish the indy 500. One car did it 90 seconds faster then another one, but the other one made many interesting pit stops, and at times had a higher rate of speed. The first one still did it faster.

That could be. I really do like both of these runs, but I don't see why 2 different people now have implied that it is the faster of the two runs when they might have meant that it merely feels faster. Honestly, it just comes down to what goals people appreciate more, the actual entertainment value difference of this run compared to the other is insignificant next to their difference in goals.

39:32.8 < 41:02.4 Any doubts? They complete the same task, and one does it 89 seconds faster. emphasis on the faster. Powerups and speed should not be equated. They are apples and oranges.

I was just pointing out that he listed powerups, action and speed. The first this run has more of, the second is a matter of opinion, and the third the other run is better for. I wanted to mention that neither run has a monopoly on all of those categories.

I can see why everyone is debating about the realtime/ingame time issue, but if you look at the key factors of what makes Super Metroid entertaining (powerups, action, speed) then its obvious which run is more entertaining.
The problem is speed. There is a significant real time difference.

No, the obsoleted version made by luke never wrecked after the finish line. Not that it makes a huge difference, but little touches like that can really spice up a run.
