Question from someone who has never used a PSX emulator: are the isos/bins in the hundreds of megs range? Or are they smaller then that?

There is a lot involved, but C++ compilers can create an executable. That is almost cirtainly what you will be looking for in that department. As far as making a working rom goes, it would proove extreemly hard. People can modify existing ones with little trouble, but making one from scratch mgiht not be terribly possible.

going back a frame should be faster then going foreward one right? instead of calculating new values for some amount of memory, you simply recall them, and in both cases, you would re-render the frame? There must be something Im missing.

even with savestates I cant figure out how to get pas the singers in this game. The cane seems to do nothing, and I dont see how to pass them leaving them alive.

I just realized that the best strategy for 500 pirates is for the first to propose to give himself all 100 coins. The first 298 pirates will die if they are willing to vote someone overboard simply because they are getting no coins, so for fear of death, 297 of the first 298 pirates will vote yes to this first offer. The second pirate will vote no to it only because he could make this same valid offer should the first die. As long as the first 298 cooperate, which they will (because not cooperating will result in everyone of them dieing) then the first gets all of the coins. an argument could be made that they would hold off until the 404th pirate offers 100 to himself, because this is the last point that cooperating would save their lives. I suppose that it depends on how you read the problem.

all fractional coins would accomplish is making the solution for 10 pirates almost all for the first, 0 for the second, 0 for the third, and alternating the smallest allowable fraction for every other pirate after that. flipping a coin to see who gets it is interesting however. this should make it possible for the first pirate to get 98 of the coins, as he will need to offer 4 of the pirates (who would otherwise get nothing) a coin flip chance if winning the coin. the problem is that if you allow chance to be involved, you can offer a pirate ludicrously small fragment of a coin (on average) by saying that he would need to win many flips in a row in order to claim the coin.

and for 500 pirates, the 200th weakest should offer himself 1 the next 2 0, and alternating after thatso that he gets 100 votes and survived (a simple extention of the 10 pirate example)

the best strategy would be for the third to last to offer 99-0-1 because he can secure the vote of the last this way. this extends to 4 because the fourth because the fourth to last could offer 99-0-0-1 because the thirsd will vote against him no matter what (he can get 99 if 4th to last walks) but can get the votes of the last because the most he will get if the 4th to last walks is 1. (and one in the hand is better then vague speculation). the case of 5 is the critical one. the 5th pirate needs 2 other votes, so he needs to offer 98-0-1-0-1, because the last again will accept, and the 3rd to last stands to get nothing should the 5th walk. this pattern continues, 100-0 99-0-1 99-0-0-1 98-0-1-0-1 98-0-0-1-0-1 97-0-1-0-1-0-1 97-0-0-1-0-1-0-1 96-0-1-0-1-0-1-0-1 96-0-0-1-0-1-0-1-0-1 the best proposal for the most fearsome pirate.

Its also faster to wall jump and move through walls in a few places, it seems you played that "glitch free" somewhat. Executing those tricks optimally will probably be the biggest obsticle for Tasing this game.

Several times you had less then maximum forward movement speed, wiating on pirana plants and such. Also, in 8-4 you wait for the fireball chain underwater when you can pass underneath it if you go full speed, but are as low as possible when you get to it.

This seems to have grown bigger then it needed to be. I would be happy so long as the game was named first... the rest is nice, but that was the main point I would care about most. If the other ideas are troublesome, I would happily settle for game name first, followed by whatever.

http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4678 Some more discussion about this. I really would like to see a better naming scheme, it would make watching older movies a little more convienient.

Could be, but keep in mind that the up+down trick in link to the past needs to be pretty acurate to trigger the glitch.
