We search for perfection. To reach that goal, using the features provided by an emulator is irrelevant, as long as the “world” – the game – is unmodified.
In this case, the "world" is no longer "unmodified". It defeats the point of a TAS, and I think most of the people here know this.

Bot fighting could be interesting enough to warrant its own section. this could turn out to be a lot of fun.

QFT It was no fun to watch anyway. Good catch Dwedit... You win a cookie for unlocking the entire reason behind it as well. Im kinda amazed that this bug has not come to light sooner.

WC2 is easiest of all, the game came with a sound editor that can be used to export any sond file used in the game. Other then that, I dunno. Worst case, record system sound with all music/other shit turned off the get a good clean recording.

The better question is if a bot like this would actually save time or effort. It would be so hard to make, and so game dependent, it would probably be easier to make a TAS by hand. It would be kinda cool to see in action though.

I look foreward to seeing a run like this go heavy on fire, since the most practical thing to do if you are plaing in real time is focus on earth/water. I dont even think I have seen the higher lever fire spells.

Go for fewest frames overall. Compairing runs will be simpler, and it should give the run a more cohesive feel. Only downside is that the rout should be planned with the stars in mind, since one will be needed as an exit point. This means that the rout will not be the fastest for simply getting every coin, but would be the fastest for completing the goal of getting every coin in the game.

Something strange is afoot with blizzard. Note the name of the lead designer of the SC2 project.... Dustin Browder The man to blame for RA2, and the man we can thank for C&C generals. Seems like a strange choice on blizzards part.

Not only are the goals for this run going to be really messy, so will timeing the run. Taking the nearest star to mario after using the fastest coin rout will be slower than making a rout that ends near a star. So this will beg the question, is the goal to collect every coin in the game, (exiting on a star in each level) in the fewest frames, or will it be to time only the time spent "getting coins" in each level, and ignore the time it takes to get setup stars, or collect a star after all the coins have been collected? Either way, it just seems messy.

Besides the obvious and already mentioned random and arbitrary goals, there is such a thing as tradeing frames for entertainment, but in this run, there are things that are just downright sloppy. The eyes on the hands have time to open in the SSL pyramid star, the lobby glitch is not used, but several other iterations of BLJ are. Not that all of this together made the run more than a minute or so slower then it could have been, but it makes it look sloppy as a whole. No entertainment is gained from making things of this sort slower then they have to be. No vote.

just like most countries. the problem is that they elect presidents.
Wrong. The electoral college elects presidents, which is the sole reason Bush came to power in 2000. (he lost the popular vote)
The electoral college seems to have the intelligence of most low-class college students.
FFS, drop it already. That is not how the electoral college works, and everyone here knows it.

Funny that FFIX is the one that would be so sought after... Would probably be hours long and on the boring side. Crash bandicoot on the otherhand would not disappoint.

I agree that many americans are stupid, but I dispise the implication that it would be any different in any other country.

How is it not worth it? In a game as well optimized as this one, 6 seconds represents a significant gain. Of course you look for a way to get it sub-15, but just because it turns out to be just over 15 doesnt make it any less worth making.

You would still need to find improvements elsewhere to make up for the time, I think looking at it now, I probally wouldn't except an improvement run that doesn't beat 15 mins.
So you are saying that a run that is ~6 seconds faster isnt worth publishing...?

You indicated, that * People trust you. * You are a machinery geek. * You like hand-craft. * You are a vigorous warrior. Consider these RPG professions: 1. Swordsman Your own tools work the best. 2. Paladin / Knight You are the noblest kind of warrior there exists. 3. Summoner You like to have strong friends. Your role in the game could be: 1. An NPC You could be anyone in the game, but nobody important. Is there any combination that wont say you could be an NPC?

Sounds kind of crooked-cart-esk.. if thats the case, there is no way to emulate that at all. Besides, the whole point of a tas is to use tools to play a game at its limit leaving the world in tact. this would violate this to some extent.

Probably want to look it over just to make sure there are no further improvments, but once you have settled, may as well get it submitted.
