The real issue with that algorithm is that it would correctly measure what is accessible and what is not, but it would be hard to make it find the best path to each block. the order you checked newly labeled as accessible blocks would be key.

is there a good way of doing it that does not involve looping over all corners? I wrote most of an basic RTS at one point, and everything worked like it should have except I could not find a good way of dealing with movement around obstacles, especially when other units are in motion as movement starts. any idea how its done in commercial games? I suspect they calculate the whole map down to distinct zones, each with a simple process to get to the others, then something similar to what bisqwit posted for fine pathing within each area, but even this seems far too computationally expensive to be practical.

I never really thought about it, but I do miss DOS. I support any movement that brings it back~!

I honestly don't see what people hate about OSX so much. My problem with macs comes from the more costly and more limited hardware options due to it being sold as a predefined unit (by and large). The operating system itself is fine. Also, safari sucks so hard it makes IE look usable. That is a real accomplishment.

Luck manipulate by starting the simulation, and checking to see if everyone on earth died, then restarting. Because the outcome is based on the randomness of quantum particles, each trial would be unique, so in some theoretical sense, it could work. Also-- I realize how silly the idea of "no luck manipulation" is, but luck manipulation could literally cause anything that could happen, to happen, And thanks to quantum mechanics, almost anything could happen. It it basically limitless.

If you could really luck manipulate perfectly, you could use uncertainty to allow the conditions to be met instantly. I.E. every person on earth dies instantly because all of the electrons in their brains coincidentally ended up outside of their skulls. Better condition would be no luck manipulation, necause stupid things can happen given astronomical odds.

Looks really nice to me. I look forward to seeing how this turns out.

The museum in thief: deadly shadows. Lots of loot for the taking, complicated guard movement made it a fun level no matter how you played it.

And the frame drift will only get worse with movie length. A game like guitar hero is just about the easiest case for this with respect to sync, and if even that took multiple tries to achieve sync for only one song, I would not hold out much hope. Neat trick though.

The issue is that if the device delivering the input has no feedback from the device accepting it, there is no way to sync 100%. Even small amounts of lag from ether device would lead to a de-sync, and there is no real way to prevent it. The only reason synchronization can be achieved in any setting is that one unified program is reading the input, and making use of it. One solution could be if the input device could be attached to a mod chip in such a way that it could check the state of system RAM, it might be possible to figure something out that way, but as far as an independent device would go, my money would be on constant de-syncs.

That was really, really impressive. My jaw hit the floor when I saw how accurate the sliding down to the lake was. My understanding is that you can't change direction in that form of the sliding glitch, so is there some trick to hitting that ladder? or was that just a whole lot of work? or both? Either way. awesome.

I also have a Mac classic, along with the laser printer that went with it (really costly back in the day) but my game collection is not really anything special. I was in the habit of pawning all of my games and the matching console every time a new generation came out. It kills me to think I sold 35 NES carts for 2$ each, knowing that some of them are valuable now. I even had most of the matching boxes, and almost all of the instruction books that came with them. I wish I had kept my game collection as intact as my old Magic collection. I really wonder what its worth these days. I imagine quite a bit.

Bad strategy in the mario segment too. Better to die to get all 50 coins in 1-1, save more time for tetris.

Like I said, might not be worth caring about as it seems to only happen in easily avoided situations, but I just thought you might like to know. I'm not sure I ever really got to say it, but I really do like the appearance of the new layout. I think it turned out rather well.

Was able to replicate it. Seems to happen at several resolutions, and only in IE. Note that the effect was even worse on the other computer. "on the left" was a bad description, but you can see what I mean. Admin can feel free to resize if you know a way to do it gracefully...

I am writing this from a public terminal, and I noticed that on the 15 inch LCD here that the names of the movies run into the screenshots on the left. Needless to say, on my monsterous CRT at home this does not happen, but here it just makes it look unreadable. Might not be anything to care about, but the fix might be simple if the text is made to wrap if the resolution used is too small.

Reminds me of that anecdote where NASA spent thousands developing pens that worked in zero gravity, only to realize the Russians used pencils.

I hope you go through with it, I would look forward to seeing it. You have a good point about the entertainment value, comparing it to the other final fantasy installments, so I guess it wouldn't be too surprising if it were published. I wonder if the fastest option will be to only have 1 char like the SDA video. Later in the run it takes several casts to clear the map out, so having 2 would help, but it would come at the cost of leveling a second. Might be worth investigation, but I sort of doubt it.

Keep in mind that the calculator strat would still probably be fastest, much time would be saved from more precise damage dealing; having it only hit needed targets rather then hitting every mob in the fights where the goal is to kill only the leader. The overall slowness of the game might really hurt the entertainment value, but it would be worth exploring.
