Blarg. We need a newer emulator with rerecording support. Famtasia screws up on a lot of games. =/

As far as controllers go, I'd have to say Sega has had the worst run: SMS, Genesis, SATURN... man that Saturn controller was crap. DC wasn't so bad though. If Microsoft is the bad guy now, they're pretty lame bad guys. I've been playing oldschool NES/SNES/SMS/Genesis games on my Xbox without a hardware mod for the last few months. Once you get used to it, the XB controller is much better than a PC gamepad for emulation, and there are shortcut buttons for fast-forwarding, etc. Obviously this doesn't work for recording yet, but soon I hope they implement it.

Both games look to be completely identical except for the title screen. I also didn't see much room for improvement in your run, Sjoerd, aside from taking damage one time. I doubt I could shave off much time from it, if any. Great run!

Oh, cool, I'd always heard that there was no release for the game outside Japan. I'm gonna check out Little Samson and see if there are any differences.

Hi. My name is Ryan, I've been a long time watcher of the speed run type video, and decided to have a crack at it in TMNT. Anyways, I feel I've been doing real good. HOWEVER, I happened to get to the Door leading into the fight against the Technodrome. Whenever I go into the door though, The game suddenly freezes. Any help would be helpful. I can send someone my save state if that would help. Just let me know Thanks. Ryan

I don't consider score-counting, cut-scenes and such to be part of the run. Only gameplay is, if u understand what I mean... But hey, that's me. =)

Well... they had a website. Outside of the few songs they had up on there I've never heard of them, though, so it's possible that it no longer exists. Shame if it's the case, they're pretty talented.

Ah. Makes sense, I guess. If there were a vocabulary specific to this subject in wide use, though, it would certainly keep such arguments from starting.

I can't remember the URL of their website, and when I searched I didn't get any better results than you did. If you like, hit me up on AIM and I'll file transfer it to you. My screen name is "diabolus magus". There should be no legal problems sharing this MP3 because it was downloaded from the band's website. EDIT: I forgot that my AIM settings only allow people on my buddy list to IM me. Anyone interested in this file can PM me here on the boards with their email address and I'll send it as an attachment. If you're concerned with such things, I do use an antivirus to scan all incoming and outgoing mail.

Has anyone else here heard of/played this game? Great animations for its time, but as far as I know it was only released in Japan. Thinking about doing a speed-run for it.

For those who can't stop taking offense yet, how about we add a new phrase to the speed-run lexicon: clean run. A very clean run would be one where the player doesn't waste bullets or make unnecessary jumps. On the other hand a not-so-clean run would be something like Genisto's Contra video. I don't want to say it's "sloppy", which is what you'd think of as the opposite to a clean run, because I sure as heck don't have the time to do it as well as he does... I digress. To clear up semantic issues, shall we use the phrase "clean run" or "cleaner run" to describe a playthrough with fewer unnecessary actions?

I haven't seen that version of the video, but a band called "Vomitron" did a heavy-metal version of the Contra theme. Perhaps that's it. Even if not, it's awesome, and I recommend checking it out. Y'know, if you like that sort of thing.

Does anyone know if there is an English translated version of the Japanese Castlevania 2? The reason I ask is that it's different in some ways, harder, and most importantly it has a save feature instead of passwords.

actually strider is more fun to watch than you'd think...There are numerous glitches in the game...I did a run of the first level alone and utilized several...Some like being able to bounce off of a spike and land on a platform 10 feet above, walking through spikes casually without getting knocked about, horribly funny distorted graphics when you slide in certain places...The game is so buggy its full of surprised...As for Metal Gear, that appears to have the most interest...So, I will leave Strider at the first level for now and try for Metal Gear...The game is super easy, with the only annoying parts being a few maze sections that repeat if you go the wrong way...Oh how I hate those annoying things...:) If anyone wants to see the first level of Strider, just message me on KMFDManic on aim and I will send you it...I will make a Golgo 13 one too and goof off in the early levels as a start. Now off to Metal Gear. So many funny things you can do in that game.

I just wanted to point out that people could possibly cheat while doing time attacks. I know that it's possible because you can just quick save etc. and then just restart continually. Also, there was a guy that beat super mario brothers 3 really fast and his video is on eBaums world; however, he even admitted that he cheated to do it. He says he used an emulator and ran it at 1/30th the speed and used quick saves frequently. Then if he died he just loaded it back up. What do you guys think about this?

I read all of the questions and answers, but didn't find the question I was trying to ask. Which is: can these files be converted to windows media player? I ask because, I would like to download these and have them easily accesible for most computer users. Rather than having to go through many different processes just to do them. Any answers would be great.

I will probably ignore Gauntlet for now since another is already working on it...The only thing I have actually attemped in the way of Gauntlet is to do the first stage without fighting a single enemy, nor getting hit...See if you can do that...lol... How far have any of you even gotten in Golgo 13? Personally, while it is certainly not the toughest game, it is fairly tough to avoid being hit 100 percent...being that the hit detection in the game is horrid. The backtracking in Strider isn't so bad...And, if you think about it, are not many of today's most popular games all about backtracking...? ie-Metroid series, Castlevania series...and, so on...I fired up rambo again last night for old time's sake, and let me tell you...The game does not hold up well after time...It is such a ridiculous game to waste time on at all...But, at least Willow is still fun...So, I will most probably start off with Metal Gear, Golgo 13, and Metal Gear, based on your guys' wants...:)
