well, I was thinking of vcd quality. I have put a movie on a vcd before and it looks good( think it was super mario bros 3) .Tmpenc is very good at making nice mpeg quality. Maybe it would be possible to put 6 hours on a dvd. Make some videos mpeg2 maybe, is it possible to mix and match? Cause I think some videos like nes videos only need to be in mpeg1 quality. DVD R's are really getting cheap too.

No, thats not what I really wanted I just wanted all of the TAS videos of all on dvd-r isos, but you can do that anyways because I want to see the super mario 64 thing too. Anyways good luck to you. But I would suggest TMPGEnc any version software or mencoder. Mencoder I don't know how to use.

I've had the idea for a long time already to try and make a DVD with scene selection and other special vids for the Super Mario 64 120 star run. No promisses though, i'm just gonna try, doesn't mean i'll succeed...
Alright, thank you, can you give us the details on how you are going to do this so we know what you are up too?

It's not really a huge project, it would just be lots of batch encoding time. Plus dvd quality is unnecessary, vcd quality would be best.
Yeah, whatever is necessary, I probably could do it myself If I free up hard drive space on my computer and downloaded all of the files.

Gather all of the TAS movies so far(31 GB), encode them on dvd-format make the iso's then upload all of the ISo's on a torrent. Make easy to use menu's and upload all the dvd-r isos on the tracker. I know this is a huge project but it would be well worth it in the end. If someone is willing to do this that is. IF anyone knows how many hours all of the current TAS's equal please let us know.

Then go watch a diffrent TAS and stop complaining about it. Back walking is fastest way to move and if you don't like it its too bad.

not impossible to duplicate on a emulator, I ended up loading a diffrent save state for a diffrent version and that enabled crooked cartridge mode.

Pretty much means that they can get away with it, and that guy that made the super mario 64 movie on youtube and made the edits could of gotten away of just keeping the video on there without getting in trouble.

I'm typing up actual constructive criticism for the run, and sending it to Guano and I'll post it publicly. But I am giving the TAS the full amount of attention I give the other runs, but this is a longer run, so it is taking me some time to break it down. That is why I have not posted the comments yet. I'll probably watch the video 4-5 times more before I really have them done. So please be patient, I have "helpful" cricitism coming. Hopefully it helps Guano or whoever out. To whoever compared my 4:57 run to the TAS, you broke the cardinal sin of speedrunning. Do not ever try to fricking compare "skill" with the two. A TAS shows a different type of "skill" than a speedrun. If you start debating this, it will end up in a flame war...
Yes, I definatly agree with that with speed runs and TASes cannot be compared. But I know most of mistakes also 1. Didn't do the super glide as child Link, but it was too late for him to do that. 2.Didn't use the bomb jump in Forest Temple. 3.As for bottle adventure stuff he wasnt going to do because he was doing mwl's route. I think these 3 are the major time savers that we know of and anyways people are always finding new glitches. you can't expects guanobowl's tas to be perfect because its the first tas and its was first meant as a test run. He just wanted to do it to get it out there because there wasnt a lot of 64 tas runs. <Halamantariel> well in my opinion TSA expects TASes to be absolutely perfect But go ahead and help him out but he is working on other TASes He is probably well aware of most of mistakes but he was in a hurry to get it out and finished.

According to the votes not many people agree with you TSA. Majority rules 60 votes said yes and I'm one of them and I do find it entertaining. Obviously its just your opinion, but many people disagree with you. Which is a fact not an opinion according to the votes. So don't get mad when people don't like what you said. Plus, just because you and only you don't like it and get mad over it and don't want it published doesnt mean it should not be published, Guanobowl spent a lot of work on it. Don't act all high and mighty and think only your opinion matters and thats why the movie shouldn't of been published.

Don't DUH! me ... I said that in the post where I talked about watermarking ... I said that the only way to steal in the future would be to re-encode the movies.
gotch ya,sorry about that. Sometimes I read bits and pieces and I'm too lazy to read the whole thing. But these people are so lame, the nerve of them to edit out the disclaimer then go ahead and put their own watermark, I think they should definitely get in trouble for this. This is just like stealing a faq from gamefaqs and not giving credit for who made it. This is utterly pathetic. Yeah , its free to download and use from the internet, but you should never re-modify something that isn't yours and discredit who made it.

yeah really, they will always find away to remove the watemarks even if they use photoshop. I don't like the idea of watermarks cause it takes pixels away from the movie. There is always going to be someone that steals things. PLus all they would have to do is put a watermark over your watermark. Plus another thing, they could just make their own avi movie from the rom and then emulator movie file DUH!

NIce job Bisqwit, you kept your word. But if I were you I would of choose a picture with Child Link looking at Ganondorf on his horse, that would of been the best picture.

Yeah, out of all those three I would vote for the top one. This Tas is almost ready to be published. As I'm about to go to bed. <HiddenGamer> The one that is almost done with the passes, how long will that take to encode? <Bisqwit> Enough for you to be asleep when it's done

At least I don't resort to calling other forum users things like that.
Just an observation, no need to get all defensive. It's not like I brought the subject up in the first place.
No, you are the flammer Fabian and isnt that against the rules? mwl is a helpful person on this forum and all he did was help Guanobowl, all you did was insult people? Stop acting like that.

I apologize if I sounded harsh in my previous posts. It's not my intent to upset anyone. SectionX, if I get some time in the next few weeks, maybe I'll write my own commentary for GuanoBowl's run. I hope to make it text-based, and actually explain things so that people who aren't familiar with OoT can understand what's going on.
Make it audio commentary using a mic maybe and we can add these audios to an mkv or maybe Bisqwit will make the avi and then use avi mux to easily put it to a mkv and put the extra audio commentary tracks on that, now that would be cool

nah, I don't understand why they would be upset about that, its the otherway around , their complaining about someone backwalking to save time on A TAS is annoying, because that is what you are suppose to do on a TAS to save time. So complaining about that is dumb. If they want to view the video game being played by an ordiary gamer then they should go somewhere else. This is TASVIDeos, not WE,need,to,entertain, you,in,a,certain, way, while, beating a video,game,in,your,standards.VIDEOS. If they should complain about something I personally think they should complain about how Guanobowl's TAS could be improved to save time instead of how they disapprove of something that should be in there to save time.Duh! and is mwl said

I don't see insults in this thread, I just see criticism. We know it's work, and you spent a lot of time on it. Don't feel discouraged if your first attempt is flawed and not as helpful as intended *hands HiddenGamer a certain triforce piece* :p oh, @ nightcom: http://www.jaytheham.com/zc/oot.php?page=ootba
I was pointing more towards some of the people irc, but thanx for the input.

There are only 2 codecs that seem to record well and they are Microsoft H.263 Video Codec and Microsoft H.261 Video Codec. All the other video codecs cause slow down during recording and when I finish recording it there's slow down during the video too. The two codecs I mentioned above have no slow down during recording. I start the AVI dump and save the file and choose one of those two codecs I mentioned above. Then when I'm done and choose to stop the AVI dump it automatically takes me to the same area to save my file again. So I end up with no video because there's no way to get past that.

Aww, look at all the bad stuff this poor guy had to put up with from you, just because of what his dick step brother did. :( It's just like what happened to omniswarrior, and Cinderella. I think this line says it all: "Maybe now I can return to a normal instant messaging lifestyle."
yeah , I doubt I believe that stuff he said about his step brother doing this after watching the video and alll those comments. Pff yeah right, he probably enjoys all the attention that is probably why he did it.

Is there a way to edit that Zelda trick page there is a much better way to do the "fish holding down a switch trick". I tried to emphasis that it could be done without the bottle dumping animation. Simply 1. Empty fish and capture 2. Back flip and press bottle fish button in mid air, then press the B button 3 . Link will land and hold the sword in his mouth and it'll make it a fully playable ocarina 4. Press B again to cancel playing ocarina animation 5. Door or event will stay successfully open
Thank you , yeah I'll have to try that one. So the door stays permantly open?

During the first capturing pass, I managed to render 3 GB of 640x480 video (with 6x FSAA). I don't see why so many people were having problems encoding files this large in Mupen 64; arguably, the file didn't have an index block and had to be fixed before it could be used by any media player, but it still works. I'll capture the rest tomorrow, and then I'll encode it to H.264.
Yeah you got lucky that happened to me on my 4 gb file, I could fix it with virtualdubmod and get some stuff out of it, but sometimes it doesnt work right.

Yeah, I just got done saying in my reply that I stopped it because I think peoples computers would have a hard time playing it and I might need to reencode it to reasonable size. Plus last night when I was seeding it the power went out in the whole house and I waited for it to come back on for about 30 mins and it didn't , so I said the heck with it and went to bed. Just wait for someone else maybe to encode it or maybe I will reencode my encode.

a 2h30m avi can easily look ok at 400MB if encoded with x264 3-pass at 320x240. My ganon video a few pages back was 300kbit/s ad looked fine, a 400MB avi would be 350kbits. for capturing, it should be 640x480 with nothing, or 320x240 with antialiasing. I'm not getting the video and I can't encode one myself because of a desync on child gerudo/colossus. Just trying to help the next one who wants to try to make an avi that will be accepted.
Yeah very true that is why I stopped seeding the one that I had, the bitrate is pretty high. I think I might reencode it later at 320x240 at 350 kbits. As for the antialias it should of been on as default on the plugin cause when I was capturing it I didn't really notice anything bad about the quality. The capturing part is the hardest part. I'm not going to redo that part. And a lot of people seem to insult me about the video for all of my hard work so I don't know if its worth it to share it on the internet. As for the 3pass thing that would take forever. I just want to watch the dang thing. As for people complaining that I didn't read the guidelines at the site, well I wasnt really planning on making this video for the site I was just hoping that maybe he would accept it, I just wanted to make the video for everyone else. If mupen had something that it would split the avi files every 1.5 gb then I might recapture it. Otherwise the avi files seem to get corrupt at a certain size with h264 lossless. Plus it wasn't my computer that I was capturing it on, I can't hog about the computer forever because its not mine.

yeah , if it wasnt for him that video would of remained up for a longer while then it should.
