It's been a while since I visited this page the last time (like half a year or so?), but it seems like I came back just in the right time to see this great new movie I thought I knew almost everything about this game, but in every level you surprised me again, and I'm only half way through it... How many hours did you spend to perform all these walljumps? I know I did spend quite a few, and never succeeded at it... Hats off! Btw I'm happy to see that the SMW thread that I started almost 3 years ago is still used... must take a few hours to read all the 63 pages :D

Very good indeed, I'd be surprised if this can be improved much more Just one question: Why did you get 14 stars in Misty Isle 3? I expected you to get 99 stars in the end, but this was the only level where you touched the bar

I wouldn't really mind, but I wonder why it is a problem to just redo it yourself (with your own style) and then hex it into the current run?

My last.fm profile My favourite genres would be Nu Metal, Metalcore and Emo, but I also like some older stuff like Metallica or Dream Theater. Lately I've listened a lot to Mindless Self Indulgence, which is a crazy mix of techno breakbeats with metal riffs, really cool :)

Just wanted to tell you that I'm really curious how this will turn out :) It's been almost a year that I did this run, and I haven't played the game at all for more than half a year I think, so I won't be of much help. You've probably read all my comments about the run already, especially the things that I considered improvable back then. So many new tricks that have been discovered since then... I'm looking forward to it :) *sigh* did I kill this thread? :(

Hehe a nice glitch, never heard of that before :) Btw I had another idea when watching your 120exits run: You carried that message block along in Castle #3; why didn't you activate it to get rid of the water? Flying is a lot faster than swimming, isn't it?

Then nevermind, I just had this idea when I read about your problems with that lava hill. I had a similar problem in Vanilla Dome 3, and there it could have been solved with Yoshi's help.

no no, don't touch my precious SMW96 run ;) I had another idea for Bowser's Star World (the level with the skull raft). Would it help if you bring Yoshi along? Then you can fly with him, and jump off him at the highest point. Maybe that's enough to get over the lava hill?

According to this fastest star times page the Red-Hot Log Rolling star in LLL is extremely fast - is this only possible with the red cap, or why don't you do that? Apart from that, awesome! :)

I think you misunderstood me Right now only you 2 are watching the movie and looking for possible improvements. So, chances are quite high that you might overlook something (especially when watching your own play). And when you later present a 2 hours movie to the whole community, people will be overwhelmed and can't look for possible mistakes anymore (and you will probably not be in the mood anymore to fix it). Just from my experience... but it's up to you

If I understood it right, this trick only applies to running speed. And as ~ 80% of the Mario runs contain flying, the time improvement wouldn't be that much, I think

Very nice movie so far. Sometimes makes me want to take the controller into the hands again, but it seems like you two are already working together very well. Two things that come to my mind: - When you dive down to the key room, you stick at the right wall. Wouldn't it be faster if you move from the left to the right, so Mario already has some forward speed? - And after you climbed through the hole in the wall and run above the screen, instead of just running to the right, could you fly to the right? I know that's pretty hard, because you have to throw and catch the key and don't see anything at all, but that would definately save some time Btw, when I made those segmented movies for my SMW video, I usually ended one segment after Mario entered a level (1 lonely B button press in the hex code), and started the new segment before Mario entered this level (also 1 lonely B button press, usually somewhere around offset 95000). This made it very easy to merge two segments into one later on, just overlap those two singel B button presses (and add some extra time in the movie, this was done by manipulating one of the values in the first 20 offsets, don't remember which one). Oh and btw, you're not going to remake the first 4 levels with flagitious' glitch, are you? (Don't say you didn't see this coming, I warned you about it!! ;))

Desert World 2b looked very nice! I liked that you didn't need to carry the grey P-Switch, wouldn't have thought that the time is enough. You do a kamikaze dive quite often; do you always check that you get back to the fastest flying speed afterwards?

I think you are supposed to use a star in the last Big Boo level (before the Tower). But it's not really needed, just watch my video :P

are you sure that you beat Iggy Koopa as fast as possible? I think if you compare it with the current SMW11 run, it's a bit slower.

The problem with Super Demo World is the lags. Especially the crystal and snow levels tend to slow down the game enormously. In the original Super Mario World, the only time where I noticed a lag was in the Sunken Ghost Ship, and I think I reduced it to a minimum. But in this game you have lag in almost every level, and now the problem is: Should one try to avoid the lag (at the cost of entertainment? e.g. flying over the level instead of killing enemies), or simply not care about it and only go for the fastest level completion counter (as the lag doesn't count for the ingame time)? I would vote for the second, although that makes it hard to compare two movies timewise...

yes it is a different movement - I don't know the Metroid or Zelda movies so I can't comment on that, sorry :P after the first three levels the glitched run was ~ 80 frames faster than the normal run, so it's up to you to guess how much shorter the final video will be (Although I don't know if the trick only applies to running or also to flying)

well maybe "ugly" is the wrong word to describe it :P it's hardly visible if you watch the end-product... but it's absolutely impossible to recreate in real-time, and I don't really like this idea. but I don't want to reveal it, flagitious found it out so he should also present it :) I guess the answer for the 11/15 question is quite trivial: Gorling accidentally called it an 11-level-run, because the shortcut version of Super Mario World only needed 11 levels :P

hmm, I suggest before you put more work into this, you better wait for flagitious new SMW11 run. He sent me his WIP some months ago (just before releasing his other run), and it displayed a new sensational bug (well actually I find it quite ugly, but it's very time-saving). But I promised not to give this WIP away, so I'm still waiting for him to publish a new run... has anybody had contact with him in the last time?
