You cut your run by another 17 seconds? Nice! As far as sticking with the PAL version, at least you used FCEU so that it will play at the correct speed.
As I said in the submission text, I'm opposed to do it as NTSC because it would be weird and IMO a lame way to cut out another ~5 seconds.

BTW, the other format is NTSC, not NTCS.
Heh, crap. I'll change it. Thanks.

That's what I tested. From where Mario leaves the ground, at his highest point, and down again. It takes 53 frames. I've tested it 3 times now with frame advance.

53 frames? less than a second?? sounds like a small jump for mario
I'm pretty sure it took 53 frames.. unless it were 153. I'll check it again later. Edit: I just checked, it is 53 frames, small or big Mario doesn't seem to matter.

>if you hold down jump how long (in frames) does it take mario to land again? I had to try this ;P If Mario (in SMB1) makes a full jump standing still it takes him 53 frames to hit the ground again. 100-153 >How high does a star bounce? I tried this too and I got those numbers: 477 -502-503. I think the star was at it's highest point at frame 502 and 503 (it seemed to move one pixel to the right at the time). So if one pixel is one frame the star should bounce 35 pixels up in the air. Uhm, I'm not 100% sure of this because I tested it quite briefly, but well 95% sure ;P

Edit: I was about to ask whether to use death-as-shortcut or not in the full run of this game, but I hadn't tested some new stuff out so ignore this post. Sorry =/

I did not know that. Hmm, isn't it sort of like Lemmings also? That each human (or if it is only one) has a few abilites for each new level, like placing out ladders or something like that? While avoiding evil beasts and stuff like that.

Heh, yeah that might be true, but on the other hand it can be easier to ask questions first. Also, I don't have the Gen-emulator and I won't get it because I don't really know that many Genesis games. I'm more of a NES-person. Oh well, I still hope it is that game though ;)

Is this the game with cavemen and it's puzzle-like? I played this game for PC years ago and I remembered it to be really hard but yet very funny! I guess that that's the WIP? If it is this game I hope you finish the run ;)

Oh.. You are right. Crap. I totally missed that, even though I saw that it was the GBA-forum. Uhm, I guess you should ignore my previous post then. I don't know any GBA-games that I can recommend either. Sorry.

-Mystiq Quest would be awesome to see. It's a Zelda-like game. I think it's a side track of the Final Fantasy serie (maybe Final Fantasy Mystic Quest) but my cartridge only says Mystic Quest ;) -Gargoyles Quest would be nice too see also. It's not the same game as the one for NES. It's a really good adventure game. Oh, and there are also great puzzle games, such as: -Boxxle. This is a Lolo-like game but with no enemies. Ok, it might not sound very exciting but the game is darn hard and I think the music is pretty cool ;) you put boxes around to get to the stairs (exit) in each level. It wasn't many but those are the ones I can think of now.

I don't remember all levels in my head right now for the 12-exit (or how many there is) but I think flying is only needed in Star World 5, the long one with a huge gap that can be crossed with a bridge of coins. This is because I don't think the coin bridge will make it all the way to the key hole, and since you don't have visited any switch palaces at that time I think you must fly up here. Else you can use Yoshi as a good boost. Like the Soda Bridge's secret exit. I found it easier to use Yoshi than flying. Just drop him in the hole while jumping under the first goal post.

Giana Sisters was a total rip off from SMB1 to Commodore 64, if I'm not entirely wrong. I've never heard of the game to NES though.

I have some dream-like memories of having played these games as a kid. I would love to see them since of what I remember, it was a fun game.

In the situation with Phil and Sleepz, it is more like the waiter saw the money on the table and decided to leave it there until tomorrow when he comes back for his next shift. If it is not there when he comes back he doesn't have as much right to complain. Yes the money is his and the guy still took it, but the waiter just left it sitting there. The same is true here. Sleepz had no intention on working on this game again so I think it is fair game for anyone else to do so.
So if Sleepz had mentioned somewhere that he might had intentions of making a new TAS it would have been totally different?

The tip belongs to the waiter who served that party. The author of a TAS doesn't own the right to having his movie be the published run.
Of course not, but this was more in a "manner-way" rather in a "I'm-the-author-forever-moahaha-way". What I meant was that the feeling of slight frustration might be something like that.

I don't know if anyone cares anymore but I thought of an allegory which I think illustrates one side of this. What if you work as a waiter or waitress in a restaurant of some kind. One of the great things about this job is that you sometimes get lots of tip. As usually (because you don't want to trouble the costumer) you leave him alone when he is about to pay so he can decide if he really want's to leave any extra money or not. Now he walks away and the money is there on the table. Now, what if some evil person comes in and takes your tip while you wait for your customer to get his ass out of there, wouldn't you get mad at that person? It's not really your money because they are there on the table and free for all, but it's not really that bad mannered persons money either since they were meant as tip for you. You surely wouldn't die because of the loss of those few money but one simply doesn't do things like that (except this person on Ricki Lake who actually stole tip!). If I should apply it to frames I guess it's becoming slightly reversed, the more money left and stolen = the fewer frames of improvement. So what I'm trying to say is that this also is sort of sportmanship and manner. And this could also depend on what run it is etc.. I hope that made sense ;)

They were all improved by a quite large amount of time though and not by a few frames. I still wish I could have done them myself though.

Seriously, if this is what TAS making is all about now, I don’t even see the point in making them anymore. Who cares about making cool videos when we can compete over who can scavenge for the most frames instead
If having a run obsoleted in this way gets you this annoyed, then don't submit anymore. Problem solved. Competition in this way is inherently part of making a TAS, whether you think it should be or not.
I enjoy(ed) doing runs. But why should anyones hard work (maybe a week just to plan a route) be spoiled by someone who finds a frame of improvement and just copies the rest? It annoys me a bit, yes.

I'd vote for usage of glitches, but on the other hand it might be much less work with the SNES version and overall the result might be the same. I thought the idea that Spoony_Bard had sounded awesome. Seeing all Mario games (the 4 in SM All stars) completed as fast as possible would be awesome. A long movie maybe but still awesome.

6/15. Does the SNES version include those glitches like walking through walls?
