Most probably staged.

So, we should throw CRAP (Crappy, Ridiculous and Pointless) TAS's into a new "Demo" category instead?
I think that even if a new demo category is set up (which is not something I or most other people here are opposed to), I still think that the entertainment value of such demos should be pretty high. They should be fun to watch all the way through.

That's exactly my point. How does the average user supposed to understand how movies are classified if site maintainers need complex charts to do so?
There's a difference between assigning categories and just reading them. The average user can easily understand what the symbol means, but the rules on which symbols go to which TAS can be more complicated to those who have to categorize them. If you are reading movie or game reviews, you don't need to understand what are the underlying principles by which they assign scores to them. You just need to know that higher score = better movie/game.

Luckily, this argument mostly doesn't matter anymore, since boring TASes can go in the Vault.
Are we now accepting anything that anybody submits? There are no minimum standards? I mean, like, completing the game or something. If I submit the fastest run that makes Link perform the Chicken Dance, it goes automatically to the Vault? The fastest run that makes him stare at a recently painted wall to dry? We no longer consider game choice as a reason for rejection, but surely we still consider goal choice? There has to be some rational limit to what's accepted. (My point is that if a non-game-completion goal results in a 5-minute run where 90% of the run is boring and causes people to skip it, I think that's rather telling about whether we should accept it or not.)

Question: I know that the game just repeats endlessly, but are all the levels completely identical to each other?
No. There are different types of levels. The only difference about them is single player and multiplayer and the three rocks at the bottom move.
In that case I think it would be better if this TAS played several levels instead of just one. Yes, the chosen ending point would be arbitrary, but I think we can very well make an exception to that principle in this case. It would be much more interesting if this played at least 3 or 4 levels (if they indeed are slightly different from each other.)

Pro: The theocracy has been set back by another four years. Con: We will have to listen four more years all those stupid conspiracy theories by the "birthers" and whatnot.

The encode that shows all the bullets makes a huge, huge difference! Thanks. Question: I know that the game just repeats endlessly, but are all the levels completely identical to each other?

In seriousness, I've never understood this complaint. If part of a run is boring, SKIP IT. No one is sitting there forcing you to watch 100% of a TAS.
If you have to start skipping in order to not get bored (especially if you have to skip something like 90% of the TAS), that's a quite strong indication that there's something wrong with the entertainment value of the TAS.

The Streets of Rage 2 game uses a cheat to get Mania difficulty. There has never been a rule against using cheats or passwords to make the game harder.
Perhaps. On the other hand, I don't think there's a rule requiring the use of cheats to set up the hardest difficulty (instead of just choosing the hardest one available without cheats). Of course the rules are not completely unambiguous on this matter.

And this was the most sold console of the time... I have hard time understanding how people find this TAS entertaining given how repetitive the game is. All the levels are almost identical and there are lots of them, and they are all solved in the exact same way...

What is with all this seriousness all of a sudden? I thought this entire website existed for fun. Since when have we become so serious and grumpy? Can someone give an actual argument why this TAS should be declined, other than "it doesn't finish the game"?
Please don't tell me you created an account just to write that.

i myself have lost any faith i had in tasvideos ever becoming a decent, credible site after this. i was already quite put off by the judging process, and the fact that TASes had been rejected for things such as game choice. i thought you guys were moving forward with the tiers, but it seems like you really went nowhere.
Serious business! They changed it, now it sucks! Ruined forever, I tell you, forever!

While the run has already been published. I'd like to point out that it should have been rejected for not choosing the hardest difficulty setting, which can be accessed by using a cheat code at the start of the game.
But aren't cheat codes disallowed?

Shouldn't TASes, like, finish the game or something? "Fastest crash" does not qualify as a sensible goal IMO.

Just because we have a new tiered system doesn't mean we should accept everything. There are still other rules as well as standards of quality and entertainment. Voting no.

Even at the risk of sounding like a broken record, stars were never intended to be a "the absolute best movies" symbol. Rather, it means "recommended movie". Not all of the best movies get a star, nor are all the starred movies necessarily the best. The point is that there's a relatively small selection of movies that showcase what's cool about TASing. Whether it's considered a top TAS is inconsequential (although often goes hand-in-hand).

Why are your bullets invisible?
