Infiltration done! Took a little longer than expected because i had some problems with the last interceptor. But well, i was able to finish it today with a pretty descent result. It's obviously not completely optimized but it's as good as i could get it. M64: http://download.yousendit.com/E6E82680322BF0DF State: http://download.yousendit.com/07A17ABD57CA8F62 End time: 1:34.83(11 seconds below wr) So rescue next, definately one of my favorite levels in this game.

G5 proved much easier than anticipated, mostly due to very little lag which means smoother TAS'ing and less desynchs, so here it is: M64: http://download.yousendit.com/C5FF692749005305 State: http://download.yousendit.com/E32538A7364631EA End Time: 0:46(6 seconds below wr) So Infiltration next(another reset required...Seems they come every other level), I should be able to use some strat better than wr strat there and beat it by 20ish seconds. Btw, thanks again for making vids bkDj!

Sorry for the long delay but Chicago proved ALOT more difficult than expected. Chicago PA 0:27.85(Wr is 0:27.48) M64: http://download.yousendit.com/CF18E39E5CCD3590 Savestate: http://download.yousendit.com/C5D346662220BBE0 The reason why i'm actually .37 behind wr is still unknown. I magicly loose time about halfway through the run even with perfect strafing. My guess is that it's some lag issue. PAL version of the game also lags less on Chicago. Oh well, this was my 3rd redo of the level and i'm NOT going to try to improve further, it's simply not possible to beat the console time. Anyways, for some good news i was able to proceed to G5 without a reset :)

Wyster, I don't mind cutting and pasting different m64 recordings into one file. However, the run won't be accepted on this site unless it's a single m64 that syncs for at least one other person... I think.
Umm i think i'm gonna need a better defined "single m64 that synchs". The M64 now doesn't synch if you play from beginning, it only synchs when using savestates to load beginning of some levels. I'm pretty sure that's not acceptable either? And if so then as i originally thought the run would never get accepted anyway, that's why i thought pasting together runs and stuff could make a better visual experience since it won't really matter in the publication issue anyway?

Don't know about the pasting in videos idea, but I don't know about any better ideas.
Considering bkDj already did it for extraction and that by now some sort of pasting in is required for a full single segment run, the only real diffrence with my idea is to make it look like a real full segment run, and not alot of resets in it that's only making it a little more(less??) legit. But oh well, For Chicago i'm gonna start a new file anyway, resets tend to desynch too much and i hate going through that again.

The wait is over bkDj! m64: http://download.yousendit.com/D56CFFAE276E59B6 savestate: http://download.yousendit.com/491B888943FB339B(required for synch) Final time was....1:16! Beats wr by 16 seconds and Special agent wr by 1 second! Again the game didn't proceed to next level...I am considering screwing reset this time and instead to it like this: i'll redo end of investigation so that i press accept and then end the movie there, then paste in extraction vid after that so it looks like it proceeds like normal. Then just do same thing for Villa/Chicago. Looks imo better than some random resets. So even if it's kind of cheating at least the end result would be a vid very similar to a normal full run.

Thanks for the vid bkDj! Carathorn of the elite was also kind enough to capture all other runs i've done(well extraction too so got two of those now): http://www.thengamer.com/PD/23-Misc/Henrik%20Norgren%20-%20Defection%20-%20PA%20-%20114%20%28TAS%29.wmv http://www.thengamer.com/PD/23-Misc/Henrik%20Norgren%20-%20Extraction%20-%20PA%20-%20107%20%28TAS%29.wmv http://www.thengamer.com/PD/23-Misc/Henrik%20Norgren%20-%20G5%20Building%20-%20A%20-%20034%20%28TAS%29.wmv http://www.thengamer.com/PD/23-Misc/Henrik%20Norgren%20-%20Investigation%20-%20PA%20-%20232%20%28TAS%29.wmv http://www.thengamer.com/PD/23-Misc/Henrik%20Norgren%20-%20Maian%20SOS%20-%20A%20-%20133%20%28TAS%29.wmv All TAS'es done so far are now captured! So Villa coming up next, i will most likely start a new m64 for that since the m64 isnt playbackable from beginning anyways. Prolly won't be done with it for a while but at least desynchs shouldn't be as big problem as it was on Extraction.

About the bad dump thing i dunno(dont have that problem myself) but for the input thing i have experienced that if the keyboard is configured to full turning speed(75-128) the game will register a "down" key as "up". TAS input plugin and lower turning speed should fix it.

edit: but I can watch everything after the savestate though, if you only need that in video form...
Yes! That would be great! I still need the other levels captured but i'm sure someone can do those. I'm a little confused though about how to make those vids, if Def/Invest should be part of a single vid or all levels in diffrent vids? I mean Extraction/Villa/Other working levels could be a nice segment but i suppose it won't make that big a diffrence from every level individually captured. Oh well, I will most likely start up a new M64 for Villa(one that works for everyone =P) unless someone really doesn't want that. OTherwise i guess it's time for route planning.

I knew it would desynch after reset but i dunno why it shuts down after loading state...?(loading from savestate prevents desynch for me) I assume you loaded it after the first visible frame appeared?(the one with the version number and stuff) I guess it's also possible that the savestate thing only works for me? I really dunno how thing work. Worst case scenario is that i'll be forced to make vid myself i guess. Which sucks since i can't do that in Vista. Would have to use either digicam or one of those nice screencapturing programs.

Again, i'm using anti-desynch. So no. Still looking for someone to make vids...Otherwise i'll digicam some vids.

Alright, sorry for double posting but: Extraction Perfect Agent 1:07(!!) 8 seconds below estimate, 25 seconds below wr! By far the most insane and entertaining vid so far in this run(Though there are some upcoming levels like Villa that are gonna be possibly even better). I'll post M64 tommorrow, would be awesome if someone could make vids of the runs i've made so far... Btw, extraction proceeded nicely to Villa without any problems. Though as i mentioned in my earlier post in no longer matters.

Well if it's allowed or not is no longer an issue since i wont be using the reset anyway. I will TAS every level from now on in a seperate M64, Then if those are to be encoded into 21 seperate vids or mixed together to a single file(which i'd prefer) is yet to be determined. I guess publication is no longer possible but at least we'll have a full TAS of this game.

Hm that's too bad, oh well i'm sure someone else can do it. On another note Extraction is totally gonna crush the wr. I was able to use the Secret Agent strat on PA saving a buttload of seconds. I'm expecting a time around 1:15'ish maybe? (Beating the SA wr by 5ish seconds and PA wr by 17 seconds).

I had a similar idea / \, think that'd be best for the video itself but also obviously not publishable in the same way that other movies does it. Anyway, tried some more Extraction today and it seems to be working fine. Tried playback from beginning, save state before reset and after reset. Since it's a fairly simple level(Though i expect it to be the most entertaining tas so far!) i estimate i'll be done with it tommorrow unless i have something better to do. Edit: Okay this reseting thing appareantly causes pretty bad desynchs. I've done the beginning of Extraction after alot of struggle but then i try to playback from beginning and...Desynch immideadly. Since i'm really not in any mood to redo everything and watch through entire run every time i check for desynchs i'm gonna finish extraction like i started and provide a savestate for it(that should work for other poeple than me right??). So well with this i can pretty much screw the reset plan. Instead i will do TAS'es for every individual level, Hopefully someone can encode all of those and either: 1: Mix them all together in a single avi file. 2: Upload TAS'es for individual levels(though i guess this site doesn't do that stuff?) 3: Do with them like most of my TAS'es, make some useless uploads to youtube where poeple can comment them with "OMG HOW DO YOU DO THAT???".

I think that really detracts a lot from the run, don't you think? There has got to be some other way the entire run can be recorded. I remember L4yer had no problems at all in getting to the next level. Also, in order to record the resets, are you using the record reset mupen? (I thought you were using the anti-desynch mupen...) You know the resets offered by that mupen is not accepted by the judges, right?
So well here's my thoughts on this: First of all, L4yer only did one level Defection, and the glitch which prevents going to the next level is as far as i can see random, i did manage to get past defection, but there's no way to determine if a run will proceed or not. Theoreticly i could do investigation over and over again until it works(Which would suck for a whole run) And about the Mupen version, i'm actually using Anti-Desynch. I dunno really why resets work, might as i mentioned before be some unexpected bugs in it, like other players trying to play my m64 or something. About the judging thing, what no one has considered is that this is a pretty unique case, no other game REQUIRES resets to complete the game. The only way we will ever see a full run is by either resets or a better emulation. In other words, judges can't really use general ruling in this case. My general opinion on this run is that the most important thing is to get a run viewable for the masses. Now if it gets published as a normal run or perhaps as some exception case doesn't really matter. No matter where this is leading i will probably continue this run as planned, hopefully a decision about it will be made long before i'm finished.

The reset is recorded, the entire run with resets will be part of a single M64. So second option is correct.

Good news everyone! Reseting the game seems to work just fine now! (i could've sworn i tried this several times without success and it didn't work for Dromiceius either, have no idea why it works now). Anyways, I suspect there might be some problems with this but so far it's worked fine. So i'll at least attempt Extraction and see if i can get that done. Hopefully i'll be able to do all levels this way.

Or using the spirit temple warp song, then hauling ass back across hyrule.
As always i know nothing of OoT and i'm therefor most likely wrong i still gotta ask, How to do you use warp songs without an ocarina? I did read at an earlier page that you could somehow play on a bottle or any item, is that the main idea here? Or can you just reenter the forest after escape to get it?
Here's another thought: Go to Kakiriko, get the cuccoo bottles, enter shadow temple early for hover boots, then use some RBA thing inside the ToT on the adult side in order to get the nocturne of shadow warp song. Or heck, any song.
And now i know that i'm wrong again but still have to ask(how will i ever learn otherwise :P), if you have hoverboots, why do you need a song? I thought you could glitch past DoT with hoverboots only? I apologize for those possibly really stupid questions :P

Wouldn't a glitch run like Genisto's of SMB3 be really awesome for this game? (a little off topic i know) Just saying that the SMB3 run was far more entertaining then either the any% run or the 100% and considering a TAS is made for entertainment i think the glitchfest category should be considered amongst most games, especially OoT. I'm sure there are tons of glitches and ways to entertain the viewer that never gets to be shown in an any% or 100% run? (Like that kokiri sword skip, thats exactly the kind of thing many viewers want to see) Just adding an opinion here =P

hahah yeah, i'm Henrik Norgren and i made that topic. The Defection and Investigation times there are the same as in this run and i didn't mention the bug cause that topic was made mostly for single runs on individual levels and not a full lenght run. And yeah, might as well post some of the recent vids of other runs i've made: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLTBLGLV-gc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFf7Kdza45Q

Edit: Yeah, project is screwed. Curious, Why would a glitch like this occur at all? Shouldn't the game be emulated just like on N64?
