"I think there should be a Category called "Exhibition Mode", or something like that. " That'd be a great idea. You should also dedicate a place for WIP and just crazy things we've done. They don't have to be officially "published" just either WIP or interesting tiny movies just for fun, not competition. I think you should seperate all the "time attack" movies from the "entertainment" movies.
I agree it would be a good idea, though as the moderators seem to be quite busy they may not have time to handle such a new section... Unless we, users of this site, find a place to host WIP and exhibition movies i do not think it would be (for now) a good idea to add this section to the site... Look at the submissions page, it has submissions that have been posted last year (2004)... So, one of us should make a page to host WIPs and things like that and then ask Bisqwit to make a link of this new page on the site... Unless (n°2) that Bisqwit agrees to make such a page (and if he does... good luck to him)

I like this thread, especially since it echoes my thinking about how to approach my (hopefully) upcoming Jurassic Park TAS, which will be my first. I actually have trouble figuring out why anyone would bother to submit something less-than-perfect, especially when they have all the tools to implement perfection. I see emulators as an way to trade real time (as in rerecords) for perfection, and would be glad to spend an hour to perform some trick that saved .2 sec.
I guess that even with tools, perfection is not easy (Copyright Bisqwit)... And nOObs post their unperfect movies to have a feedback on what they did (and because most of the time b/c they're nOObs and so they do not know it's unperfect)... Because an exhibition page does not exist and because it's much easier to find the submission page than a certain topic on the forum, they post it in the submission page... But I encourage newbies to try TA, it's hard but the result is worth being seen :) *Edit* : Note that I do not say that I'm experienced, though i think that I now understand quite well how movies are made...

I've considered that an Advance Wars 2 TA (even using a Walkthrough) would be really hard to do if it has to be frame perfect (or near frame parfect)....... Moreover, the Walkthrough KaitouKid posted is good but the AI of the game is far too random to match the whole walkthrough... Though I still think that if anyone is courageous enough it would make a marvellous run :)

Moreover KaitouKid's ninja O five run has been published very rapidly and is a lot less known than MMZ series... :)

I know that, Mike, and I know the editors may be busy (as there are so many submissions...) Though seeing that people voted for me cheers me up :) Shouldn't the editors reject some old submissions that are still here and do not get many yes votes?? I mean some of Neofix's submissions are good while others are less good and the poor one has submitted them last year (2004)...

I agree with Flagitious run of SNES Zelda 3... It's very well done and very entertaining to watch
I'd like to add to this that regardless if there are movies that are more deserving of a star, it's at least fair that the long version movie gets the star of the short version. It much more suits the prerequisites, mainly because I doubt the occasional viewer would really be interested in a minute-long glitchfest.
I also agree to the fact that if a short one has a star, the long version should have too... Though occasional viewers may also be interested to see that some Well-known games have huge glitches that allow to finish the game in a few minutes... However I guess that it depends of the viewers... When i first came here I was impressed to see how well the games are played... Though seeing some glitches impressed me as well (the Zelda 3 glitch is somehow impressive)... The best movies are those that run through the whole game while using glitches to skip some parts (NES Morimoto's and finalfighter's Megaman 2 run is the best example)... And if a long version gets a star, should a short version gets one too???? (I mean OgreSlayeR's GBA Circle of the Moon run long version got a star, so should his short and glitchful version get a star too???)

And that link is a cancelled submission :) Read the FAQ, find the good emulator and the correct rom and you'll be able to watch it (set up the emulator if needed before watching the movie) uh... I guess i'm redundant with what Shiryuu said o-O :)

Just ask him... he may have given up the idea of finishing his movie, implying that you'd be able to do it...

I would object to doing this as a TAS atleast for the EXE5 part, heres why. -AWFUL alot of back tracking that wouldnt entertain it's audience -The random battles can not be manipulated to none. You will have to have random battles at one point or another (personally tested on EXE). Either that, the patience for it simply wont be worth it for the outcome of the movie with these long games. -Chip Trader can get you anywhere pretty fast with a huge amount of patience. >.<
I manage very well to reduce random battle to 0 in one area... Which version did you play???

I say don't bother with Phantom. He's out of the way, and I don't think the fight would be entertaining enough to make up for lost time.
alright, McBain, Mike, i hear ya, i won't fight him... it was just something that Zurreco suggested... Thx

I think that it would gives approximately the same time.... They have the same sliding speed, though bass can double jump and megaman is much stronger with his charged buster (moreover he may be able to slide under certain things, thus saving little time) Moreover Bass can't move while firing and this is annoying :) So... in fact yes, it would be worth which one can beat it fatser (having written all that text to think the same thing... silly me)

As you could read, 12motion, Gorash has written a program, and he went without any major problems up to 3947... so 500 is really a very low challenge for programmers... And doing it the hard way was fun at the beginning but I'm (and maybe randil is as well) a little bored of 4 4s... Though this could have been a good idea... The problem is that when you write a script, most of the time, even if it takes you time, it goes rapidly beyond the speed of human mind (logically, because that's the aim of program scprits i guess) so, in my opinion, a race would not be a fair thing... A last thing is that to program that kind of script, languages such as PERL or LISP are extremely effective and those script can be written very "easily"... It's even more unfair... Human mind has been, in a way, outpaced by computers :) (I'm good in philosophy... Nah just kidding)
