I have every right to be upset about ONLY 5 seconds. I should be playing this faster for fear that all my work will be obsoleted by someone who finds a way to shave off seconds from my path. Bleh.

How about we just make our own term and leave it at that. Timeattacks will now be referred to as: "Genistos" Discuss...

Update: Currently 302 frames faster than my old movie upon entering the main castle. So I didn't save that much time, but whatever. Tomorrow is official soul test day.

As for Vampire Bat: If the exp helps you fight the Shield boss faster/helps you get to double jump faster, kill him early. If not, save him for later so that you can kill him in a few seconds with Wind+Cross. The test run you did before had a pretty solid route. Just try to find more door glitches like the one in the Skeleton Cave.

But in the other Version 9, I saw "From reset/SRAM". Now I'm confused. Okay, never mind, I see them now. I must have opened the wrong version.
Just FYI, everyone, BagOfMagicFood's last name is Ferneau. I hope that clears some of this up. Nitsuja: Thanks for making this more clear. Actually, thanks for everything you've done with VBA and snes9x.

Actually, we spoke about a good portion of submissions in the queue a few days ago. Also, the only people that can accept movies are people can encode and publish these movies.

Ok, cool. Why is there even a record from reset? Is that just for people who want to record casually and dont want their stuff erased? If so, you IRC chumps can expect a Julius movie sometime after the any% :) Too bad I couldn't submit it here :(

But, one note about the submission: it was recorded from reset with SRAM. Obviously it starts from a new game, but for future submissions (uh, after what you're currently working on I guess) you should start recording from power on ("from start", which is the default) instead of "from reset".
So 'from start' and 'from reset' are basically the same thing, except one just has SRAM? Either 'from start' should be removed and this should be clarified more, or you're going to have a lot of people submitting movies that have SRAM. I just realised that my movies all start from reset and not 'from start', does that mean I'll have to start over now?

Adobe basically controls a huge computer market. Acrobat/Reader is one of the most widely used programs anywhere. Photoshop, ImageReady, and Premiere are considered the most sophisticated picture and video editing software out there. Then, there are like 50 billion other Adobe prodcuts that also seem to make lots of money. It's safe to assume that Adobe's hard work is really paying off. Now that they have shockwave and flash, they really have become a contender for 'best' computer software franchise out there.

Oh, its not really a shortcut, per se. It's just a more efficient path. My mind was elsewhere when I recorded this time around...

Well, although I feel that the Why and How page, along with every other resource around here, seems to super-emphasize the difference between our timeattacks and other sites' speedruns. Sometimes it feels like we are spending too much time beating sense into people about this... Sure, if this statement can further help people understand what is up, we should use it. However, if it takes everything out ther AND this to make them understand, I would weep for that person. and /*-, 'emurape' has been deemed by most speedrunners as a very negative term. No one really uses it, since they know all it does is initiate a big fuss over nothing. To beat this dead horse some more: they don't like the term 'timeattack' because they think it is their term (even though I have yet to see a site use the term timeattack to mean speedrun, aside from morimoto's site). For now, the preferred nomenclature for emulated timeattacks are "tool assisted movies", "emulator movies", or "quarkers". I, for one, don't like 'quarkers' (used by the m2k2 people) because it sounds almost belittling.

Just entered the main castle and passed the first White Dragon. I'm currently 289 frames faster than my old movie. However, I totally forgot to take a shortcut-jump at one point in the ascention of the castle, so I should be able to save maybe 30-40 more frames. Too bad that means I'll have to redo the whole friggin staircase, which is horrid to optimise. I will place the updated movie HERE once the revisions are made.

Well, there isn't really any other way to put it. If the movie is obviously flawed and the author has admitted that he could improve it (and he is, apparently), there is no reason for it to be in the queue still.

I don't understand why this hasn't been accepted yet. It plays the game effectively enough and sets a good record for a non-time attacked movie. Voting yes.

Well, I assume I might as well vote here. I am voting yes, but with all this talk about damage statistics the bird fight is improveable. You are able to use the magic cap on the bird. When it dives in from either side, jumping to that side of the screen will give you enough slide time to stay on the platforms. This also lets you do a few full charge shots per egg drop, but you'll have to worry about dealing with bird minions and whatnot. Voting yes, simply because your time kicked my ass, but I still think you should work on the bird fight.

Here is an update. Just defeated Creaking Skull. Current frame count is 5155 at the final blow to CS, which is good compared to the frame count of 5332 in my last version. Since I am working a Skeleton Officer into my path, I was allowed to skip tossing out a spear at some bats early on. This gave me enough leeway to toss one out in the skeleton corridor, which let me slide at full speed in here. Everything is as optimal as I could make it. Current frame/record ratio: 8.31

Two questions: 1) Was the 1-up at the end of the bonus stage worth grabbing? 2) Do the cabinets\trashcans/etc have defined drops, or could you, say, randomise running shoes out of them all the time? The gameplay itself looks great. I dig how the characters work together to make faster routes, and the paths themselves seem pretty direct. I'll admit that I don't know the maps that well, so I can't really say whether or not the paths are improvable. Good work so far. There are only how many more levels left?

With one midterm out of the way, I decided to get a start on the movie again. I don't know how, but i am currently 111 frames faster than my old movie after having just equipped the Baselard. I don't see how this is, since the old movie played fine without lag reduction and it seemed to be frame specific. Oh well... I should be at the Creaking Skull by tonight, since I did my tests with Gravekeeper.

Midterms are a distraction. I will be getting this run through Creaking Skull by the end of the week GUARANTEED. If I can't get Skeleton Knight by saturday night (PST), I will give up on Demon's Crest in order to give Aria more attention.

It was 60 frames faster. I tested it. Using the glitch required opening the menu twice, then opening it twice more once the convo with Hugh started.

Well... what IS DBZ if it isn't just random fighting and useless dialogue? I have seen all of DB and DBZ and about 10-30 episodes of DBGT (enough to make me not want to see the rest), and I firmly stand with my opinion that DBZ is just taking the idea of people with cool powers and wrapping it around some story that only serves to give the writers and animators more and more chances to show off their ideas. I really want you to tell me I'm wrong here. The story is insanely lacking. There isn't much logic behind a lot of the choices made in the story, but they simply had to have some random plot twists to totally toss everyone off. Their sad attempts at suspense equate to panning over a wide still shot (WITH MOVING GRASS ANIMATION!!!!!!!!!) or making a '1 day voyage' span over 15 episodes. How is it that Goku takes like 10+ episodes to get from King Kai's planet to Earth in order to stop Vegetta whereas it only takes him like 8 episodes to travel from Earth to Namek? I'll tell you why: the writers couldn't think of a way to add any kind of emotion or whatnot without forcing at least 2 character to get the prune juice removed from their bodies by 'the bad guys'. Also, they save lots of money on animation when all they show for long periods of time is a silent staring contest between the valiant hero and the embodiement of anger. That, or the recycled shots of someone powering up for 5 minutes straight while other characters can only stare and quiver in shock and awe. How on Earth did they get away with perpetuating the same situations with different settings for a whole series? Allow me to summarize the whole plot of the whole series (granted, I may forget a few things here and there, but oh well): -There is an evil Saiyan named Raditz that is here to kill Goku. Only by giving their all can Goku and Piccolo stop Raditz using Piccolo's new technique, but at the cost of Goku's life. -Raditz's death alerts two new super threats, so everyone begins to train. A lot. only by giving their all can Earth's greatest warriors fend off these viscious men until Goku can return (from death) and defeat both men with his new technique, but at the cost of many lives and lots of pain for all good guys, namely Piccolo. -Piccolo's death destroys the d-balls on Earth, so everyone has to travel to Namek in order to get them. Goku will follow soon after for healing reasons. Once there, a new threat arises, and only by giving their all can a tiny group of good guys fend off the Ginyu Force until Goku can arrive and defeat them with his new technique, but at the cost of Dende. -The defeat of the Ginyu alerts a new sinister force, and only by giving their all can an even smaller group of warriors fend off Frieza until Goku can catch up and defeat the android with a new technique, but at the cost of what seems like Goku's life. -Frieza returns to Earth to start trouble but is defeated by a new fighter, Trunks, FROM THE FUTURE!!! -Goku returns to Earth and a new threat arises; some random ass androids. Lots of fighting, no one really wins, lots of extra training. -Cell shows up, and only after training A LOT and giving their all can a small group of warriors take turns fighting him. Eventually, Goku uses his new techniques to hurt Cell a lot, but then Goku dies (Why? No one knows. The guy can teleport in a matter of seconds, but instead he decides to chill out with a self-destructing dude for like 5 minutes while babbling about how cool his son is. He could've shot back to Earth with King Kai and that would've been that, but no, we need plot twists and emotion!) -Cell comes back, and people gasp a lot. Only by using his new technique can Gohan defeat Cell. -A bunch of crap about some fighters trying to save the world from a menace known as Buu, lots of useless drama at the hands of Vegetta, 'hopeless fighting', eventually Goku and Vegetta use a new technique to defeat Buu. -Shit rolls downhill from here. In summation, the plot sucks. They tried to make some sort of story based loosely on fighting and... uhh... training? DBZ is over rated, and just because most people agree with that doesn't mean they jump on band wagons. Learn to be more open minded. And FLCL tends to make more sense than DBZ sometimes... ZING

I don't care for it. The idea was novel before it was released on Toonami. This is the general break down of DBZ/DBGT: Goku:"I am super strong! There are no enemies here so we can live in peace!" Frieza/Cell/Whatever:"I am super STRONGER! I will destroy everyone because I am inherently evil and my power level is 50 billion!" Goku:"ARGH! HOW CAN THIS BE!?! I will train for a long time and become stronger!" *Fight ensues, Goku wins* Goku:"I am once again the strongest! The world is safe again." Repeat, ad nauseum, with a few random deaths and rebirths and whatnot. I think the writers wrote the first 30 episodes and then decided to copy/paste with new names, moves, and locations.
