Well, this seems competently played and the graphics are pleasant. If it was on the order of 10 minutes long I think it might have a shot at publication. As it stands, I couldn't even get halfway through with turbo (I abstained from voting by the way). Even though some stages look different, there's really no variety: you can shoot stuff really accurately in frame advance. In a perfect world where we could have a movie for every game this would be an nice addition; good Gruefood Delight material :)
Hope to see more TAS's from you!

So I gave this a try ... and wow, I actually made something that works! Thanks. I added one thing to the instructions: you should pause the emulator before loading the movie file (before it just implied as much by saying you should unpause after starting to record avi).
I made an encode of Donkey Kong (seemed like a perfect beginner movie) and it ended up the same size as the new publication (well I don't have a logo).
Anyways, thanks Sp00ky and all for the new instructions!
Edit: Here it is, guess I used a higher bitrate or something as it seems less blurry than the published one. Any comments/suggestions appreciated.

I finally got it when it was released for PC, haven't finished it yet though :( Frustratingly, I haven't been able to figure out two of the puzzles in the first world, plus several in the 5th.

Sorry to reply so late to this but... I do see the merit in maintaining a collection of truly mind-blowing movies. I don't, however, think this should be to the exclusion of some of the other entertaining movies that get submitted here.
I think a sort of 'split' might be beneficial: a section of the best movies (an expansion of the 'special star' list, really) and a section for the competent, entertaining-to-some movies. I realize that this is not trivial, but would be good because it would: give more structure to the site; reward very good movies with more exposure; reward more authors of marginal movies, which would in turn increase their desire to make more and hopefully better movies; increase the amount of content on the site and therefore increase the number of interesting movies to each person (though probably lowering the percentage of entertaining movies), while at the same time not diluting the pool of "spectacular" movies (in fact it would actually serve to condense really good movies together).
Sorry for the off topic; this is perhaps not the best place to write it. On topic, I feel that this movie is in the latter group. Competently played, enjoyable especially to those familiar with the game, interesting enough to be enjoyable to some who haven't (myself included), but nothing that's terribly earth-shattering. To be fair, I would say again that at least 50% of the currently published movies also fall clearly into this category.

mortal kombat is a pretty kool guy. eh walks on people's faces and doesn't... ok sorry.
But seriously, if the disco ball move isn't in any of the published tases it should be.

Nice! My only comment is that I think it would be nice to do something clever while entering the elevator code... I was thinking of trying to spell something but I don't think there's enough room. But something other than just entering it left to right top to bottom would reinforce that it's a tas and not just a fast tapping human ;)

I didn't always click on stuff as soon as possible. Route-wise, it may be faster to hit some of the marker switches on the way back to the dock instead of beforehand. Also keep in mind that to "finish" the game there's another whole section to complete :). Might want to wait for Saturn/PSX version to work (though then you have to control the cursor with the d pad -- you can set it pretty fast in the Saturn version at least, but it's still harder to optimize).
I look forward to a faster version!
edit: oh, and my version is 1:23, not 1:13. bloody arithmetic.

I've been excited to see a Myst TAS since I first realized that it was released for TAS-able consoles. Unfortunately the PSX version doesn't run for me, and in the Saturn version the quicktime movies don't play sound for me. So I gave the DS version a shot.
This port is universally panned. The graphics are lousy and too small. It apparently crashes frequently. Stylus control is finicky.
Oh well. I still did a very rough run through in about 1:13, 1 second under the purported PC unassisted record. (Yay?)
This is not frame optimized, nor route optimized (but both are pretty good). Also, it might be advantageous to enable "zip" mode, but from my earlier tests I did not notice any difference...
I stop it at the "traditional" ending... there's an extra age afterwards as in realMyst, but who cares about that :P
Meh, didn't want to spend a lot of time on this :)
Enjoy!

I have something to confess...
I almost never listen to the sound when I'm watching videos here. I'd say at least 90% of the time I mute the sound and listen to other music. The only exceptions are games where either I know and like the music or if I have heard the game is supposed to have good music.
Maybe this is why I have a higher tolerance for boring movies... if it gets tedious for a spell I can listen to the music and still have a good time.
Anyone else in this camp? Am I a bad movie watcher?
