But the site exists, and keeps thriving, because people get interested. How do you keep people interested? Certainly not by making runs increasingly boring.
Are you being hypothetical because of that SGDQ thing that will most likely apply to one game and then would very quickly peter out once the novelty is gone? I mean, shoot, remember when ACE runs appeared once a week? Hardly ruined the site then. This whole topic feels like a major overreaction to Youtube comments, tbh.

Link to video Experimented with a varient of a glitch shown in this video (2m16sec). It IS possible to get out of bounds with the other doors via lots of swapping and time, but even if you manage to get on the first floor the door is locked until you advance the plot, so unfortunately you can't use it to skip the Glacius Challenge. I also went ahead and experimented with a lot of other doors in the game, but it doesn't seem to be possible in any location aside from the GS.

Link to video Yup. Edit: 16:25 end of Day 1. I'll post another WIP once I'm done with Day 2 (here's hoping sub 40 minutes on that)

Good to see someone giving this game a try, might give me a reason to do some RTA runs
Hey, that'd be neat! I guess I'll post a WIP every time I finish a large section or whatever. Edit: Tested the first half or so of the game. The Monster Book of Monster strat I found is applicable on the other ones, just dodge if you see it starting to bite and you're good. Also found some other minor tricks, but nothing significant.

http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/31871847771391610 Figured I might as well give this a shot, but don't expect much. This goes up to the end of the opening train section.Currently about 30 seconds ahead of RTA, most likely from not messing up on Malfoy and minor loading differences. I'll do a quick rundown: -Those brief pauses in gameplay seem to happen on console as well. I guess it's the game loading? Only seems to happen when leaving a cutscene. -No, you can't skip cutscenes. Just like all of the console games. -On the topic of that, a much higher degree of optimization is going to be required for this game compared to SS and CoS. The cutscenes for the most part fuck off and only involve themselves where they make sense, and the gameplay has been massively expanded thanks to the ability to control both Ron and Hermione, routing opportunities thanks to the addition of two separate potion ingredient collections, and more chances to speed up movement and attacks. Detailing how much this game changes compared to CoS is quite difficult, so just compare the RTA WR for GC CoS to the RTA for this and you'll see what I mean. *phew* -The Monster Book of Monsters is triggered when Ron is next to it and Harry is inside the room, so I get a few seconds to just do whatever. Pushing Ron doesn't work because the AI is programmed to do a 'backing up' animation so he'll get out of Harry's way, so I just leave him be. -Figured out a strat to kill this MBoM quickly. Get up close to them and don't let them move anywhere, and they'll become vulnerable faster. Saves about 8 seconds, not sure yet if this is possible with the other ones. -Fastest way to do Phase 1 of the Malfoy fight is to hit Crabbe and Goyle while you're moving towards them, and then angle Harry up-right so he can hit Malfoy as soon as the cutscene ends. As long as you spam Flipendo they'll never hit you. -Dragging Harry is really easy, just dodge some obstacles and wiggle the stick. TAS wiggling saves a good chunk of time. Anyway, besides all that I may have found a form a movement that might speed things up a lot, but I'll need to test it first before I can say with any degree of certainty.

And thus VR may turn out to be a failure. Abysmal game library. No support nor interest from game developers. "Zero studios, zero people." Just like the PS Vita. Do you understand the point I'm trying to make?
Well it has Batman VR, developed by the peeps who made the Arkham series. That's a pretty big studio to have an interest in it. Plus the Vita is pretty much a cult classic at this point. Kind of like the Gamecube.

It looks pretty good. I can see how going through the tile game could get old fast but the results are nice. When the NPCs get in your way in Pravoka is there any way to avoid it?
You can wait outside the town or inside a building to manipulate NPC walk patterns.
TheAxeMan wrote:
You didn't have any trouble in Earth Cave where it can be much worse.
Oh, with those bats? They were a bitch to optimize, since you have to do it before you enter the area, and then have to manipulate any encounters from spawning....
TheAxeMan wrote:
I only played through this version once. Does the experience concentrate when you have dead guys? I wonder if you might be better off leaving one monk dead.
It only really matters in the early game when I need to get Sleepra on a Black Mage. After that it's either a FTK like on Marilith and Tiamet, or getting as many turns as possible to buff/attack, like with Lich, Kraken, or Chaos. Buffs like Temper and Haste and much more powerful to use then dead allies.
TheAxeMan wrote:
Though maybe the other one is useful for manipulation? The dagger hits in some of the later fights look like they lose time though maybe that is a manipulation too and it is hard to tell if it is much faster than a failed run.
Yeah dagger hits outside of the Pirates fight are just to manipulate luck. Outside the first turn it's impossible to manipulate luck unless you do a specific set of commands to do it. For example, the Lich would have wiped my party out if I hadn't done exactly what I did. Dagger hits are like 3-4 frames faster then runs, don't remember the exact time.

I hope someone finishes this.
Honestly if I manage to finish the 5+ projects I have on the backburner I'll probably return to this. Really only the last bit of ship minigames is stopping me from finishing this, elsewise everything is easy.

One thing is a bit unclear to me: If an any% run is accepted to Moons because of high entertainment value, and then later someone makes a boring but faster any% version which obsoletes it, will this new run be (kind of) "demoted" to Vault, or will it remain in Moons?
The new run would be Vault. Ex: [2047] SNES Chrono Trigger "save glitch" by turska & inichi in 03:28.06
Warp wrote:
I'm still not sure why Moons has to be this mix of different categories, rather than a pure "non-any% non-100% runs that are worthy of publication" category, with Vault being for all any% and 100% runs.
That would be messy and weird.
Warp wrote:
(I would still like to see Vault being lifted from its "garbage dump" status to a place of glory: Only the very best runs get the honor of being published there. The rest get either rejected because of being sub-optimal, or just dumped to Moons because people found it entertaining enough to publish.
???? That would just flip flop the problem to Moons being the garbage dump instead of Vault.
Warp wrote:
Getting your run to Vault should be badge of honor, for being the best, for achieving the top, the world record for that game. It should not feel like infamy and shame.)
True for the most part, but what if you TAS like Where's Waldo or something and it takes you 15 minutes? Like, should you be proud of that?

Wow, fantastic work! This is probably the most visual lua script I've ever seen. In terms of porting this over, doesn't 007: The World is Not Enough run on the same engine as Goldeneye?

Wow, the run is looking fantastic so far! Those BBBJs are insane. Can't imagine what it'll be like once you get the CB. A question, what's up with the screen cutting to black occasionally? Is that just a problem with dumping the game in general?
