Welcome to TASVideos! Though I voted no because it's not optimal (the fact that the last lap is slower than the second is a good indication of that), I think this run has a lot of potential, so keep at it. TASsing is all about practice, and learning how to save frames on every turn, every straightaway. Try again, and I look forward to your next submission.

I've searched and searched, but haven't found any without a 'cracked' screen. Even archive.org has got it. I read that it had to be cracked in order to copy it off the original floppy, so I don't think it's possible to get an original copy now. However, the last thing I want to do is put any more time into the TAS if it's just going to be rejected.

Hi all, I have a TAS that I've been working off and on for a while, and I just realized that there's a screen at the front that may prevent it from being accepted. Unfortunately, I'm not able to find an uncracked version of the game. If I finish this TAS, will this be acceptable on TASvideos?

Hi all, I'm running into two problems with JPC-rr. The first is with getting Space Quest 6 to run. I'm able to get to the command line and run the executable, but then it just sits there running, but not showing anything. My guess is that it's running the game, but for some reason the video isn't showing up. The second issue involves changing the files in floppy.img. Specifically, I want to update autoexec.bat to add a parameter to the CTMouse call to make the mouse run at a higher resolution. This is to save me from having to unload CTMouse (which is called parameterless in autoexec.bat) and load it again, which is just boring setup time. How can I open floppy.img so that I can update autoexec.bat? Thanks in advance!

Very nice. I loved the commentary too. A couple things: First, is it possible to kill Ganon any closer to the door, so it takes less time to leave the room? Second, I was surprised there only one stairs warp and no whistle warps, and that it was faster just to walk most places.
Thanks! Ganon isn't killed closer to the door b/c every time he's damaged he reappears (invisible) at either the bottom-left or bottom-right. While he's invisible, he doesn't teleport, he walks around at 1px/frame -- slower than Link walks -- making it faster to just kill him as quickly as possible at the bottom and walk to the door. It's fastest to have him bottom-left for the final blow, so you can zig-zag up-right to the door. The screen-scroll glitch makes a big difference in decreasing the value of using the Whistle or Power Bracelet to travel in the Overworld. For instance, IIRC to get from L7 to L8 I tested blowing the whistle once to get to L2 and walking the rest of the way to L8. Nope -- with the needed item swaps, it was faster just to walk.
Thanks for the explanations, Lord Tom, and great work!

Trying to add my info the forums, regardless of how dead they may appear. I'm sure someone will TAS this fantastic game soon.
I just want to put here how glad I am that you resurrected this thread. If you hadn't, the Quest for Glory 1 TAS would not exist right now. Maybe this can encourage others to resurrect old threads for games they're interested in. Who knows what will come of it!

That was a lot of fun to watch. I especially like what you did in the waiting time, synchronizing the players' movements, or having them fight each other. Also, having Tyris play around with the two minions at the end was neat to watch. Definite yes vote from me.

Hey, mrprmiller, for a lark I decided to try fighting Fred the Troll with our beginner Magic User. Suffice it to say, it didn't go well. Even if you dodge his swings, you still get hurt, and three hits is enough to kill. So, yep, he's can't be killed by our hero, even in a TAS.

How would it work to run the first four while importing save files?
As far as I know, a marathon run (running all four in one TAS) would be simple. Start off with all four games in the disk image in separate folders. Once one game is complete, save the endgame file, exit, change directories, and start the next game. The file system will have your saved game to continue off of. If just doing individual game TASses using previous save states, as blahmoomoo suggested, you'd have to do them in order, with each one being the verification movie for the next. I'm not sure how you'd extract the save game file, however, as it's only actually stored in memory.

One question would be: how would timing work? Would beating the game be the moment that time stops or would the moment that the clear character file is created be the stopping point?
That's a good question. If just doing individual runs, it would likely be to the last input, which would be the creation of the saved game.

I can safely confirm it syncs on JPC-RR 11.8 RC2 (which supports the mouse).
What kind of mouse support has been implemented? I can't find any release notes or instructions on the improvements.

Have you considered doing the DOS version of Prince of Persia?
I never played Prince of Persia. Is it basically the same as the NES Version, or is it different in some way?

As mentioned in the submission comments, we have a request for you! Please tell us if you'd be interested in seeing a Quest for Glory II TAS. It will be much longer than this one, likely running 10-15 minutes. I want to make sure there's sufficient interest in a TAS of that game before investing the time and energy to do it. Also, if there's anyone else who is interested in doing a QFG TAS (#2 or otherwise), feel free to do it! I don't have much time for TASsing, and mrprmiller and I would love to see these all TASsed. Both of us would be happy to lend you a hand at it, so just get in touch with us! And you should also know that you'd receive a bounty from mrprmiller for making the TAS!

Any chance that Jukspa's run could make it onto the site? :-D
Seconded!! Can we make Portal an authorized TAS engine, allowed to run only one game: Portal?

It was short and enjoyable. I really think this is a game where ending input early adds to the entertainment value. Since there's a lot of waiting at the end of levels 1 and 2, it makes me wonder if you could sacrifice some of your speed for some luck manipulation that would get the computer to make worse moves. Yes vote, though I could see this one making it to the vault.

Aside from the other nominations, this should seriously be considered for AGDQ 2017.

There are 11 Life-2 Cancels in the run, and it takes 29 frames each time, for a total of 319 frames. I assume that you are asking why not accept it the first time, since accepting a level-up takes only 184 frames. The answer is that thereafter you would still have to do Life-3 Cancels every time you got to 150 experience.
That makes sense. Thanks for the explanation!

Excellent run! Well done! I do have one question: Why do you keep skipping the 50 experience upgrade? It seems it takes a few frames each time to show the upgrade menu and for you to select to skip it.

Nice run. Definite yes vote. One question: What happens when both players finish the bonus stage with the same score? Do they both get the bonus "winner" points?

So... Much... Awesome!! From the random mogs everywhere to the psychedelic chocobo background, and of course the muddled invalid weapon exact frame attack manipulated five minutes early to trigger arbitrary code. This deserves a star and then-some.

Great run! When I read about the mouse movement, I was wondering if you had to upgrade JPC-RR to allow for it. I really hope Ilari considers putting the upgrades into the next release.

Loved the commentary, but voting no for a lack of discussions about Toronto's sports teams. jk ;)

It was a 'Meh' all the way until the last fight when you ended input early. Seeing Heihachi continuously failing to hit a helpless Nina, and then to have her stand up and him yell in defeat when time ended was hilarious. Yes vote!

Glad you enjoyed the commentary! All-bosses will have audio commentary instead, since there's much more to talk about. (And I'm pretty proud of how the Raptors did despite the loss. Still, at least we have the Blue Jays and Marlies - and, I dunno, the Toronto Rock maybe?)
Audio commentary?!? That's going to be awesome! (And I had to laugh how the Leafs weren't in your list of teams. Even the Rock got a mention over them.)

Hey theenglishman, thanks a lot for the commentary. I absolutely loved it. One small request for your next one: Would you leave the commentary on the screen a bit longer? I was watching the backtracking parts of the second disc at 2x speed, and the commentary would flash up on the screen and then disappear too quickly to read it all. Thanks and keep up the great work. (And sorry about the Raps' loss. Honestly, they did a great job just winning two off the Cavs. Go Marlies!!)
